Z is horrible in shootouts. I always wondered why he would be put in over Bert who always seemed to be successful in the shootouts. I'm not sure how Modano is in shootouts but with 500+ goals I'm sure he's alright. Its gotta be Dats, Hudler then maybe toss Bert or Mikey in there depending on whose playing well that game. On a side note, I sure wish we had jason williams still for the shootouts

Its going to be sweet watching a third line go out and dominate other teams third lines and then have a 4th line coming out the door flying around making huge hits (all 3 are capable), a few fights (that means you abby) and chipping in probably almost 10 goals apiece. Abby will be much better then last year. He'll be nastier and not playing with May and Maltby. I know I started this thread about the third line but really what team has aline where you can expect all the players to put up more then 10 goals?
-
Well I think with one of th best play making centerman down the middle and another soon to be 35 goal scoring winger on his other side and all of whom are just entering their prime I think he'll definitely crack 80 points more then once in his career
-
Yeah thats true as well but for the most part I think its safe to say that will be our third line at least to start the season. Anyone know who Washingtons third line is?
-
I think Perry putting up 80 or 90 points would probably outweigh those qualities. Its not like hes some 4th liner running his mouth, the guy does kinda have room to talk. He outscores 99% of the guys he trash talks anyways
-
Yeah just like Draper and Maltby but I'm sure you cheered for them back in 1997 and 1998, I know the hate on this board is huge for Perry especially because we have a bit of a mini rivalry with the Ducks, but come on, Chely was a hell of a lot dirtier then Perry, was on our division rivals and was twice as hated as Perry. Who really hates Chelios now though? Its always different when the players aren't trash talking your own team and until that happens I know people will say I'm wrong but this guy outscored anyone on our team this year.. I'm sure we would cheer for a guy leading our team in goals
-
Yeah just like Maltby and Samuellson were hated around the league. Perry isn't out there throwing cheap hits like Cooke does, he just runs his mouth and acts like a ***** sometimes. Maltby in his prime was way worst and Maltby never backed it up. Perry will fight every now and then t least. Say what you want but if we had a guy like Perry who threw the other team off their game while putting up 80 points, we would love him here

I would say Janik fits this bill. If he makes the team next year you can expect him to be fighting and playing physical to keep his job, the only problem there is he hasn't proven he can consistently play tough at the NHL level. Ericcson could really develop a mean streak this year now that he is more used to the NHL as well but thats not a for sure thing. Janik is a mean defenseman and he showed flashes of good play while he was up last year, this might be the year we can see what he can do. I also agree with everything you said about Crymson. On a side note, I remember last year I made a thread saying I thought Janik may be Lilja's replacement down the line and everyone ridiculed me, whose laughing now
-
I'm not saying I would want him for that price because the wings don't have that space. I was just saying that everytime a tough player from another team is brought up Crymson decides he isn't capable of plaing the game of hockey whatsoever. I seriously wonder if that guy even watches hockey. I would make that deal in a heartbeat
-
I love the style of game Janik plays and would love him to get his shot on this team. He hits, fights and seemed very solid in his call up. But giving a guy like him a chance instead of signing Mitchell would be dumb. Mitchell is a top 4 defenseman, who hits (he doesn;t really fight but oh well). Mitchell would be the exact person to solidify that bottom pairing and is good enough to cover for Ericcson. I like the idea of Hnidy as well. He's a solid fighter that plays nasty and has been around the block. He knows how to play the game and would toughen this team up at the same time
-
Has Mitchell ever won a cup? Maybe he sees the wings get Mikey and says "If I go there its almost a guaranteed cup" and decides to sign with us cheap. Mitchell is a great defensive defenseman, he c an throw the body and has a bit of a mean streak. If the wings signed him I think we're the favourites this season
-
Who would you move besides Miller and Meech. I agree I would get rid of draper over Miller but thats not going to happen, so what else can you do. I would rather have a solid 6th dman then a combo of Miller and Meech, Theyre not needed this season
-
Eveeryone says how much they would hate Perry just like they would hate Chelios etc. Bottom line is if Perry came here and had an 80 point season he would be loved, just like Chelios was after a while here. Sammuelson and Maltby both played the same way Perry does almost too a tee, except Perry will score 80 points and have a couple fights while doing it. I seriously doubt he would be hated after a season here.
-
This coupled with the return of Huds and a healthy Cleary is going to give us an absolutely sick third line. Hopefully this means Miller and Meech are out the door via trade for a solid bottom pairing defenseman or picks then we can sign Hnidy. Maybe Holland really thinks Smith can do it though so who knows
-
Every single time there is a tough player, I think its funny how youre the one that finds something to complain about.. Reaally Sutton can't skate? Well the ret of the NHL must really suck then if a guy who can't skate at all is capable of constantly hammering guys and being the biggest hitter in the league. Also Sutton is acapable defender, much better then a bottom pairing guy

