4th Round Pick (111), Teemu Pulkkinen

Looking like we could have a 40 goal scorer here if he hits his potential and stays healthy? I can't believe we got him this late. I can't believe Toronto doesn't pick a ghuy like this or Kabanov. Drafting Sam Carrick and Brad Ross isn't giving them anything they don't have in their system and isn't improving them at all.

I doubt they take a goalie, I thought in an interview one of the guys said they weren't looking for a goalie. Take a mean defenseman, a Callahan type forward and take one of those classic Hakan homerun picks with the last one. I don't like puck moving defenseman at this point in the draft really, get some more grit into the system since we got 3 potential top 6 players already and our pure sniper in Pulkinen.

Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

I wouldlove to get rid of Miller, Meech and Ritola. Sign someone like Konopka or Boogard then add like a Nystrom/Winchester type.

Wow borderline 1st round talent in the 4th round. So far I'm loving this draft. Big canadian powerforward type, skilled swede who if he bulks up could be sick, another big canadian who seems fairly gritty and had a few fights last year, loves blocking shots and crashing the net. Then they get a steal with htis guy who should've been gone by the early second

Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

Our 4th line didn't even play 10 minutes a night last year but if we get a fighter he has too? He doesn't take stupid penalties especially give his style of play, hes one of the smarter guys in the game. I've seen guys like Orr roughing him up but Boogard won't hit him back because his team is leading by a goal etc. Not every single player on the team kill spenalties either. Its a plus but we have Helm, Eaves, Cleary, Abby, Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Flip. If we have one guy on the 4th line who plays the least amount of time in a night that can't kill penalties thats fine with me. All teh stuff you said is a plus but youre saying things that not all the guys on our 4th line could do last year AND you want them to fight.

Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

So what is everyones take on Boogard? With him training with Pav and all I'm sure hes being considered by Holland for the right price. I wasn't really sure if I wanted a guy like him but I was watching some videos and he really seems to be a better player then given credit for. He hits more then he fights, theres a great video of him running over Brashear. If he can do that to other teams toughguys what must that make the rest of the other team think? He'll fight anyone and win against all of them and is one of the few actually intimidating guys left in the league. He's a better skater then May or Downey and with his size (6'6?) thats something to write home about and he can keep a cycle going after he runs over the other teams defenseman.

1st Round Pick (21), Riley Sheahan

Okay if you want a source go google that or something? It happened and theyve been talking about it a lot when talking about the draft. Its a HUGE reason as to why hes been slipping. You probably don't get all the hockey stations in Finland or something so you don't see the shows where they talk about the draft maybe?

1st Round Pick (21), Riley Sheahan

My friend goes to the gym twice a day for a couple of hours in the offseason. He's not allowed to have a break from his crazy workout routine on weekends by having some beers with his friends? Especially in the offseason, I can't see how drinking would affect you any worse then eating fast food or something like that. For all we know this couldve been this guys first time drinking and he didn't know how to hide it so he got busted.

1st Round Pick (21), Riley Sheahan

His teammates in Moncton basically kicked him off the team. He was demanding more minutes and threatening to go back to Russia. Monctons team basically said, we'll help pack your bags if you want to leave. Thats a locker room cancer at its finest and the biggest reason I didn't want to draft Kabanov in the first round.

1st Round Pick (21), Riley Sheahan

Because when they are 17 you really expect them to not drink? A kid who I played on a line with last year is playing with the london knights this season, had 44 goals in like 40 games last season and he still drinks. One of my better friends growing up as a kid, lives 3 minutes down the road, plays for the Sarnia Sting, he'll drink and will throw in a lipper at a party. As long as they aren't drinking the night before a game who really cares? It seems like the same people who throw this guy under the bus for drinking are the same ones who say "Oh Kabanov was just a young kid when he was a dick to his teammates and allt hat will change" I think being a locker room cancer is much worse then drinking, but some people would rather have alocker room cancer then someone who drinks as a kid.

