    Are we becoming Lightning fans?

Beside Toronto and Detroit last season I watched Tampa games the most by far since Stamkos is there and I watched him in Sarnia for 2 seasons. Now that Steve is there they will definitely be a team I want to beat every other team except the wings. They have the top 6 in place, Hedman needs to take a step forward and Ohlund needs to play like he can. Next offseason if they add a decent op 4 defenseman this team should b poised for the playoffs again

    2010 Wings Prospect Tourney Announcement

I wish this would be broadcast again. Its one of the greatest opportunities to see how all the prospects stack up compared to eachother and other team's pipelines

    Pick Your Favorite Wings' Title

Oh man where I'm from if that series would've happened it would have been crazy. South Western Ontario is either leafs or wings fans basically and the Wings would have absolutely destroyed the leafs. I voted 97. It ended the drought and that team was what I adore in a hockey team. Grit, determination, skill and toughness blended into one team

    Wings offer Aaron Downey Tryout?

Well I was watching the OTR episode where Downey basically annonuced his tryout. Landsburg asked if he was retired or what his situation and he said no, I took this year off to train hard and work on my skating, then I gave Kenny H a call and he said come on out for a try out, we're looking for a guy to Fill May's role last season. He said he was working hard on his skating, I know its unlikey but imagine he comes back and has a really great try out, and has actually increased his speed quite a bit. His speed seemed to be the only thing hindering him, he was good enough positionally and was a solid heavyweight fighter. I doubt he'll see many games next year but who knows, maybe this log jam of forwards we have is going to be cleared by Kenny via trade and suddenyl Downey would be up about 3 spots on the depth chart.

    Jarnkrok (2nd pick, 51st overall)

Yeah but Z was close to this guys size at his draft day was he not? Z is now at a good, probably average playing weight and not considered small. This guy can put some meat on for sure, especially as an 18 year old he has tonnes of room to grow Haha that show is atlantic canada humour at its finest

    Destinations for Un-signed players?

If we added Sutton, we would have the hardest hitting blue line in the NHL
  8. Tatar is 19 and had a decent season in the AHL, Doughty at 20 already has een nominated for the Norris for god's sake. You guys are saying we shpuldn't give up Smith or Tatar for Doughty, thats jst dumb. Smith is older then Doughtyand hasn't even been in the AHL, Tatar is projecting to be a speedy Hudler and proably a 70 point guy. Doughty younger then Smith hasa norris nomination and an Olympic gold medal to his name. Its not like we're trading the farm away for a 30 year old, this is a guy who is the same age but has potential to e the est defenseman of his generation. I can't believe you wouldn't give up Tatar or Smith for him. It is much easier to find 70 point guys like Tatar in free agency then it is to find the soon to be est defenseman in the NHL.
  9. I would do 3 firsts, Kronner (especially if he still isn't hitting) and Tatar. I wouldn't wanna give up Smith unless I had to because he cold step up and be a young, great number 2 guy beside Doughty for years to come. I don't think a pairing of Lids and Rafalski in 2010 would be even close to the talent of Smith Doughty paired up in lets say 2015.
  10. I think Doughty will end up higher level defenseman then Pronger is, he may not hit Nick status but thats pretty high status to hit. He will be the best defenseman of his era, better then that Larson out of Sweden I think from what I've read about him and that guy will probably be his only competition. Losing Mule's goal scoring would hurt for sure in the playoffs but he's always hurt in the reg season, we would free up a big contract and we would have a bonafied number 1 guy. Doughty also can throw a pretty solid check as well which is something I tihnk he really doesn't get a lot of credit for like he deserves

    1972 Summit Series

I did have it, took it outta the case to watch it and it didn't work. Never did get arond to buying another copy unfortunately
  12. I might get flamed for this but I think Doughty will be a defenseman that will be damn close to Lidstrom's level when he hits his prime. The kid has enormous potential. Barring any injuries he may go down as one of the all time greats, hes that good. Even if he isn't as good as Lidstrom in his prime, he will be by far the best defenseman of his era and will be capable of playing like Lidstrom has the last few years. Weber is a legit number one defenseman and will also be very good but hes not the same level as doughty I don't think. If we could get either guy I would be ecstatic. Chara is a good 3 or so year option until Holland can figure something else out to get us a number 1 guy. I would trade Mule plus 2 first rounders for Doughty, anyone think thats too much?