http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/red_wings_prospect_landon_ferr_6.html Don't think this is posted yet so here it is. Hopefully the kid can have a good start to the season, I would love to see him make the world junior squad if he's healthy, he's a sniper for sure and he's got an edge to his game. Also note that the article says he is one of the most skilled players in the WHL. Thats what I like to hear. Hopefully the Silvertips have a good playmaker that can set him up and get him off to a good start. EDIT: Everett had a pretty good team last year with 97 points and a .674 win record. They have some pretty good players that Lando will probably be on the top line with. Also they must be a strong team defensively because most players have a very good plus/minus
-
So I'm off my rocker because I think Holland is going to trade some people before the season starts, like he's already basically said about Meech. He isn't going to have Meech, Miller and possibly another forward sitting in the press box every game. Since when does a hockey team do that? They aren't gonig to sit on a bunch of guys who should be playing, depth guys are great but not that many, usually you have 1 13th forward not 3... maybe your insatisfiable lust for figure skating type hockey has knocked you off your rocker? or you just don't know how hockey works... I think its both personally

As I go through and read about Smith and his great ability to play hockey, the soting reports also seem to slip in a comment about his physical play. I've read he plays fairly dirty with hacks and whacks, takes the body hard and will put guys on their ass, and at dropyourgloves, com I noticed that he had a fight with Richard Greenop that he won. Greenop is one of the toughest enforcers in the AHL right now. I know Smith has good size at about 6'2 but what does everyone here think of Smith's physical game. I know he won't be a fighter in the NHL but could he be a dirtier version of Nick Kronwall? Had he played in the OHL instead of college maybe his nasty side wouldve been more obvious and we would have more info on it. Discuss..

Just thought I would throw this out there, in Smiths last season of Junior A he had 90 PIMs in 39 games. Thats quite a bit for a 17 year old most of the season playing against 20 year olds. I think over the course of 82 games that would prorate to about 190 PIMs (might be wrong though). Seems like he does have a serious mean streak in him
-
Have you seen much of him play or are you gong off scouting reports kinda like I am. I would love to hear from someone who has watched him play a bit to see more what hi style is. Nicastro is suposedly a huge hitter from what I've read and Piche can take care of business. Seems like the wings have some hard hitters coming up in the future. Oh and I like Lashoff because he has shown he could be a very capable fighter when he decides to go.
-
Yeah but also isn't it a league built more around skill with less dirty players because s*** like that is tolerated much less. Thas how I've always viewed the NCAA anyways
-
Yeah that Captain material thing is kind of what I was thinking of. His point producing ability is through the roof, but it seems like weve finally got ourselves one of those coveted mean players that can play the game at a high level. As for the Quincy comparison, he really started turning on his physical play trying to make the Detroit roster. If Smith is that physical plus has about number 2 defenseman skill, he will for sure be a special player
-
A poor man's Pronger would be nice. Dirty in front of the net, hits hard but because of his skill level only fights when really necessary. If Smith becomes that type of player I wold be happy, same with if he became a Kronwall type that plays a little dirtier
-
Yeah I noticed that as well. Noone with high assist totals but guys with good enough assist totals. Red Deer seemed to have Coetzee and then noone else getting assists by looking at their stats whereas Everett has much more balanced scoring (last season at least). With Feraro's speed he creates his own chances, his 37 goals as a rookie were on a god awful team. If he even has something decent to work with, and his foot speed back, his point totals should be up again
-
No Holland would make trades to get rid of NHL worthy guys who have worth so that we don't have 2 or 3 guys rotting in the press box when we could get a pick or prospect out of them. Get rid of a few guys like that and suddenly Downey is closer on the depth chart, its obviously not to make room for Downey, but the wings are going to have to trade someone its pretty much inevitable
