Exactly the guys from the 80s the term was started from are the real power forwards. Guys like today are new age hybrid power forwards. Its like comparing Killswitch engage to Black Sabbath, both are metal but killswitch is new age metal and anyone who would call Black Sabbath (cam neely is sabbath) and Killswitch (franzen is kill switch) the same variety of metal are either deaf or dumb.

Yeah but then you have a guy on your team who wants 24 possibly but he wears a different number for one season then the next season he can switch to number 24? It just seems really odd because he did nothing to earn his number being out of circulation even for a year. The guy passed away, its sad that it happened but he did play the second half of his career with another team and wasn't a great player, just a great fighter. If every time a former wing died their number was taken out of circulation, even just for one year, it would cause a whack of troubles for people trying to pick jerseys

Who says you have to play a stay at home style to be physical? Ericcson can carry the puck all he wants but when he is physically engaged he seems to have his head with him more and just plays all around better. Growing up playing hockey (in Canada anyways) the coach would always say go out first shift and have a big hit or get hit hard, it puts your head in the game and has you thinking out there more. This seems like the case for Ericcson. Noone is saying dont skate and don't play a finesse style when you dont have the puck, but when a guy is coming down the wing on you you can still put him through the glass or smash anyone near the crease.

Meh him asserting himself in fights 5 times a season isn't going to stunt his development. If anything it'll just help him add a new dimension to his game that will make him a better player. If he fights and realizes he's good at it he would be more likely to start hammering guys infront of the net because he knows if they wanna fight him he can handle them.
-
It wouldnt hurt his game to actually fight more. When he is playing more physical his game seems much better then when he is trying to be Lidstrom out there. If he plays more physical he'll probably fight more as well.

Yeah theres a reason why NHL network counted down the top 10 power forwards of the 90s and had Roberts, Shanny, Lindros, Neely, Tkatchuk etc. Yeah knowing something about hockey makes you an enforcer slappy now
-
He always seemed to have his best games when he was playing physical. When he got scratched one game, he came back, played great against the sharks, fought Clowe and was throwing around the body. He was playing better when he was playing that style

Okay so we're going to use the most skilled player in the league in Datsyuk to compare whether or not a guy is a power forward. Heres an idea, lets compare Zetterberg's style to an in his prime Eric Lindros. Wow all of a sudden Zetterberg doesn't look like he uses his body that much. Seriously using that datsyuk comparison you could make an argument for Leino being a power forward because he uses his body to shield the puck down low. Fights have actually always been a showing of true power forwards. Guys that have the power to beat the s*** out of you if you mess with them, they will run you over and play physically to play offense. Youre right PIMs aren't needed, but generally a guy who plays like a real power forward will get them from roughing calls, boarding, fighting etc because of the style of game they play. I wouldn't say someone needs 100 pims to be a power forward but if they have a tonne of hits where penalties weren't called and some fights against fairly tough guys where they show they can handle themself in a fight then they are a power forward. And really EVA? The enforcer slappies?... More like the people who watched hockey before the lock out if youre seriously considering Z a power forward. Power forwards are good players who excel at all physical parts of the game, Z doesn't even hit hardly and never fights. Fighting is a physical part of the game. You don't have to just be good at being phyisical to go to the net, you have to be physical in every aspect of the game

The way I look at it now is there are 2 types of powerforwards, the traditional powerforward and the new age power forward. Guys like Franzen could be counted as new age power forwards. Basically they use their body and size to protect the puck, they hit but not all that often and they don't fight. Not all that rare. The traditional type is Neely, Lindros, Shanny, Gordie etc. They'll beat you and beat you up. During the time that these guys played, Franzen would not be considered a power forward, he would more likely be considered a waste of his size. He would still be good but not a power forward. Traditional guys would fight, score and hit like trucks. and really eva jokinen is more of a power forward then Kevin Stevens? Well Stevens 54 goal, 123 point and 254 pims in a single season beg to differ. Say what you want about him playing with Mario but Mario wasn't the one racking up those pims. Olli has one season of 100+ pims. Stevens is a textbook power forward. I read your posts and anymore I really don't know if youre serious and just know nothing about hockey, you are having a good laugh cause youre a troll, or if you were dropped a lot as a baby? Zetterberg doesn't even come close to being a power forward, some people I tell ya...

