It would be awesome if Callahan could develop into a top 6 guy. He is producing some points for sure but I think he is more likely to be a third line guy. If he was good enough to be a top 6er in the N, wouldn't you think he would've been utilized more in the world juniors. He has just been going up and up though since he came to the WHL and maybe with a year in the AHL he can develop a scoring touch in the pro game. Haha Drake I let guys like you get me all the info on the exciting prospects like Pulkkinen and Jarnkrok. Believe it or not I regularly do hockeydb searches on those guys to see them tearing it up but they have enough followers on here that I dont need to hype them. Callahan however I follow pretty closely because hes a rare item in the wings system, and well I always have to defend Sheahan because people are sos quick to call him a bust already

So what does everyone think about Ferraro? He hasn't been scoring but he is a captain, still is blazing fast, can throw some hits and will fight from time to time and does okay for himself. Everett fans are also happy with the effort he puts in on both ends of the ice, just the points aren't coming. He was a second round pick so if he ends up an okay third liner or a 4th line energy player with blazing speed and is fairly physical would we be upset about this pick? He looks like he might become another Helm type without the PKing but will drop the gloves from time to time. Callahan, Ferraro and someone else (Cayer maybe?) could be a pretty effective 4th line. Speed, toughness and a little bit of scoring.

Youre pro skill but at least youre one of the few that recognize guys like Engelland are solid players. If Bring back the bruise bros, GMR, UK or myself to name a few suggested Engelland as good as Salei people here would be all up in arms saying we overvalue fighters and that he is actually useless. I can't speak for everyone considered an enforcer slappy, but I am in the same boat as you. I dont want some meathead playing 5 minutes a game. I want guys like Dorsett added on the 4th line in place of Miller. Or a grittier guy added in place of Hudler. Fighters are called useless but apparent "skilled" guys like Williams or Hudler always seem to be in this line up. Adding a young guy could solve this problem for years. Matt Martin or Dorsett or Clarkson are all guys that could be acquired, help this team in more ways then these skilled guys seem to be signed every year. These guys would be better then someone like Miller too and Draper as well.

Me too. Especially because the one red wing coach Mike Babcock has wanted a guy like that since he has been here and always talks about the worth of guys like that. So can you please explain why you think Miller is a better player then Prust, Konopka, or Thornton? You really seemed to duck that question in your post

Watching this stuff is great. Imagine how great if the wings had a show like 24/7 or oil change for the oilers where you get to see every little thing. I hope they get a show like that soon

If the point of hockey is to score more goals then why not get rid of Miller for a guy like Prust? Prust is an enforcer and everyone calls fighters useless here. So why then does everyone here think we should have Miller over Konopka, Prust or Thornton?

Canadians are called sore winners on here all the time and classless when it comes to hockey. He was making a point that attacking a country for a hockey loss is stupid

Yeah youre right. Drew Millers 6 points, -1, 8 minutes on the ice per game and next to no physicality would really help this team more then Zenon Konopka's 8 minutes on ice per game, 2 minutes on the PK, 5 points, big hits, fights and 59% on face offs. Millers stats are also way better then Prust's 12 minutes on the ice per game, 1 and a half minutes on the PK, 15 points and fighting. Wow look at that Konopka who led the league in fighting majors last year has pretty much the same stats as Miller while being a way bigger hitter, a very good fighter and just overall more physical. Prust has pretty much better stats in every facet of the game and his primary role is an enforcer. Thats not to mention guys like Clarkson who is clearly better, Chris Neil, or defenseman like Carkner or Engelland who are just as good as Ruslan Salei, if not better. Maybe people should start looking at facts instead of assuming all enforcers cant play hockey or skate. Its called watching hockey, I guess some people don't watch they just read the boxscore see a fight and assume the guy isn't good at hockey. Hwy am I saying hwat, hwat hway?

