Helm is definitely the fastest on the team and the only prospects that are close are Mursak, Owens and Ferraro. Ferraro won the top prospects game fastest skater competition in his draft year and his game is completely built around speed. Thats why the knee injuriy hurt his production so much last season.

You do realize that Detroit averaged within a few decimal places the same shots per game as Toronto last season, Toronto must be a good puck possession team too then. People are talking about how Lilja is going to be missed so much but we actually improved at his position if Salei stays healthy. You dont need to overrate Lilja either. He was an average number 6 defenseman

Youre going to preach at me about using logic and then use last season where Salei played 14 games and Lilja played 20 as your measuring stick? Well Salei had 1 less blocked shot then Lilja in 14 games compared to Liljas 20. Their hits work out to 1.5 per game and 1.9 per game, hardly a difference at all. Lilja had more giveaways and they had the same number of takeaways in 6 less games for Salei. Now thats all using an extremely small sample size but still, Salei has the stats advantage in those 20 games. Hows that for logic

The only real advantage he has had on Salei is plus minus which is obviously going to be higher becaus of the difference in the teams, Salei was only -4 on a team whose top 6 defenseman were -10, -16,-12,-19, and -21. Other then that Salei has less give aways, higher take aways, hits are close, but Salei is known for being a more punishing hitter. A healthy Salei is better then Lilja even if Lilja is a good #5 defenseman. A healthy Salei is a number 4 guy

In 08-09 Salei had 143 blocked shots in 70 games, Lilja 92 in 60 games. Lilja averaged 1.5 blocks a game, Salie averaged 2 blocked shots per game. Salie had 36 give aways, Lilja had 29 in 10 less games with fewer minutes played. Lilja isn't better in any stats category really at all, and this was all before his brain got scrambled

My thoughts. Owens has a real s*** at making this team as a 4th liner in the future. Speed and toughness, he's like a Helm that fights. Andderson is a big boy and he could still add some weight to his frame and become a real third line anchor Tatar is the real deal Hudler looks much faster now then last time he was here, the difference seems pretty big too Smith is bigger then I thought too, could use some more weight though Mursak is as fast as Helm, he tailed Helm the whole way down the ice on a back check Tardif looked pretty good out there too Those are just thoughts off the top of my head for those of you who couldn't catch the game Agreed. I really think Janik should get a shot as a permanent on this roster, Kindl has some hands for a defenseman but no other part of his game impressed me. From watching today how Smith played this guy could be a top pairing defenseman and would probably be better then Kindl now

Before getting injured Salei played 24 minutes a night and was a physical force with big hits and dirty play. Before getting injureed Lilja was a solid 13 minute a night guy who didnt throw big hits but would fight three times a year and do ok. Compare the stats and Salei looks much better. There really isnt any basis in people saying Lilja is better

Neither am I, but I think if Downey is improved somewhat he would make a perfect 13th forward because there is going to be injuries and 50 games from Downey wouldnt be bad if you ask me.

I'm not going to be heart broken if he doesn't make it or get any games but I think its time we use a draft pick on someone who can fill that role and home grow someone. Callahan was a start but he's really the only fighter type in the system and he isn't a big guy. I'm not saying I want to draft like the leafs but I sure wouldn't have minded seeing the wings find a way to move up in the second round and get Brad Ross.

I think it should go to Kesler. He will score, play Selke worthy defense, is physical and will fight. He does anything he can to win. He is also very vocal on the ice and even if he is mouthy it just shows his passion and competitiveness. I don't see the same captain like fire from Henrik that I do from Kesler

If he wasn't 6'4 he would actually look like he was about 12 but there aren't a lot of 6'4 12 year old so I guess that works to his advantage

Fighting or at least being able to give a decent push back to someone or rough it up a bit is something that happens when youre a powerforward. Also I don't have to use "big words" or insults to try to make a point. You see the problem with everything youre saying is that you think youre basing it on a valid definition. Any definition that has Zetterberg fitting in as a powerforward is ridiculously off base. I don't get why you have to bend everything in hockey to benefit the softer players. "Oh zetterberg can fight", "Zetterberg is a powerforward". Just because they are softer players (especially your hard on for Zetterberg) doesn't mean they have to fit in to be every single thing in hockey. I would like to see you make that case first of all. And thats not even the point, Vladdy was this teams number one defenseman and STILL PLAYING for this team when the accident happened. Vladdy very well could have been still playing on this team if that accident didnt happen. Probie had been out of hockey for a while and the team he retired from and played the entire second half of his career for wasn't even Detroit. But seriously if you wanna make an argument about Probert doing as much for this team as Vladdy did then I would love to see it. Vladdy was the runner up for the norris the year of the accident and was a huge piece in our drought ending stanley cup win. Those 2 facts alone pretty much negate anything Probert did.
