Talking about Cord, it says he split time between junior A and the OHL? The OHL is junior A, so it must mean he was playing tier 2 Junior A or something for a bit? I guess he could be a fighter UK seeing the PIMs he put up in those few games and the fact that he had 2 fights and 18 PIMs in 10 games in the OHL means he is probably a tough guy. Shoulda looked into it before I said he didn't seem like a tough guy.

I'm not sure how mean steaks and locker room cancer really correlate at all. Usually the guys who will go out there and fight and take one for the team are the ones that are liked the most in the dressing room.
-
Yeah actually get him on the Chelly routine or the Gary Roberts routine. Worked for Stamkos this past offseason I would say.
-
Wow I forgot that this was him completely. Thats sweet I hope he earns a contract. Yeah god forbid a guy with a mean streak plays for the wings, it sure has been a while eh.........
-
Meh Perry is a ****** but its magnified against the wings because noone ever does anything about it. I would take an 80 point guy like Perry who pisses people off and will hit and fight over someone who goes through the motions and puts up that many points. We don't get high enough picks to get these types of players.

You became a fan of a team that had guys like Probert, brought in Ulf Samuellson and Chris Chelios. Derian Hatcher was brought here. Fischer with that beauty cross check to the face in the finals. Maltby was pretty cheap. Anyone remember him putting Klesla into the open door in the bench and wrecking his knee? Avery came up on this team. Grimson was a dirty player, I was watching a clip of the 95 finals the other day and he cross checked a guy right in the head. Dino Ciccarelli slashed whoever it was in the face a couple times, that guy was crazy, absolute nut bar. Brad May was one of the dirtiest in his prime. This is the same team that just drafted Mitch Callahan and are saying they want him to be our Matt Cooke. This team is pretty classy the way they treat their players but they won't think twice about getting dirty players and are not far off from having quite a few dirty types of players on this team Right now we have no cheap players, although Abby will throw a high hit every now and then and Kronwall has left his feet before to make a hit. But this team is not far removed from having some dirty ass players on it and being a ***** of a team to play against. Right now our players are pretty classy yes, but that isn't because its been a goal of the organization, it just kinda worked out like that adn we've had plenty of dirty players the last 20 years Not just Michigan based, close to Michigan. A lot of South West Ontariens? Ontarionites? ... A lot of ppl fom South West Ontario are the exact same way. A fan of the wings is often a fan of the lions, tigers and pistons.

I'm with the general consensus here: If they moved I would cheer for another team probably. I wouldn't be cheering for the Las Vegas Red wings or anythingl ike that, thats for sure. At the same time I'm surprised to see people here say they wouldn't be a fan if this team became a team like the ducks. If they are still a very good team(ducks are despite what a lot of ppl think)no matter if they play puck possession or goon hockey how could you not be fans. You guys must not have been around in the 80's or 90's and somewhat early 2000's I'm guessing and then starting liking them as they took up the style they have now?
-
Exactly haha. My girlfriends nephew is 4 and his Dad like me is a die hard Detroit fan. He doesn't know a thing about hockey but he does know that the Red Wings are the good guys and the Maple Leafs are the bad guys. Thats usually how it gets started, then once you start playng and get old enough to watch you realize your family likes them so you do too.

Yeah thats the what I mean. Physical players will see other guys making big hits and want to join in and not be out done. If this Aubry guy is given time to fill out his playing weight will be somewhere around 215 pounds at least I would think, he could be a wrecking ball. If he starts plastering guys he will probably end up fighting more too. Kinda like Jean Francois Jaques in Edmonton or whatever his name is. The guy has grown so ridiculously fast who knows if he's even done yet, he might still grow an inch. Filling a bottom 6 with guys his size that will hit would make our bottom 6 very effective.
-
We drafted some size this draft which I like but this guy could develop into a real solid 3rdline center and I don't see anyone talking about it. He's 6'4, one of our, if not the biggest forward in the system and seems like he uses it. He led his team in hits last year, didn't put up a huge number of them but still led his squad. Also said he loves blocking shots etc. Seems like a heart and soul type guy, once he grows into that 6'4 frame (I read he was drafted to juniors at 5'11 and grew to 6'4) since he hasn't had much time to yet, he could be a physical force, he'll probably be well over 200 pounds when he comes to the NHL and maybe get a bit meaner since he wants to find a niche in the NHL. He was good enough to play in the top prospects game, and had 3 fights too boot last year. I really like this pick, what do you guys think about him?
-
Thats what I'm imagining for him. About 70 points or so maybemore but he's also strong defensively so maybe a selke tossed in there. I'm hoping this guy can fill the shoes of aging Dats or Z

