I guarantee you if we had a young Steve Yzerman type on our team that got lit up by a hit, he would not be telling Yzerman to go after him. If he thought a fight was necessary, he woould not expect Yzerman to do it. Hockey has never been like that, why would a teenager be expected to fight a 30 year old?
-
Hudler will never be a valuable asset to the wings at that cap hit for what he brings. In playoffs regardless of salary he really wont be that valuable. He is a 4th liner when it matters with a nearly 3 million dollar cap hit
-
Hudler also played on a stacked powerplay because he was actually good back then. Hudler is not needed on the point to make this power play click, is he getting points? Ya but he is supposed to get some. But there are guys that would be much more valuable to this team come playoffs. And as a wings fan you know everyone is judged on their playoff performances, get real. Hudler is hopefully going to just build up enough trade value to get him shipped outta here. Get rid of his cap hit for a one dimensional, offensive forward who doesn't produce that much offense.

Yzerman never had to stick up for himself, he got in his fair share of fights, but Yzerman always had someone jumping in for him. I dont remember Yzerman ever getting lit up with a clean hit really off the top of my head, he was able to avoid a lot of contact. I can think of one time where Mac jumped someone after a hit on Yzerman almost Bertuzzi like, oh and Probert getting ahold of Mcguire and suckering him. The wings never made Yzerman fight his own battles, which is how it should be with a young star in the league. Its no secret why they drafted Probert and Grimson in Yzermans draft year

No I dont really like the whole dog pile up thing either but I'm just saying you should not expect it to be a 19 year old superstar to be the one fighting if there is one. If theres gonna be a fight, it wont be the 19 year nor should it be. Not saying the Oilers did the right thing but I think it is stupid to expect Hall to fight anyone who lays him out when he is 19 and has a fairly tough team around him

22 points in 31 games in GR this season for Cory. I've watched quite a few games and he does pretty well on the PK and defensively as well. Should be interesting what happens to him next year
-
17 goals and 21 assists in 38 games played so far. 64 pims as well and 6 fights on the season. He isn't taking as many PIMs because he is thriving in a scoring role. I can't wait to see what he has in GR next year
-
11 goals and 9 assists in 22 games, Aubry is quietly putting together a pretty good season here. I also noticed on hockeydb he is listed at 202 pounds now so he must be filling out a bit. I can't comment on his actual play but he is putting up numbers. I'm sure he is playing defensively first as well and hopefully still hitting consistently
-
I think thats stupid. What wings fan would want a 19 year old Yzerman being the one to have to stick up for himself? No one in their right mind, neither did management so they got him Probert. I understand not liking the fights after clean hits (even though it is often hard to determine whats clean and what isn't, the players dont get to watch youtube 3 times to decide.. they have 5 seconds to react) but its an age old thing where if theres gonna be a fight, a 19 year old star is not the one who should have to do it.

Up until a couple years ago (when Stamkos left) I had season tickets to the Sarnia Sting. It is great being able to see all these young guys play. I remember watching the sting play a playoff series against Kindl and the Rangers and trying to keep an eye on a lot of wings prospects. I have a close buddy playing on the Sting right now actually so its even more interesting for me to watch. They have a really good, young team actually with potential to make a deep run next year or the year after if their top guys are still around. Yakupov and Galchenyuk are ranked in the top 5 for their draft year, if they both dont make the jump to the show I could see the Sting winning a mem cup. I follow the knights closely as well, I have a former linemate of mine from 2 years ago playing on the team, he should be a 4th round pick or so in this years draft so I'm keeping an eye on him as well.

Haha its funny how he treats it like a real hockey interview and keeps a straight face and serious composure the whole time. Bert is a real hockey player, especially back in his Vancouver days. You see a lot of interviews where he's got a big lipper in too, I just find it hilarious

I would hardly call Hudler a PP specialist, Homer is a specialist. He can put up 25 goals a year basically on the PP. Hudler is a one dimensional player who can play the PP but do you really think Hudler looks like anything special out there? Homer is a huge component of our PP but if the wings were to put Stuart or even Ericcson back there I really doubt it would make much difference. Hudler is on the PP to get him going and get some points, not because he is amazing on the point. Is Jason Williams a PP specialist too, or just a guy who can play the PP. When Hudler was a 60 point guy, playing much better hockey then this, he was on the 4th line in playoffs. For a guy who contributes so many points you would think he would be getting some quality minutes, but no he doesn't because he doesn't have the right game for playoffs. Also in 08, the wings had a much more conventional third line of Drake Draper Maltby. They were out on the ice more because they play a playoff style. We won the cup in the end so its hard to argue that philosophy.
-
At least he is producing now but watching the games is pathetic. His lack of defensive competence and strength is baffling. I really hope he continues to put up points, but only to increase his trade value. He was a 4th liner the last 2 playoffs (he might've even been scratched in 08), and that was for good reason. His game does not translate to the playoffs when it gets rough. Get someone who can contribute when it matters most and use Hudler as a piece in a trade