This honouring Probert stuff has really gotta stop. The guy finished his career with a different team, and known as an enforcer first and foremost (I know he had some points too). I know its unfortunate that he passed away earlier then he should've but its not like the Vladdy situation where he was on the team when it happened. I love Probie and everything he did for this team but really his number does not deserve to be taken out of circulation or anything. A jersey patch or number on the helmets maybe nut not honouring his number

I'm pretty sure you have to download a certain program to your computer, one of my friends has one and he is going to be making me a wings theme anyday now

No Doughty is great. The sky is the limit for him. In junior he never touched the weight room and then once he got drafted he hit the weights hard and look now, he's 20 and has a norris nomination. Wait 3 years when he really fills out and gets some experience, it won't surprise me if he becomes an all time great
-
Hes really toned down his antics as of late with Tampa. I wonder if hes just growing up? Either way if the wings could get this guy somehow I would be ecstatic, 22 goals and over 200 PIMs. He's a guy you can play on your top line and he'll protect your stars from the punks this league has

Last year we all thought the roster was set and then May came around so I wouldn't say we're done yet. I wouldn't mind seeing Hendricks signed. You could put him in GR for if there are any injuries, he had 9 goals in 56 games (one less than Miller in way less games), he's young so a year down the road when Holland wants a tough guy we dont have to sign an old washed up guy, and he had 10 fights last season. He may not be a heavyweight but he can handle all the pests for sure. I don't think he should be on the team this year but toss him in the AHL and save him for the future

Hopefully Downey is dressed for this game. The leafs have a lot of meat heads in the minors that will be looking to beat up on anything they can to earn a spot on Burke's team. Wouldn't mind seeing Callahan play in this game to see what hes really got lol. If not Downey and Abdelkader will be in for a long night.

There is a possibility that a bigger deal then we thought could be in the works. I doubt it but there is a possibility for sure. Maybe he has trouble getting anything for Meech and instead Kindl is moved for a solid prospect opposed to a 5th rounder for Meech.

I think Toronto's toughness is overrated actually. Orr is arguably the best enforcer in the league but other then him I just don't think their team is a tough as people seem too think. Mike Brown is just a middleweight and nothing special, Rosehill only played about 15 games last season (he is actually really good for a fighter he has wheels and a touch around the net), and most of the other guys are punks who aren't really tough. Phaneuf fights non fighters anymore, Schenn is a crappy fighter, Beauch never fights, Komi hardly fights now and the list goes on. They are a mean squad for sure but I really think overrated as well

That is great news. 190 pounds is a good playing weight for a guy his size in the NHL. Size shouldn't be an issue for this guy to make it which is weird because usually later round red wing picks from Europe have size problems

Not to mention Daniel is ranked higher then Henrik. Everyone knows Henrik is the better twin -
I can't believe the people on here trying to send Ericcson down etc to make room for Lilja. If Lilja really wanted to be back he would've taken 500K less then he wanted just like guys in the past have. I mean if Yzerman takes a discount here then I'm pretty sure Lilja can too. Oh well Salei is better if healthy and came much cheaper, we improved on our team. You guys shouldn't be upset about this, we're in better shape to win next season. Have fun taking your talents to the KHL Lilja.

Wow that is probably the worst list I have ever read. First it starts with Zetterberg. I know we're wings fan but really? Take the homer glasses off, he didn't even score 25 goals last year and isn't even the best player on his team. Crosby at 10 is way off. Martin St Louis is much better then 31, and yet again youre being a homer with Kronwall above Seabrook. Oh man you need to take a few minutes, compose yourself, then come back and rewrite this list to regain some credibility on this board. -
http://www.redwingscentral.com/camps/2010-11/rosters/detroit.php Its nearly time for the prospects tourney at Traverse city and I was wondering who you guys think will surprise us. I think Callahan will put up solid number and a few fights which should have everyone here happy. Ferraro getting to a new team and having a good camp shold have him coming out playing great hockey. I just have a feeling Cord's very powerful game will have everyone surprised at how well he battles in corners and lays big hits. Wouldn't be surprised if he has a fight or two as well. I'm also interested to see Skinner play against bigger, more NHL ready guys. Mcilrath should be destroying people, I'm expecting pietragelo to tear it up out there and I want to see if Stevie Y's first pick Connolly is really as great as people are saying. I'm thinking there will be a lot of fights, this has to be one of the tougher prospect teams we've sent in a while. Callahan, Cord, Archibald, Zanetti and even guys like Lashoff, Piche, Aubry, Smith and Ferraro can throw a big hit or will drop the gloves and do alright. Seems like our prospect group has toughened up as of late. EDIT: Would also like to point out there are only 5 guys under 6 feet no the roster and 4 of them are 5'11. Thats what I like to see.

I'm thinking Nyquist isn't there because he is an NCAA player and would have to pay for himself. As for AA, I know he just got done playing in the Hlinka for Sweden and maybe has some World Junior stuff to take care of, maybe a Swede like Mindfly could chime in there, he seems to know what hes talking about when it comes to Swedish prospects
-
Leads his team in hits after some big growth spurts. I bet once this guy fills out to 215 pounds which he probably will that he'll start hitting with authority. One can hope anyways

Has anyone heard about his physical game really? I know he's big and protects the puck well but does he throw a solid body check or what?