No I follow all the prospects but the ones who are meatheads I follow a little more closely haha No but actually I do keep up with the prospects quite a bit. I watch a lot of Griffins games so I have a good grasp on all those prospects there at least. And speaking of meatheads, this article says Nicastro is a finesse player while Nill says he might be our most physical prospect. Come on HF I could write this just as good as you

This is why I like Konnan. I know he is an American and I am canadian and we will always disagree on that. But in a game that the canadians just simply outplayed the states hes not out here like hankthatank calling calling Canadians classless winners. I get so sick of hearing that s***. Sweden is in trouble now. A s***ty missed icing call has put them down 2-0. I'm also kind of in teh same boat as you. I'm not a fan of Cameron so if they lose I will not be as crushed as usual especially because they cut the kid that had the best camp. I do however want them to win, I am just not following it as closely as usual

I really doubt thats it, the tournament is popular because Canada is crazy about hockey. Isn't it weird that tomorrow is the States first sell out all tourney because theyre playing Canada and something like two thirds of all tickets went to Canadians? That has nothing to do with Canadian teams not winning cups, Leafs fans dont care if the Habs win cups in fact they would rather that not happen. Not to mention since 93 there has been more Canadians then any other country hoist the cup, Canadians love hockey plain and simple.

Was that ever proven? It was more of a he said she said situation I thought. Either way, they are comparing styles and all teh guys listed, Maltby, Cooke, Avery and Carcillo to an extent all play the game the same way. Carcillo is probably the more respectable out of all of them and the toughest. Thats why I want Callahan to end up the most like him. Carcillo is also the toughest fighter out of that group, and Callahan rarely loses a fight.. It'll be interesting to see how he does in the NHL against men

Actual Ice Hockey as we know it is Canadian. There have been plenty of ball and stick games played over the course of time, there is evidence in egypt of ball and stick games, as well as in the UK they played a similar game called Banty. British soldiers did play it but did not invent it. I just did a project this semester at University about it so thats why I really see it as Canadian. To say anything different is misinformed really. The British had games very similar to it but Hockey is Canadian. Saying Basketball is Canadian is not nearly the same as saying hockey is British. A Canadian that studied in Canada invented basketball, so it is not wrong to say it is Canadian. I would say its a little bit of both but thats just me.

Because Howard is in a little slump and he is the future goalie of the organization. Ozzie wont be our guy going into playoffs and likely wont even be on the team next year. I don't know why so many people think he should start as much as Howard. I'll be at this game, looking forward to seeing Tatar and Mursak live in action. I hope the wings win.

Meh Maltby in his prime was pretty close to these guys anyways. If Cooke didn't have as many attempts to end people's careers and fought more he would be great for Detroit (Callahan himself says he plays like Cooke but fights more). If you look at Averys style of play he is very similar to Maltby. It is what Avery does in the media etc that makes him such a douchebag. Maltby in his prime was a pretty big agitator and if he wasn't a wing we probably wouldn't like him that much. I trust Nill when he compares him to Carcillo and Cooke which is fine with me. If Callahan becomes like Cooke that fights more and isn't as much of a cheapshot artist I'm happy. We have a guy who can fight, score 15 goals and agitate. If he becomes like Carcillo I'll be pretty happy as well

Basketball was invented by a Canadian (Naismith) in order to give athletes something to stay in shape during the winter. Naismith studied at Mcgill but the game was first played in America. I personally wouldn't say its American or Canadian but it is more American I guess. And Eva get informed bud, hockey is not British at all regardless of how you swing it. Hockey is Canadian through and through nice try though.

Depends on what you call a bust too I think. A lot of posters here were expecting him to be a 40 goal scorer in the NHL and seem to forget he was a second round pick. He hasn't been scoring goals but he is still blazing fast, a gritty player and he will drop the gloves. He could still end up a very solid third liner who scores 15, provides a lot of energy and is gritty. For a second round pick that isn't a bust to me at all. He could easily become another Darren Helm which is fine with me, they have similar styles of play I've only got to catch the one USA game Callahan didn't play in so can some of you guys comment on how hes doing out there? Is he quick, any big hits, was it a nice goal etc...

I was under the impression they weren't allowed to call anyone up after the tourney starts, I'm not positive though