Remembering Derian Hatcher's tenure with Detroit

Zubov wasn't even close to Lidstrom first of all. Lids was/is better offensively and 100 x better defensively. During their championship season Hatcher led his team in TOI/game, was decent had decent numbers with 30 points and was 2 off of the plus minus lead. He was a great, stay at home, mean defenseman. While leading his team in TOI he also had over 100 pims because he was capable of beating guys up and intimidated his opponents just like Pronger does today and after Stevens Hatcher was probably the most intimidating in the league around that time. Zubov was important to the PP and was the offensive guy for the stars yeah, but Hatch led in short handed time on ice and I don't really think Matvichuk was a better defender then him, you can say that to try and down play Hatcher but youre not fooling anyone. Hatcher was the team leader, the defensive, stay at home bruiser that scared the hell out of his opponents, guy who would fight anyone, and was the lead penalty killer. I'm not saying Hatcher is better then Zubov. I'm saying first, Zubov doesn't even come close to Lidstrom and second, Hatcher and Zubov were both extremely important to the Stars championship team and both deserve a lot of credit as the top 2 defenders. He deserves more credit then you give him, he didn't just ride on the coattails of Zubov

Osgood may retire following this season

Exactly, and the great play of our rookie goalie who was probably 4th in Vezina votes this year and was by far this teams MVP

Osgood may retire following this season

Really people? Youre going to say Howard was burnt out and thats why we lost in the playoffs? Get real, he was a rookie and s*** the bed with that Couture goal. Ozzie didn't deserve to start games and if he did we probably wouldn't have made playoffs at all. Anyone remember the game against LA when Howard made like 51 saves and completely stole the game? Ozzie hasn't done something like that for over a year, its time to move on HOWARD IS THIS TEAMS FUTURE so get used to him playing a lot. He almost had Vezina worthy stats this year and was second in calder voting. He was top 5 in almost every single goal tending stat last season

Remembering Derian Hatcher's tenure with Detroit

I dunno about that. Hatcher was one of the best stay at home, shut down defeseman of his era. Did he maybe get too much credit? Perhaps but he also was that teams leader and captain for their championship and scared the hell out of other teams forwards. Hatcher in his day was a very good defenseman but the new NHL/injury really put his career on a fast downslide PLus he did stuff like this for his teammates. I bet JR didn't come near Modano for a very long time after this one.

    NHL's bes hitter

I don't care if he throws clean hits, which he does a lot. Its his dirty ones that he nearly never answers to that bother me. He isn't nearly as bad as some of the other guys in the league but he's still not great. Be like Gordie Howe? Gordie was one of the toughest fighters in the league during his prime, maybe the toughest

Yeah too bad he doesn't play like that anymore

Remembering Derian Hatcher's tenure with Detroit

I was pumped to have him. Hatcher was one of those few guys in the league who were intimidating, physical and could play the game top notch. I was so pumped when he came here but it was so disappointing seeing him get hurt. He sure was a mean SOB but that ACL tear was just too much to recover from I guess
  22. At this point I think he'll at least start the season there and then if his head stays somehwat on straight he'll stay up. He'll bring some toughness adn grit they lost with Buff and Ladd but won't be a great replacement.
  23. Even if you knew one they probably wouldn't know whats going on since they are 98.7% band wagoners

    Wings should sign Paul Kariya

I know a lot of scrubs that would get up after a hit like that and play again but wouldn't score that goal because Kariya used to be a sick player. I'm probably not implying enough credit but I actually think it was pretty solid on his part. I just wouldn't call him a tough player becxuse of it. I would say it was more of an extraordinary goal where he manned up. His whole career wasn't made up of plays like that so I still wodn't consider him a tough player. Know what I mean?