Mindfly sure would be useful.... And I really think Larsons comments are blown way overboard. If he's a solid tendy, they wont care about some comments said in Sweden
-
Good suspension for what he did. That being said I would love Brown on this team. Hes so fast for a scrapper and can kill penalties really, really well. He would be way better then Miller here and would help the team just as much
-
I dont think this call up should be Tatar We know the wings aren't going to keep him up full time next year, so now they need to check out some other guys. Emmerton is out of options next year, Owens has been playing great hockey in Grand Rapids, Iflip is putting up points (but does not impress me on the defensive side of the puck, perimeter guy really) and Tardif like Owens would be good to throw on the 4th line, provide energy and maybe even kill a penalty if he has too. Tatar played well when he was up though so I guess calling him up wouldn't be horrible
-
She probably beat him up too
-
No it doesn't and if I were Eaves I wouldn't be leaving. If he puts up 20 goals I could see a bottom end team offering him a good chunk of cash playing in the top 6, he would go there and probably not do as well because he isn't given a role to thrive in. He bounced around the league, found himself a good home in Detroit, and in a smaller role he is really doing well. After his first few seasons he should probably stick around here for one more contract and establish himself a bit more. Then if he wants his pay day then I would go for it if I were in his shoes

No like I said we're not stupid. There are plenty of posters on here who maybe dont want a fighter but would be okay with adding a guy like Konopka for example. Or having a tough guy. Guys like Titanium or Konnan for example. You like I said, come across as the biggest anti fighter on this board and to try and make me find posts to prove it is ridiculous. everyone here knows it, I'm not wasting my time digging through your old posts. Why don't you find a post you've made in an enforcer thread that makes it seem like youre open to the idea and then I'll waste my time finding some where you made it clear youre against them.
-
That you dont want the wings to have an enforcer or that they are pretty much useless? Lets give some Downey threads a look and we'll a nice hat getting munched on. Seriously most of us have been posting here long enough to know how you feel about enforcers, give it a rest. We aren't dumb. Its fine if thats your opinion but when its being talked about you dont have to all of a sudden act like youre being crucified for being against fighters. YOU MAKE POSTS LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME THAT MAKE YOU SEEM ANTI-FIGHTER. I dont even want a goon on this team like some on here but come on man, everyone who can read knows your opinion on this subject Yeah he can be a physical guy even when he isn't agitating. He would add some nice size to our bottom 6 at about 6'2 2oo pounds I believe
-
I wouldn't mind this at all. I'm sure we would lose a lot of fans on here though because the wings would have a guy that reaks of class and honour lol. I even plus 1'ed this for giving me such a good laugh. That gold star schtick didn't work out so now youre becoming a comedian lol?

The only ones on your list that will probably be ther will be Nyquist, Callahan, Andersson and Tatar. Jarnkrok will not be there, neither will Pulu or Alqvist. Iflip will probably be in the NHL (no room for him so probably with another team) or in Finland I would think. People are starting to count out Ferraro, hes an interesting prospect to me and will be a fun player to watch. Basically a gritty guy with hands (hands that will fight too ) and has unreal speed to burn. Him and Helm could end up looking great by eachother. I've been reading that hes being a good leader and giving effort he just isn't getting points. He has speed, hands and a snipers shot, he has the tools to be a very solid third line/second line tweener still. I'm obviously most interested in seeing Callahan next year. Watching him light it up and beat people up will be nice.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=67005 Kind of a surprise but he deserves it and I don't think it is a stretch at all. I'm liking the looks of Duncan Siemens, he's my draft day want right now but theres still a lot of time before the draft and I doubt he'll fall to us

This is true, but I often think we have way too high expectations for first round north americans. We really havent had that bad of luck. Smith looks great, Sheahan is too early to tell and Mccollum doesn't look great but remember how Howard looked at first? Smith is probably our best prospect right now, Sheahan is looking to be solid as of late and almost made the world juniors and Mccollum is a ? Oh and Kindl is an NHL player at least, hard to say how he'll end up Ferraro is a NA pick, but he was second round, Emmerton is looking alright but he was a second as well. Helm and Abby turned out great so far. I think the myth that the wings draft poorly north american isn't as bad as people make it seem. Also, isn't Mursak a NA scouting staff pick, he played OHL so I would think that he is Whats this you say Titanium?!?!?!?! Did I miss something here?!?!
-
Haha youre always bustin my balls on this titanium but I actually do follow them all. I can tell you loads about Callahan, and pretty much nothing about Oslund or Cayer because they are impossible to find info on. Thats why I'm always asking! Coetzee has a good set of skills but is kind of small and gets out muscled when I watch GR games, Pare isn't very quick but has a nose for the net from what I've seen and good hands around the net. Neither are big guys. Did I pass the test lol? And I jsut take it upon myself to be the guy who tries to follow the grittier prospects (Sheahan included) and let guys like you follow the highly touted guys like Pulu and Ironhook Also just wanna point out, number 157 on that list is a former linemate of mine, I would love to see him get drafted by the wings