1st Round Pick (21), Riley Sheahan

When they were talking to him they said he liked the physical part of the game and playing gritty as well. I always like that, anyone know if he has a good physical and plays the body a lot or is he just more of a strong in the corners type of guy? Can't complain, 6'2 200+ pounds and from somewhat near my hometown and from the town my university is in. Much better pick then Kabanov i must say

You sure made it seem like there is no risk. Calling me retarded because I dont wanna see another high end prospect stay overseas for a career. You hardly have risks with NA prospects about playing in the NHL, you don't often see them skipping to the KHL for the money or anything like that. Its fine if players wanna do that but I dont want people who have a higher chance thenothers in ths organization when we can still get very good players with no risk of them playing inRussia

    2010 NHL Draft Thread

No if you don't think there is a risk of Russian players going to the KHL then you are the retarded one. Hmm I wonder why all the pro scouting associations have him ranked not even in the first round? If he's got such a high skill set then you would think he would be top 3 or 4 but wait hes in the second round. Oh yeah hes a locker room cancer and has risk of going to the KHL because he is russian. But Detroit isn't some godly organization that can change players. Look at Ryno, Axelson,Larson and Hudler for that matter And I'm high on Mcilrath because he is ranked almost 15 spots higher by central scouting then Kabanov. And is being projected as a number 2 or 3. How many games have you seen by either player? I guarantee the scouts have seen a hell of a lot more. How many interviews have you conducted with each player? I guarantee you the scouts have done more. Trust me I think these scouts know more about the players then you do, but go ahead and keep thinking you have some insight into Kabanovs head and that he will be the next Datsyuk, but the scouts think otherwise. You know the ones who are paid to look at the players? I dont think there is much risk in taking a European from every country except Russia and you are stupid to think there isn't a risk there. I'm also sick of seeing guys bolt back to Europe on this organization, Two of our best prospects and our next best goalie just did it as well as a roster player who can put up some points. Kabanov won't do us any good with his "high skill" if he's using it for Moscow Dynamo or some other team like that Yeah I wouldn't mind a trade down. Pick up a skill guy then have an early second pick and take Tinordi or Petrovic. As for Callahan he's not going to be nothing more then a 4th liner, Ross has some skill and could be a good piece to a 3rd line.

    2010 NHL Draft Thread

Depending on who they take in the first round I want them to take Brad Ross in the second. If they get someone like Tinordi/Mcilrath in the first then Ross won't really matter but if they do end up taking someone like SKinner/Kabanov/Etem etc I really want them to take Ross

If you wanna take a risk with someone who doesn't have the mental tools take it with Macfarland. His skill set is right up there with Kabanov but the difference is to go along with Kabanovs mental issues he has the chance of going to the KHL. We at least know Macfarland won't dothat and he could be an elite talent as well. His skill set is right up there with anyone in the draft but he's slipping probably. Its not so much the prima donna attitude of Kabanov that bugs me but its the KHL/Russian factor that does.

Yeah something isn't right about that list.
  19. If they move down I doubt itll be the whole way to the second round. Theres a big difference in the first round between players that are taken 10 picks apart. 2 seconds is not worth moving down 10 picks they might move down to 25 or something like that pus a second.

