Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

I could see him trading him for a draft pick or swappig prospects with someone. There isn't really a need tot rade for grit when we could easily get it this year in free agency.

    Cap to $59.64 million?

Yeah just because guys played good for us doesn't mean they deserve to be here for an extended time. Miller was picked up off waivers because we were hurting on injuries and then played well. He didn't play well enough to say he deserves to be here and sacrifice makign this team tougher to play against when Miller brings absolutely nothing to the table at all.

    Cap to $59.64 million?

We have about 5.5 million in cap space now I believe. I doubt we'll tie up more then 3 million in our RFA's. So probably about 2 million for another roster player assumign we sign all our RFA's. If Miller is gone we'll have a bit more.

    Cap to $59.64 million?

July 1st definitely got more exciting now. The cap is almost at 60 million and they were thinking 58 at the most. No reason to not sign someone tough now and still have cap room

Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

I don't think theyll just throw him away this offseason without seeing what he can really do. He isn't scared to be physical but its not like hes a big hitter or anything he just doesn't get scared to go in corners or engage down low basically. 42 points isn't really much in the AHL after 3 years.
  6. His 6'6 frame isn't going to make him much tougher as a hitter then Mcilrath in his 6'4 frame that he is still filling into. There isn't a lot of ways to measure toughness. Its pretty much hitting, fighting and taking punishment like Homer or shot blocking. Fromw hat I've read theyre pretty even in the hitting regard but Mcilrath is the toughest fighter in the toughest league besides teh AHL or NHL. So I think its fair to say Mcilrath is tougher.

    Cap to $59.64 million?

If I remember correctly they were thinking it would go up to 58 million at the most. I could be wrong though. This suddenly makes a guy like Nystrom a bit more of a possibility.

I would hope miller is first and foremost. Then Ritola. I seem to remember an interview where Babcock wasn't overly impressed with Ritola or something last season. I could be wrong though.
  9. If youre saying we have a better shot at Tinordi then I completely agree. But to say he will be better then Mcilrath offensively right now is not true. He isn't projected to be offensive at all. Mcilrath is said to have some untapped offense. And yes because he was picked the toughest fighter in the WHL this year(the toughest jr league) and teh fact that he hits like a mack truck he is tougher. I know Tinordi hits hard as well, but Mcilrath is tougher all around. Yeah but Stuart never panned out to what he was supposed to be like. I'm saying Mcilrath if he meets what he is expected to be will be what Stuart is right about now offensively. Stuart went like 3rd overall, he didn't quite turn out as offensively gifted as he was projected. Yeah I've read that he has attitude problems as well. I've only seen him play a couple times but he can fly out there and has a very high talent level. If he screws his head on right he could turn into a number one center in the future for us. Fromw hat you saw was he a pretty physical player as well? Big hitter or what?
  10. I don't think the wings prefer college guys that can develop. They prefer college guys that can develop because they pick later then this usually so the guys need more seasoning. I think if it comes down to Mcilrath or Tinordi they aren't going to draft Tinordi because he is heading to college next year.

    Zenon Konopka

It sounds great to me. Replace Miller, a guy who doesn't hit or do anything physical at all for someone like Konopka on the 4th line. Abdelkader is going to be up next season anyways so he can play the PK in place of Miller. Babcock already said he is going to be a penalty killer next season from the get go. Konopka is still relatively young too, 29 I think, so we would have a guy for the next few seasons at at least instead of going season by season signing an old washed up player.
  12. Tinordi isn't projected to have hardly any offense whatsoever. Mcilrath they are saying has an offensive side that he could develop. At the very most, Tinordi and Mcilrath are even offensively. They are the same player with Mcilrath being tougher and probably a bit better defensively since he's ranked so much higher then Tinordi.

Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

I wouldn't mind seeing the wings swap Millers rights to the jackets for the rights to boll. Or I would do something like Meech and the 5th round pick from Philly for Boll. Heck the jackets might just take the 5th rounder for Boll.

