I'm with you on this one. An injury isn't just caused by the guy getting hit in the head Are you going to suspend the ice or the boards as well after a head shot if the guy hits his head off it and is injured for a year? I think a combination of a new rule and removing the instigator would be the best way to prevent stuff like this. I can guarantee Matt Cooke would've thought twice about that hit if he knows at any time he could get his face punched in. The aggressor penalty never gets called, if it did Mac woulda got it against Turtle since he was kneeing him in the face after all. If you combined players knowing they wold get hte s*** kicked outta them with the fact that they would probably get suspended with no pay, I think they would slow down on the dirty hits.

Hossa has consistently scored 40 a year pretty much his whole career, it doesn't matter who he plays with. Horton has been stuck in Florida with noone to set him up, is young and a natural goal scorer with untapped potential. He pretty much puts up 30 a year. Horton is better then Franzen, he can put up as many goals as Franzen playing with scrubs, and he's tougher then Franzen too. The mule in playoffs might be a different story but regualr season Horton would be superior. Give him 2 years and he would probably be scoring 40-50 goals with Datsyuk.

Most team have a guy with Berts skill making a lot more money and the guys who make 1.5 are good 3rd and 4th line grinders pretty much. Look through every team and thats what its like, its not just a few examples its just a few that I listed.

Yeah but you realize Flip is a year older with a career high 40 points so far as well. Kindl has shown that he will be nothing special in this league to date and the draft is fairly weak this year. Maybe if we had a 4th round pick or something coming our way it would be a bit better but kindl flip and a first isn't that ig of an overpayment. Horton playing on Datyuks wing would probably have him score 50 goals, he's a natural scorer, something the wings don't have much of.

Kotalik makes 3 mil less points then Bert last year Chris Neil 2 Mil Jarko Ruttu the same as Bert last year Reinprecht 2 mil, less points then Bert last year Clutterbuck 1.4 mil Steve Bernier 2 mil Kris Kunitz makes almost 4 mil. All these guys put up less points then Bert last year but have similar or much higher contracts. Bert at 1.5 is a huge bargain. Guys like CLutterbuck Mayers and Ruutu making pretty much the same as Bert kinda shows that market value for guys like that is right around there. I think its fair to say Bert market value is higher then guys like this.

To the people saying he should've taken a pay cut need to check out Mayers salary. He's making 1.4, Bert made 1.5 last year, theres no way Bert should be making less then Mayers.

Miller sucks. Eaves is decent. Cleary was putting on an almost conn smythe worthy playoff run 2 years ago. Cleary has been hurt 2 seasons, he played through 2 torn meniscus this season and was still abetter player then Miller, and last Stanley cup finals he played through a torn groin and broken hand. Yeah I think he brings something the other 2 don't....

Holmstrom as a 25 goal scorer was the biggest contract steal signing I've seen in a long time. Bert isn't worth more to this team then Homer but around the league Bert is at a steal price. Franzen is signed til hes 75 so his cap hit isn't relevant.

If I were the sharks I would rather have a young, unproven guy that just won a championship, then a guy who has played with them for years and continually "proven" he is a playoff choke artist.

Yeah a guy like Konopka for a 600k salary maybe. In 08 we were respectably tough and never really got pushed around with Downey and Drake. With Abby and someone like Konopka we would have a respectable 2 guys to stick up for the team again. Plus if Ericcson would man up more this year our team wouldn't be ran at at all.

Yeah but they also took time in the NHL and became accustomed to the North american game for a couple of years before they hit their stride around the age 28. Filpulla is going to take time to adjust for a season or 2 then he'll be 30 so he will be on the decline pretty much right when he hits his stride. At 28 with no NHL experience or North American experience its doubtful that this guy will get much better at all. Sorry I didn't realize that there is something in the Finnish water that makes their players get considerably better at age 28. He's halfway done his prime with no NHL or North American experience so he hardly has any potential. Oh it was finnish wing and this is a finnish player of course the player has lots of "potential"

Good. About time we had someone with an attitude on this team. I hope we sign him, he's a big hitter, fights and can score. A prime Dallas Drake.

Laraque refused to fight guys smaller then him when Montreal said he needs ts tart policing more. He's a guy who just fights off faceoffs against other goons in meaningless fights. We need a guy who will fight anyone that throws a cheapshot not someone like Laraque who will only fight other goons off a faceoff. If laraque qould fight smaller guys and just people who deserve it then he would be perfect.

Well its been since 2008 I guess when we had Drake, but he was invisible most of the season except for a few fights. Next year we'll either sign a more Drake type guy like Nystrom, Burish or Winchester or more of an enforcer type like Konopka, Jackman or Barch Those guys are grinder tough guy types, not Freddy fricken Modin.

Prorated doesn't count for anything in stats. Its either he did or didn't put them up not, well I tihnk he could've since if you prorate it he has 52. Flip is a good player no doubt but he is yet to prove he is a consistent offensive contributor on this team.

Goalies are a different story then forwards. Forwards take the least amount of time to develop and goalies take the longest. Howard is 26 and just coming into the NHL for gods sake. There are a lot of leagues that are very close to the NHL, but if he's 28, never played in the NHL he hardly has anytime to adjust to the hockey before he's on the decline physically. At 28 your potential is tapped out. Having him as the 12 or 13 forward iss tupid too. We don't need a soft play maker trying to set up guy like Draper, Meech or Miller. Those guys need someone to get in hard on tehf orecheck with them and grind down low.

If he put up the same points as this year but started laying the body down low a bit more he would for sure be worth this contract. I dunno if he has it in him but it seemed in the playoffs he got a bit meaner. Wouldn't mind seeing him fight a couple times either.

I'll take your word for it, I like him as a player but didn't really want him here anyways. I want a younger, more fresh guy like Nystrom. Youre from Alberta so whats your take on Nystrom?

I guarantee you he still has that same mind set, over the course of three years you don't just become a huge ***** all of a sudden. He may be a bit older but he's still a warrior.

Offensively, defensively, and on the PK they will be pretty much even. Theyre the same age I'm pretty sure, but Nystrom provides that Dallas Drake type presence and the same scoring as Miller would. Miller doesn't hit and we need one more guy like that besides Abby to really have a punishing team. Nystrom fights too and probably has some untapped offensive potential yet since last year was his first full season and he was a 10th overall pick. Miller isn't bad but him and Eaves are just so similar it seems dumb to have both of them when you could have another element brought to the team for 500k more.

I tihnk Edmonton just wants to start fresh so they are considering buying out some scape goats.
