I meant skill as in guys carrying the puck, making the prett ylittle passes etc. Cleary could put the puck in the net cause he put his head down and crashed it. That line crashed the net hard, hell drapes even put one in off his face remember lol?

Its hilarious when people say that the wings won in 2008 with a soft, pretty boy team. That team was by far the wings toughest since the lockout and for over 70 games in the regular season had a guy dressed strictly as a fighter. They also had a good middle weight with Dallas Drake and Lilja who until his injury was pretty damn tough. Those are just scrappers though. That teams third line was Cleary Draper Drake. Not even an ounce of skill on that third line, just guys who would bust their bags with hard work and werent scared of s***. Theyw ould crash the net constantly, throw big hits and wear down the other team. Drake was the only really "tough" one but they all played a gritty game. The fourth line center was Helm before he had any responsibilities. All he would do was run around, throw hits and crash the net. No defensive responsibility hardly, and was just sent off his leash for 8 minutes a game. Mccarty flanked him and he was scared of no one. He didnt pretend to be some skill guy hanging around the perimeter, he was in everyones face, crashing the net etc. If Mac wasnt on that line then Maltby was, who was still stirring s*** up and playing physical hockey. When we won in 2008, Hudler was relegated to the fourth line because he couldnt play playoff hockey, now hes on the teams top line. Homer was also still more capable to be a crash and bang type in the top 6. So yes people continue to try to tell yourselves that this team can win with a soft line up and a bunch of pretty boys if it will help you sleep at night, be that blind fan boy that thinks the team is always built perfectly but looking at history, the wings have never won with a team like this. The 2009 team couldnt close it out even and they were much more skilled. The 2006 team that killed it was out first round. But yeah you guys are right, the wings have won before with a soft line up

Signing Parise would definitely fix a lot of the problem. The team cant score goals and hes one of the best goal scorers in the league. But more importantly, you call me overreacting then say we've been to slow the last 3 seasons? Yeah its built up for a while, this isnt a one game over reactionary thread. Watching a wings team be too scared except for one or 2 players take the puck to the net and score some ugly goals in the Joe (which should be one of the hardest rinks to play in) is pathetic

It wasnt their year because ******* like Filppula and Hudler sit at teh top of the circle flicking weak wristers at a good goalie cause no one wants to get their nose dirty. Too small and weak upfront, feels like back in the day when they had to shake up and trade for Shanny to balance some of that skill out. Nashville has a bunch of guys like Bourque who just have went to the net and got rewarded. The wings used to score like this all the time but Homer is getting older, the grind line is gone and guys like Hudler are in our top 6 ( ) Wouldnt mind seeing the wings go after Ryan Malone maybe, hes been up for trade. Babcock has wanted some more bigger, greasy type players for a while and it seemingly been a weakness for awhile. Time to see if he has the balls to address it. Bertuzzi has size but hes getting old as well. Seems like anyone who plays that style is old or broken for the wings and theyre relying on all their skill and finesse which doesnt work in the playoffs (especially out west) Hell, even throw Sheahan in on that fourth line next game in replace of Emmerton and see if he can light a little fire up there with his size. Haha we do it every year, too bad Holland wouldnt just read this site!!!
-
There was a thread on here where Holland did an interview during the 2010 season and a poster on here rewound it to see Holland holding a list of draft eligible players? Some were highlighted and they were all players slated to go around Detriots pick. I would like to look at that thread again but I cant find it at all!

At the home opener me and my brother got it going after he scored on abreakaway, it was pretty awesome
-
Its the thought that counts, Todd said if you wanna do that we arent gonna roll over and die and just let you have your way. But damn it sucks to have Bertuzzi as the only guy willing to do that anymore. Ericcson could be a good fighter if he would do it often enough to get experience, even just 5 a year he would get pretty solid at it. Abdelkader is willing but hes a middleweight. I see Chris Stewart is scratched for the blues tonight, I wouldnt mind the wings taking a risk on him witha trade this offseason. Hes a big, lazy power forward like Bert except younger and a better scrapper. He doesnt fit Hitchcocks super defensive system but he might fit into Babcocks system better. He also has the ability to score and could ride shotgun with Datsyuk. Its risky given the season he had but I think he could produce in Detroit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LqgslF5ts0 I know it cause I was at that game sitting right on the glass, it was beautiful to see live. They look so much harder in person than on youtube. And yeah I was just giving you an idea for a way to possibly make the site even more enjoyable. Throwing up a page saying other big wing hits or something and just having a random assortment of huge wing hits so that guys like me can get their fill lol. Dont blame you if you dont wanna though. Im gonna share the site on my facebook and twitter to get you some hits!
-
I didnt look so you might ave them but there are actually 2 Clowe ones. One from the regular season and the one we all know from playoffs. Also a good idea could be like a different tab for other wings big hits once you have all the Kronwall ones done. You could have just a random assortment of other big wing hits like the one Abdeklader had on Taylor Hall earlier this year or Stuart on Anisimov. Just an idea, cool website. Love the counter from the last one lol