This right here is exactly true. This year is one of the better free agent groups in a while available to sign some toughness. Holland could make a run at guys like Nystrom, Burish, Asham and other guys like that. Or if he wants a heavyweight type theres guys like Konopka, Boogard, Boulton etc. He says in a cap world its not a necessity or whatever, but these type of players are usually the cheapest in the league. Konopka could probably be had for about 800k. Drop Miller, Sign Konopka and we're set.
  15. Yeah, thats why some are projecting Mcilrath to be a top 10 pick and Tinordi is going late first at best. I'm really scratching my head as to how you could say Tinordi would be better. Theyre the same type of player, Mcilrath is just better at that style.

Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

The thing with Boll is that he can fight anyone in the league as well as hit just as hard or harder then Abby. Thats what he brings to the team that other people don't. A guy like Asham doesn't really bring anything that this team doesn't have already either. I'm not saying I wouldn't want Asham but he'll be more expenisive and won't be as tough on the forecheck or as tough of a fighter. He's more of a third line guy, Boll would be a really good 4th line guy since he can skate, hits and will fight anything.
  17. Mcilrath does have some decent offensive upside, probably to be around what Brad Stuart is like. Plus he's as mean as Pronger, and as tough as Carkner. He's the type of guy who might not put up points but you match him up against the opposing teams top forward and he'll run him through the glass all game. He obviously has talent if some people have him going top 10. I'm still thinking John Macfarland at center could be a real possibility. He's getting Brendan Morrow comparisons and who wouldn't love a guy like Morrow on the red wings?

    Nathan Horton traded to Boston

A Horton Savard Lucic line would be pretty scary. @ big, tough power forwards that can both score with one of the best playmakers in the game. Or even put Seguin in the middle of them. Boston is going to be great next season.

    Zenon Konopka

Where did that quote come from? And how old is it? Because thats pretty damn good news to me. If he does want to sign a free agent enforcer, Konopka should be the guy. He'll be cheap, and provides some elements this team could use. Good on faceoffs, good defensively and the most active fighter in the NHL. This offseason we have a choice between the most active fighter in the league or the scariest and toughest. Konopka or Boogard... I would rather Konopka. He has a sentimental side He'll fight anyone which is something I like. If its a small guy running around like an idiot he'll stop them or if its another heavyweight like Neil that he hates he'll fight them

    Wings sign Ilari Filppula 1yr/$500k

Yeah got forbid someone wants a player that can score over 20 goals at like the age of 22 and also can hit and fight well. That would be horrible for this team. I don't talk up NA players, i talk up tyough players. This team needs some hard hitters and some tougher players tyo really be the best ethy can br. Its just more often then not the tuogher guys available are Na players. Sorry that I wanna see some grit on this team, I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat,.

    Nathan Horton

Mule has played with guys like Datsyuk and Zetterebrg the whole time he has been scoring for the wings and they are definitely superior to Jokinen. Horton has put up more then 60 points twice and mule never has they also have another season where mule got 59 and Horton 57. Mule is a great player but Horton is better. If you gave Horton Dats on his line he would score tonnes of goals. Mule is the man in the playoffs though so he has the edge there. Horton hasn't proved anything there. Also if I made any mistakes or anything in this post I;m slightly drunk right now so dont haold it against me.

Guys who have been in the NHL for a few seasons being coached by the ebst coaches in the world might. Franzen is an example of this but this isn't what the situation being discussed is like. I think you get what I'm trying to say thank god haha

Okay so now when we talk about a player signed by the wings potential we aren't referring to his potential with the wings, its about his potential in other leagues? Okay I'm done talking about this, yeah Iflip has potential to be a great player for a junior c hockey team, so in theory you are right and I am wrong because he has potential to play Ontario Junior C hockey. My apologies Finnish wing.

    Wings sign Ilari Filppula 1yr/$500k

No people said he doesn't like contact as soon as we first signed him, thats where I'm getting that from. People need to stop with the Newfy ahtes Euro's s*** because I don't, I hate soft players. Wherever theyre from. Yeah Drake how many season did he play in the NHL, being trained by one of the best coaching staffs in the world before finally hitting his stride. Mule was still even younger then Iflip when he started scoring in the NHL. And that was after 2 seasons in the NHL. The Mule comparison doesn't work here people, he played 2 NHL seasons before he started scoring at age 27. Iflip isn't going to play a role in the NHL until he is 30.