Being raised in Canada, you like the team your dad likes. You are brain washed at a young age and thats usually how it happens. For most of the people I know anyways. The wings are so close to Canada though as well, like you can take the tunnel bus and its a 5 minute walk just about from customs to the Joe, so its almost like they are in Canada. And to top it all off Canada has had some of its best players all time play for the wings. Yzerman(best captain ever), Howe (best power forward and most well rounded player all time), Shanny (probably second best power forward all time), and of course Sheahan Detroits largest draft pick in the last 50 years or so
-
Like a true Canadian. I think Nash is the only basketball player that has ever had a feature on coach's corner so its Steve or nothing
-
Yeah we might be able to get a 4th round pick or something. After last season I think his stock is the highest it has been since he has been in the NHL. Now is a good time to trade him, I wish we coulda done it at the draft for another pick.
-
Yeah it would be better for the team to have guys like that but in an interview Nill said he was looking for guys to fill the May/Downey role and that they had some free agents in mind. That tells me they don't wanna spend that much cash on someone like Asham and would rather have more of a straight up enforcer that costs less.
-
They have a bit too much trade worth to just have them sitting in the press box. We could get an alright return for Miller.
-
I don't think so. 125 hits is enough that you can say he is a pretty physical player. When you put a physical player on a physical team they next to never become less physical, they usually thrive. Notice how Ericcson in the AHL with a tougher team and Abdelkader with a tougher team had more fights. The whole Philly hockey team is the same way. Tougher teams make players tougher not softer.
-
I just found out something interesting about this guy as well. He had 125 hits last season which is pretty solid. BUT noone else on his team had more then 69. He played on a team with a bunch of ******* is basically what I'm getting from this. You put him on an intense team with guys to back him and throw their weight a bit and I bet his hit totals go up quite a bit. Wait for him to be in the AHL and he'll have to use hi size or he'll be eaten alive.

Anyone else hear Mackenzie talking about how dynamic Nyquist is and how great he is going to be in the future for the red wings on the TSN draft coverage? I think it was after we took Pullkinen, he was saying how we got 2 4th round steals in Nyquist and Pulkinen who should both be big time players in the future.
-
I really don't think "Miller" fixed our PK. I think it was the fact that the wings signed some role players who knew they needed to find a niche to stay on the team that fixed our PK. Eaves and Miller both knew they weren't going to be scorers and since Miller doesn't hit, fight or score so he knew he had to do something. We could sign any average role player in this league and he would PK just as well as Miller, as wings fans we're just to used to seeing our stars get burnt out on the PK and every other special teams so once we see a guy who fills a pretty average role we really think he provides something special. He did well in his role but he was pretty average league wide and Eaves and Helm were better PKers I think.
-
Nice, thanks. Seems like he is strong and uses that strength down low. A true power forward finally. I've been waiting for a big, Canadian power forward for a while. He's not as mean as I would like but I'm still happy with him. I really hope he makes the world junior team. We had a few years there where we had prospects playing in the world juniors for Canada but haven't for a while now. Meech, Pyett, Helm all played for Canada all right in a row pretty much and Abby played against Helm that year. Would love to see Ferraro have a good start to the season and both he and Sheahan end up on the team.
-
I don't think pre moore bert is likely here. Maybe more so for Sheahan then this guy. I'm thinking this guy might end up like a bigger version of Abdelkader really. Both were physical in their draft year but I don't think Abby was regarded as big of a hitter as he is today(could be wrong) and both played in not as physical leagues in College and the Q. Now I expect as Aubry grows into his body more, he'll be throwing the weight more since he is already physical, maybe fight a bit more and be strong on the PK etc. I'm thinking this guy is going to have to get meaner to make the NHL, I'm saying 5 fights next year as a bigger, heavier guy. I also like that he is a very strong skater.
-
So has anyone seen this guy play? Does he use his size and play a power forward type of game/play physical while putting up points and being strong defensively?
-
I would say that about a player from a small hockey area in Europe like where Datsyuk was from or from a lower league in Sweden. But Minnesota high school is scouted a lot they had like 3 guys go first round. Just doesn't make sense, could've added some size to the org.
-
Yeah it looks very similar to the one above mine. If he was that skilled he probably would have gotten noticed by other teams since hes from NA and thats where most of the scouts are. Maybe Hakan didn't have anyone in mind for this pick, but really there musta been some goon or something we coulda taken over this guy.