I'm pretty sure Quine, Nedomlel and Sproul all havent played have they? The only ones I have seen actually play are Sheahan and Almqvist actually now that I think about it and I've watched probably 3 games since theyve been signed. Quine and Sproul were at the wings game Friday while Grand Rapids was playing in Toronto as well
-
Well I was just gonna ***** that the site was taken down so we wont be able to see them, but Drumnj got me with his april fools prank damnit. He set the home screen to saying it was under investigation by the department of whatever. Most of these young guys arent even playing, they arent even travelling with the team some of them. I think most are just kinda hanging around at practice and going to Detroit for some games
-
Luke Schenn will definitely be on the trade market this offseason, and with Stuart leaving does anyone think he cuold be a good trade target? Hes still really young, one of the most physical blueliners in the league and could develop into an Adam Foote type player. He looks brutal in Toronto so his value might be lower than one would expect. I think he could turn out well in Detroit with their strong development of defenseman. He wouldnt step in right away and replace Stuart but could eat some of his minutes with Smith potentially. Ericcson or Kindl plus something could get it done.
-
Hes only just getting into the pro game so I dont expect him to be that physical yet, once he adjusts a bit more he should be playing more like he was at Notre Dame where he was definitely a physical guy. He hasnt thrownn many big hits but he is already VERY good along the boards against older, pro dmen. He also has had guys try to hit him and they just bounce off. He could be a physical force in the future. I could actually see him being sort of like Bertuzzi is now. Bert is hard to get the puck off of down low, he will throw the odd big hit and can scrap when he needs to but hes no Milan Lucic. Sheahan in his prime should be a bit more physical and obviously miles ahead defensively but offensively I could see Sheahan putting up about 50 points and bring roughly the same physical game Bert brings now
-
His first goal last night was really sick, I watched the game. But in all honesty I really dont see him making any impact whatsoever. I think Conner would be the better one to bring up because he would add some speed in the lineup with Helm out and Mursak not really playing
-
His cap is only 3.6 youre off by a million lol but I dont know if I would even call it a reclamation project hes like 21 years old. Its more like just developing a young player, he would give us another physical force to patrol the blueline with Smith and Kronwall next year. If he and Smith both hit their potential they could be the top pairing in 5 years, they would compliment eachothers style well
-
This thread isnt even about fighting, just soft play in general. Everyone on here always says you dont need to fight, just get a guy back with a big, clean hit. Well did anyone even breathe on Jack Johnson after he roughed up Filppula 3 times for no reason? Where was someone actually hitting Dorsett while he cross checked Kronwall infront of our own net for half of a shift or was running around all game? If youre not gonna fight, at least have some push back to show if you wanna run around so can we, and this wings team just doesnt do it. Same posters who are against tough hockey always say the wings are fine and blah bla blah but why is Babcock subtly calling out the players to get tougher out there? "we need Mule and Bert (Todd Bertuzzi) and (Danny) Cleary and Abby (Justin Abdelkader) and (Darren) Helm, when he gets back, all the guys that are capable of being physical." “It's a physical time of the year coming (in the playoffs). The neutral zone is basically taken out of the game and you got to win the game below the tops of the circles in both zones, and those guys help you do that.'' If Babcock thought that the wings physicality was fine he wouldnt be saying s*** like this, he made a mentoin of it as one of our bigger problems in a loss against friggen columbus for gods sake
-
Its funny though, Babcock is calling out this teams physicality in an article on mlive but than if a poster or 2 say it on here its terrible and blasphemy. Guy gets a few negatives for saying what Babcock has been saying as well, go figure
-
B b bb b but for the wings to sign a tough guy he has to be able to score 30 points a year and play 15 minutes a night... eventhough emmerton provides a lot of nothing. Seriously, Dorsett is under 6 feet, runs around at the end of a blowout game than goes and has his way with the wings next game? This team had no spark last game at all, its pathetic
-
Hopefully get to see a blowout, and get to see Abdelkader punch Dorsett in the head a few times. Refs broke em up when they were gonna go last game. I dont like when the last place team in the league has a 5'11 player running around at one of the top cup contending teams late in the game...

That was me and yes it is

I remember that, something about you seeing Holland at a baseball game and he told you? A select few ripped on you for about a week until the signing was announced then they all shut up. I could see this being true. Dekeyser takes one more year in the NCAA, Kindl, Ericcson and Smith battle it out and see who needs to stay. Move one of them and bring in Dekeyser after this season -
He was kicked out of his czech junior league for being too violent. 19 points, and 221 PIMS!!! in 44 games, thats nearly 420 pims in a full NHL season lol. He still plays physical over here but its more the norm in the WHL.
-
Yeah he seems like a natural brawler. He came over from Euope and just started scrapping in the worlds toughest junior league and doing well. Sure its nice that he fights but hes a big hitter as well and I dont mind him cutting back if it means hes focussing on other parts of his game that can get him to the NHL
-
Yeah but he didnt seem to be doing nearly as much of the pugilistic type stuff this season so I'm not sure what to expect of his game. Sheahan also hasnt thrown his weight around much but is extremely solid out there already, guys hit him and they bounce off
