    Philadelphia's cap issues

well they saved 3.5 million or so if my math is right(it probably isnt) so they will just be under now I believe.

    Gagne to Lightning

Philly was trying to dump salary I get it and Walker is a Philly style player, but thats a pretty big rip off for Stevie. Philly shouldve got a higher draft pick or something

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Helm and Abby were given qualifying offers which hardly conuts. They are obviously going to try and work out more of a raise or more term then what they were offered. I seem tor remember Holland saying after Modano decides what hes doing he'll work out deals with Helm and Abby

    Top 5 Fighters

I think Rypien is overrated big time. He throws the jersey over ppls heads near the ends of fights then tees off on them so the refs can't get in like theyre supposed to. Yeah he's small and takes on bigger guys but its annoying how much ppl overrate him in my eyes. He throws weak punches too I think. Watch the fight with May he had this year and May was pounding him until May got tired. Once May was tired out Ripper put his jersey over his head and teed off so the refs couldnt get in.

Yeah but when given the chance a 6'3 hockey player should make a hit o the other team. Mule chooses not too alot of the time

    Rugged Defenseman

Reading through the NHL central rankings I see a lot of players I like and Detroit could draft anyone I don't really know but I thought I would analyze the rankings a bit. Since the wings have seemed to go a bit towards gritty guys recently I'm just going to talk about the gritty guys. A type of player Detroit is missing in the system. Rugged Defenseman Dylan Mcilrath - He's ranked 17 in NA skaters and was voted toughest player in the WHL, which is a difficult feat to reach. Detroit could end up drafting around this spot so taking him would fill a void for sure. An enforcer(a scary one at that) that is good enough to go first round. This would be the pick I would most like to see. He's huge too at 6'4 A few other guys include Radko Gudas. He's been scrapping in the dub but he's from Prague(I think),Tyler Stahl 15 fights this year in the dub 6'3 so he has the size to be mean in the NHL, and Austin Levi from plymouth who could be a potential pick since he's from Farmington Hills. I'm not sure but Patrik Nemeth has some size and is Swedish so he could possibly fit this mold. I remember someone zoomed in on a list of guys Kenny was scouting or something on TV and Mcilrath was on the list and highlighted so this could very well be a void they are trying to fill this year. I could actually see Detroit trading up for Mcilrath to be honest.

Only use big hits from the ;last 2 seasons after he became a goal scorer. I know he has some big ones prior to that but find some recent ones and make sure they are legit hits for a guy who is almost the biggest on his team

Like I said its a stretch to say he plays like Hudler. I will give you he routinely goes to the net, but so does every player on the wings. Where I do not agree is when you say he hits. Obviously he does yeah, we've seen him throw some dandies. But he hardly ever does anymore. Breaking into the league as a grinder he routinely threw huge hits, now he might have one big hit a season. For a guy with that size, he should be throwing it around more, I always see him letting up on a guy when he should be putting him through the glass. The fighting doesn't bother me because he is one of our best goal scorers, but scorers aren't above finishing a check and Franzen does not very often

Callahan will probably end up at about 6' when he's playing which isn't big by any means, but it is big enough. Especially given his streak of wins last year against a lot of guys who were 6'3 or 6'4. Seriously the kid lost about 3 out of 20 fights last year and they weren't even very big losses. Speaking of Aubry, he could end up a pretty big hitter. This is the way I look at him. He played for a soft team and he just got big. He didn't have time to fill out at all but still led his team in hits. Once he fills out his frame he will probably be absolutely punishing guys with the weight to go with his height. He likes to be physical but once his weight packs on he will be so much more effective at it. He also started getting in some fights once he got big, I can only imagine as he gets stronger to go with his size the fighting might as well. Callahan - Aubry - "Tough guy" That could be a future absolute killer 4th line especially if Aubry gets meaner as he gets bigger. The wings future looks much more gritty then the past.

    Philadelphia's cap issues

I meant its not really about cap space because it isn't going to clear a whole bunch but its a start. Second, not trading Powe would be dumb. Theyre just going to give their RFA away without recieving some kind of compensation? What youre suggesting is that trading an extra bottom 6er or 2 isn't goign to help clear any cap space, which it will. Trading one of those guys could be the difference i them being over the cap or under it. Would it be better to trade someone with a 4 mil contract to clear space? yes Would trading a couple bottom 6ers and clear a million still be a good way to clear some space? For sure. as a wings fan and the tight cap we've had the last few years you should know a million dollars can be huge when calling up for injuries.

