Miller + a pick could land us a decent 6th defenseman. A guy like Brookbank
-
No Federov is surprising to me
-
Oh so Almqvist is pretty highly regarded in Sweden then Mindfly? Its not just us LGWers that have high hopes for him?
-
I agree on Ericcson and Hnidy. The thing that bugs me about oru defense is how they try to tie up forwards infront of the net. Put the forwards on their ass infront of the net and its a hell of a lot harder to score then if Brian Rafalski is tying up your stick
-
So Alqvist is going to be on the world junior team this year?
-
If we add Hnidy, I like our team toughness going into next season. It would be a huge improvement over seasons past. Janik, Ericcson, Abby, Eaves, Hnidy, Bert are all capable fighters. Hnidy is a very good fighter and if Janik gets playing time I bet he'll be fihgting all the time trying to keep his spot in the NHL
-
Yeah but because Pronger is dirty he can't be on the wings, even though he is better then every wing not named Lidstrom. I dont know why posters somehow remember Fischer as a saint or something, 2 suspensions and much less talent then Pronger at that age but Pronger is too big of a ****** for the team...
-
If we add Hnidy to our #6 spot we are set for grit.I would prefer one more tough 4th liner and then we would be absolutely fine but a combination of Abby, Ericcson, Hnidy, Eaves a little, Bert a little and Janik perhaps rotating in and out of the lineup as the 7th guy and this team looks decent toughness wise. If Janik ends up as the 6th Dman I tihnk we see both him and Abby end up with around 10 fights each. Ericcson is the wild card here. When the guy decides to get mean, watch out. But its just too often that he doesn't. He is a guy who could actually go with some of the lesser heavyweights like Parros and actually do alright I think. If he starts fighting and clearing the crease then this team looks good going forward to me.
-
Yeah maybe not just wings fans hate him, but I doubt there are many other forums where people would say they wouldn't want him on our team. The guy is a great hockey player and only on LGW would the fact that he is a rough and dirty player make him not wanted.
-
Pronger is also a top 3 defenseman during his time in the NHL. Both facets of Prongers game were higher then Fischers. Fischer was a tough dman who would hacj and whack infront of the net, fight, hit and give cheapshots. Had Fischer stayed in the league I think he would have ended up a fairly dirty player. But this board would love him just like we love anyone that the wings have and hate any player who is dirty or tough until the wings actually get them.
-
That won't happen with Helm but I could see the other 2 sometime next season fighting on the same shift. Eaves isn't a bad scrapper when he decides to go, I would like to see more of it out of him really. And playing with huge hitting, agitating Abby I think Eaves will be forced into it more this year.
-
I dont get how ppl can see Flip being a life long wing more then Abby. If Flip doesn't started putting up , I think he'll be gone in the next little while
-
After watching this past season I don't see 50 out of Z, 40 is great but 50 I do not see
-
When would he have the chance until he's give a shot. A 3rd line guy stuck in a grinder role wouldn't be able to show case that very often. Also he wouldn't have to QB it Kronwall would
-
Not quite on the same level but yeah they are very similar players, both had the ability to move a puck and play a solid game while being dirty bastards at the same time. How old was Fish like 25 when he went down? He already had a suspension for breaking his stick across a guys face at that age. Obviously Pronger is dirtier but he also had a longer career to get all those accolades.
-
I think its Abby. Hes from Michigan so he'll probably take disconts if he has to to stay here and hes a rare player. He can hit, fight and will put the puck in the net in the future. He was also drafted by us.
-
A lot of times he seemed like he was trying to do too much out there. Hopefully he returns to his simple game of nailing people (where was that last year?), being good defensively and being a great penalty killer. If he plays his style of game the goals will come, something just seemed a bit off about him last season. Either way I still like him and hope he and his buddy Abby tear it up nex season
-
He also has some decent offensive instincts which would go a long way and he is miles better defensively then Williams so he would be less of a liability that way
-
I know its completely impossible to make the trade but the people saying Pronger doesn't add what this team needs need to get their head checked. I bet everyone here still wishes we still had Fischer playing, yeah that Fischer guy who crosschecked whats his name in the face. This board is ridiculous sometimes. If we home grow our own tough players we love them, but if te trade idea is ever presented its a big no. I hate to tell you guys but we have a kid coming up, Mitch Callahan, who Nill himself said he will be our Matt Cooke. We all hate Cooke but I bet this board will love Callahan because we drafted him
-
I think it could work, if Eaves played there all year I could see hhim getting 40 points. Maybe not this season but definitely the next as he improves. Eaves can rifle a wrist shot hard I know that, but how hard is his clapper?

Seems like the wings are trying to get physical, tough defenseman in the system. Cord played a very tough game at the prospect tourny and the wings have offered a tryout to Zanetti. 6' 200 is good size for a guy that age. I hope both of them can get contracts, then hopefully next season when Cord is full time in the OHL next year he really impresses http://www.hockeyfights.com/fights/89345 http://www.hockeyfights.com/fights/92471 Seems like a pretty big hitter. That Clifford is an a pretty solid enforcer in the OHL and Zanetti hammered him. Doesn't seem like the best fighter but he will fight at least

With Modano centering Huds and a healthy Cleary I tihnk we have one of, if not the best tird lines in the league. With CHicago's third line gone now I can't think of any other team with a better one. Modano almost scored 20 last year playing mos of the season on a line with Barch. So with 60 point Hudler and 20-25 goal healthy Danny I tihnk Modano could easily get 40 points, anyways the real question in this thread is which teams have a third line better then detroit now? I'm sure there are a few compareable ones but I wanna see what you guys think,
-
Who are you bumping from the third line of huds mike and cleary to move Helm up. Let the young guns play on the 4th line, hit everything that moves and chip in the occasional goal. Abby Helm Eaves is gong to be really fun to watch.
-
Give me Hnidy. I think his style of game is perfect for what the wings are looking for. He has experience to mentor Ericcson and plays a style of game that E did in GR. Maybe that nastiness would rub off on Ericcson and if it did he would be a much more efficient player witht that size of his. Ericcson would see someone on his team clearing the crease, smearing opposing forwards and sticking up for his goalie. His price would probably be around 750K and on a 1 or 2 year deal I'm completely happy with that.

That 4th line will be extremely fun to watch. They actually have skill, something to prove, Eaves will mix it up, Abby will fight and they all throw some nice hits. I expect a lot outta the young guns this season