    Evgeni Ryasenski

Has anyone ever seen this guy play or what? Sounds like he likes to hit but he might just be saying that and actually sucks at it or something. Either way if he likes the physical side and is willing to play in GR then I like him.
  21. Its been since the 80's that the Bears won a superbowl so sure you have a decent team but not exactly championship upon championship. The pistons are one of the most successful teams in basketball this past decade. The tigers have been successful, went to the world series in 2006 if I'm correct. How have those cubs been? Chicago's only somewhat consistent team is the Bears and even they havent won a championship in how long? We have the best hockey dynasty the last 20 years and one of the best in basketball the past decade. Our only bad team is the lions.
  22. Detroit -- It's not like the Red Wings have the NHL equivalent of a lottery pick this year; it just feels like it. They will pick 21st in the NHL draft Friday night in Los Angeles, the second-highest draft pick they've had in 20 years. "We're pretty excited about it," general manager Ken Holland said. "Other than after the work-stoppage year (2005, when the draft order was selected from a blind lottery) when we had the 19th pick (Jakub Kindl), this is as high as we've drafted in a long time. We're usually picking from 25 to 30." The philosophy, though, does not change. Advertisement "It's the old cliché, but we will look at the best player available at that time," Holland said. "It will probably be a skater; I don't see us taking a goaltender. But with us, regardless of the draft position, the player we draft is a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years away. So you just want to draft an asset and hope he'll be ready five years from now." 'Intriguing' draft class Both Holland and assistant general manager Jim Nill said they weren't targeting a specific position. They feel the organization depth is solid both up front and on the blue line. "This is one of the most I don't want to say difficult but one of the most intriguing draft classes we've seen in a while," Nill said. "Every draft class has 10 to 15 no-brainers, then it usually drops off. There are usually another 30 players that you like but each has some major flaw." The trick, Nill said, is trying to project which players will overcome those flaws in three to five years. "We are always looking to get bigger up front, but you look at it, there could be eight to 10 skilled, little forwards available to us," Nill said. "At one time, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk were skilled, little forwards and they worked out pretty good. "There could also be eight to 10 defensemen who are 6-3 or 6-4. All have something you love but only one is going to be a Shea Weber. Which one is it? "Of the 30 players who we might consider, three or four will be high-end players. It's our job to figure out which one." Holland did not rule out the possibility of the Wings moving up or down in the first round, according to how things shake out before they pick at 21. "It's just a gut instinct on Friday night," Holland said. "If all of a sudden somebody we really like starts to slide, we could get aggressive and try to move up. Or, if there are three or four guys we like still available, maybe we trade down to get a few more spins at the wheel. The more picks you get over time, the better your odds are." Future Wings? Here's a list of players the Red Wings will consider with the 21st pick Friday. They are listed in order of their prospects ranking by the Hockey News. 9. Nick Bjugstad , Blaine, Minn., 6-4, 188, center: He was Minnesota preps Mr. Hockey and he's bound for the University of Minnesota. Big, strong and extremely raw. 11. Derek Forbort , Duluth, Minn., 6-5, 198, defenseman: He played on the U.S. under-18 team and drew comparisons to Buffalo D Tyler Myers. He's a big kid who can move the puck. 14. Valdimir Tarasenko , Russia, 5-11, 200, right wing: Some scouts have said he's the most talented player in the draft, but his commitment to play in the KHL lowers his value. 15. Austin Watson , Ann Arbor, 6-3, 185, right wing: After a year-and-a-half with the Windsor Spitfires, Watson was traded to Peterborough. He has some grit to his game, as well. 18. Evgenyi Kuznetsov , Russia, 6-0, 174, center: Streaky but highly skilled. Signed to play in the KHL the next two seasons, but that won't deter Wings. 19. Riley Sheahan , St. Catherines, Ont., 6-2, 202, center: He didn't produce much offense at Notre Dame as a freshman, but he earned raves from scouts for his defensive acumen. 21. Tyler Pitlick , Centerville, Minn., 6-2, 194, center: A rugged, grinder-type player, he is expected to leave Minnesota State and play in the Western Hockey League next year. 22. Jarred Tinordi , Millersville, Md., 6-5, 205, defenseman: He's the son of former NHL D Mark Tinordi, and he inherited his father's feistiness. Fortunately, he skates far better than dad. 31. Jon Merrill , Brighton, 6-3, 198, defenseman: Projects to be a solid, safe-playing defensive defenseman, which every team covets. 40. Tyler Toffoli , Scarborough, Ont., 6-0, 183, right wing: Another of those small, skilled forwards Jim Nill talked about. Not a great skater, though. 45. Justin Faulk , St. Paul, Minn., 6-0, 196, defenseman: An offensively skilled D-man, he will play at University of Minnesota-Duluth next season. From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20100624/OPINION03/6240329/1128/sports0103/Red-Wings-pumped-to-pick-21st-in-draft#ixzz0rnQ52ECC Sounds to me like the wings wanna get some size in the system since the pick is fairly high. There will be guys at that position who are 6'4 like he was saying. He also said that thing about who will be the next Shea Weber, makes you wonder if he's looking at a defenseman like that.
  23. newfy

Sounds like the wings are looking for size

Thats exactly what Mcilrath will be like. He is even meaner then Fischer and is about on par I would say offensively from seeing Fisch play and reading/watching Mcilrath. Its a really good comparison.

Panthers Looking to Deal 1st Round Pick

I've seen enough of him to say bye bye if there is a guy worth picking at 15 that has slipped a bit. He never had any kind of scoring touch in the AHL and had one nice little deke while he was up here. Other then that nothing really special.
  25. newfy

Sounds like the wings are looking for size

Why is it a better chance with us? They would be stuck in the AHL longer which would probably make them wanna head home and play for more money. They would also get less ice time for the first bit which would make them wanna head home too. To top it all off, we have proof that guys from our team will bolt to Russia because Hudler just did it. I don't see why there is a better chance of them working out here, in fact given the facts I think there is less chance. We only have Datyuk as well so not exactly a strong Russian influence on the team to convince them to stay.