We've got the ice tonight, 8-9, 3rd floor.

I actually haven't noticed him talking about playing juniors. It may have been mentioned in a thread a year ago I vaguely remember being about what level of hockey we play etc, but other then that I haven't noticed one bit

    Philadelphia's cap issues

Yeah thats really smart. Lets have 3 NHL calibre players sitting in our press box while we're in cap trouble instead of trading a couple of them, clearing a bit of space so we're not in as much trouble, then see what kind of move we can make with Gagne. You really think theyre gonna sit on 3 NHL players not getting ice time while they're 2 million over the salary cap? Give your head a shake if thats the case Thank you. Cap space is cap space. Whether its 5 million youre clearing or just a million, Philly is going to trade players they wont use in order to clear it.

    Philadelphia's cap issues

Yeah and when you have 3 too many bottom 6 players and move 2 of them, youre clearing cap space. Thats how math works. Team pay roll - 2 players salary = cleared cap space. Yeah theyre gonna trade Gagne but you can also clear space by getting rid of bottom 6ers if you have 3 too many. We traded Leino to make cap space for Mule but I guess by your logic we should've traded Datsyuk so Mule could come back Not every player is perfect but I really can't think of any other time he has really been a diver. for the most part he just plays with an edge and will fight almost anyone and pisses everyone off. He's like a prime Maltby that fights.

    Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson

Datsyuk has been over a ppg twice the last 3 playoffs. Hossa has once while playing with the best player in the world as his centerman. All the while Datsyuk is much better defensively and one playoff was playing with a very bad charlie horse iirc. Datsyuk is not as big of a choker in playoffs as Hossa is especially when you take into account the last 3 years, Hossa has played with the team he think will win the cup and should've been by far and away teh best player on the ice, but he hasn't been. Not even close

    Philadelphia's cap issues

Oh I didn't realize he was an RFA, and it still wouldn't surprise me to see him either not signed or his rights traded since he's an RFA. Its not so much about clearing cap space as it is getting rid of an unnecessary amount of bottom 6 players. They have more bottom 6 guys then Detroit does right now and instead of paying 3 guys to sit in the press box they can save probably a million or so by trading 1 or 2 of them. Haha ok there Mr. 46 posts....

    Philadelphia's cap issues

He had that one incident in the playoffs but other then that, he doesn't have a reputation as a diver. I mean come on, you've watched Maltby in his prime, he was a rag doll

    Philadelphia's cap issues

They have a s*** load of forwards. I can't see them not trading someone moving forward. Maybe Darrel Powe is the one traded He can play enough that he would be a decent 13th forward to plug in there when we need a tough guy I think. He's compareable to Downey hockey wise but a bit tougher I would say. I wouldn't mind him in GR and being there if we need a tough guy or something.

    Mitch Callahan

Its true, I dunno who gave you minus 2 but he definitely does not use his size like he should. If he played with the guts of Helm he would be an unstoppable force out there. saying he plays smaller then Hudler is a stretch but he definitely does play smaller then he should. Back before he was a goal scorer, he used to cream guys, now he doesn't

Dan Cleary working way back from surgery

Yeah I remember he dropped about 15 pounds or so and came back playing without gaining even 5 back I believe.

    Philadelphia's cap issues

Cote is basically a Brad May level hockey player but a bit bigger and better fighter I would say. He's a heavyweight for sure but I dunno if he's a good enough player for this team

Did you watch him play? Who cares about stats, the box score doesn't matter, its how the guy plays that matters.

    Philadelphia's cap issues

He makes 1.1 which I don't think is too much for him. It looks to me like they have to move a bottom 6 player and a top 6. It may not be Carcillo, but Lapperriere was a beast for them and CArcillo got scratched near the end there, he also has a cheap contract so maybe they plan on moving him? Theyre 2.5 mil over the cap now. Maybe even Riley Cote would be moved.Wouldn't mind trading for him, put him in GR or the press box and use him when the going gets tough. He has a really cheap contract.
  24. newfy

    Philadelphia's cap issues

They have too many 4th line type players basically. So even if they dont wanna part with carcillo maybe they say bye to Lapperriere? They must be shopping around some of their bottom 6 guys. Meech and a decent draft pick for Carcillo maybe?

Whats the point of an internet forum if we're all going to agree? Thats boring discussion. "Insert topic of discussion here" "I agree" "Yup sounds good" "Yeah youre right" That would be dumb if ppl didn't argue their side of an opinion. I hardly ever see eye to eye with Crymson, but you gotta have argument to make the forum interesting.
