Newly Signed Brendan Smith Charged With Disorderly Conduct
newfy replied to RedFX's topic in General
It depends what his blood alcohol level was. If he had a couple beers then drove his moped( not a 2 tonne vehicle or something like that) home then he just got unlucky. A couple drinks can get you a DUI but its not something I would be seriously worried about hjis character guys. If he was wasted and hanging off the side of his moped thats a different story -
Newly Signed Brendan Smith Charged With Disorderly Conduct

Smith is gonna be a really god player. He's going to have at least number 3 talent and I expect since he's out of college hockey he'll develop more of a nasty side to his game. He beat Greenop in a fight before and Greenop is one tough Mofo -
A fight at a party isn't a really big deal at all. Someone probably thought they would take on the new pro and see if they could beat up a future NHLer. Hopefully Smith tuned him in pretty good.

Anywhere around 850K would be a decent deal for Burish.
-
I think Nystrom is abetter fit then Burish as well but he's got a lot more talent. I figured we would be able to squeeze Burish in under the cap better. With all his injuries this season he will come very cheap I would expect.
-
I still think if Burish came to a new team he would really want to prove himself. Not to mention he's like 26 so he'll probably still be hungry for more cups and we can have a fairly tough guy for years to come instead of the typical come here for a year then retire tough guys we're used to.
-
Oh god, imagine watching that line play. Burish and Abdelakder would combine for like at least 25 fights and Eaves isn't scared to stick his nose in there, not to mention all of them are pretty big hitters. I would love watching that line play.
-
Yeah Burish definitely doesn't have a scoring touch, but Holland is looking for someone relatively cheap that can play a 4th line role. Burish wasn't healthy at all this season, he played only like 13 games so he might come cheaper then he normally would've. When he was healthy the year before he played 9:12 a game, and 2 minutes of shorthanded time per game. So he can kill penalties, play a regular shift for a 4th liner and he had 16 fights. Looks like the guy to me. Its gotta be either Burish or Nystrom that we sign.

Yeah people who think Stajan is a good center haven't watched a lot of TO games. He is serviceable but he's invisible some nights and others he can be solid. White was a good all around defenseman but its not like he has amazing upside o brings anything special to his team. Phaneuf has the potential to be a norris candidate or possible winner down the road, put up 60 points and be one of the meanest defenseman in the league. The trade for Phaneuf was a good one for the rebuild of TO

http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospectbrowse.htm Theres a link to the NHL final rankings. So looking at this now who do people see the wings taking. Macfarland has slipped quite a bit and it would be awesome if he somehow ended up still around when the wings pick. Howden is a big kid, good on the PK and could be someone detroit is looking at. Of course Mcilrath is projected to go right around the wings pick and we all know how sweet it would be if they got him. Watson may end up going to the wings but his stock has really risen the last part of the season so he might go higher. Hes a big hitter, great penalty killer and he is big. Wings could use him. Oh and he's from Michigan as well. Merril is a wings type player. Puck moving defenseman. They may end up taking him but I really doubt they do, thats not what our farm needs right now. Oh and Kabanov has dropped outta the first round so I don't see the wings taking him So now that we have the final rankings, what do you guys think will happen? My ideal scenario would have us landing one of Macfarland, Watson or Mcilrath. Our system has no stay at home d men or good power forwards, this draft we have 3 guys that fit what we need that should be going right around where we pick.

TSN has great ongoing coverage and a live blog all about the combine. Bob Mackenzie was on there earlier answering questions and giving updates.

Yeah and its fine if a good player can fight well but barely ever does but the fact that he can if he wants to adds a whole new dimension to his game. He's went a few pretty tough guys this year in the OHL and done well. Its kinda like Chara, he's one tough SOB but hardly fights, just when he does watch out if youre on the other end.(not saying Lashoff will be that good obviously) As for Abdelkader, I think we'll see him fight a lot this upcoming season since he'll be bottom 6 and Babcock wants him to fight. He'll for sure have that dimension of his game, especially while he's young and breaking into the league.
-
My brother has been to parties that Stamkos was at in Sarnia and said he was the cockiest guys he's met. Cocky isn't bad at all, cocky just got 51 goals this season. Lashoff is the next Brad Stuart(kinda). He's big and hits hard but also has a bit of hands to him as well, I really think Lashoff is going to be good too. Now if he added some fighting to his book of tricks then he would be an even better prospect But seriously the guy can fight too he just doesn't do it much, maybe we'll see that change in GR
-
He's as solid as you can expect from a bottom pairing guy. Better then Lebda, better then what Lilja was when he came here and probably better then Kindl (right now anyways)
-
Right now with this team I'm not exactly picky with if they bring a tough guy who wears a visor or not. I've seen him ditch it before his fights before and even if he didn't its better then nothing. He's a tough customer for sure and has some size, he's like 6'1 215 pounds. Not bad at all if you ask me. I would welcome him with open arms.

This post is dead on -
I would say this year Tampa Bay was my second favourite team after watching Stamkos play in Sarnia pretty much every game he was there. Now that Stevie is there I guess it seals the deal for me.
-
I'm sure this is why his physical game was lacking compared to usual as well. He just didn't seem like same old Cleary that we all loved. I bet he scores more goals then Hudler next year.
-
Well if we get the chance to scoop up Exelby I would be pretty damn happy. He hits so hard and can fight(beat up Carcillo I'm pretty sure htis year when I was watching a game). He's solid defensively, he doesn't have a lick of offense but neither does Lilja so thats a wash.
-
The league youre referring is the AHL I'm assuming? Because in the NHL Hudler is not above average defensively, hes weak. Without playing with the guys on the wings who are all solid 2 ways pretty much he would be screwed. Youre right he can't outmuscle guys so going to the nets in the corners doesn't really matter because when he gets there he gets muscled off completely. He's good on the PP, offensive situations and against other teams third lines, thats about it. You Hudler lovers who think he's so amazing don't remember him on the 4th line the last time he was playing here do you?
-
They may bring back Exelby or Van Ryn in this spot. Oreskovic could possibly earn it outta camp as well. I wouldn't mind Exelby in Detroit as a replacement for Lilja now that I think about it. He hits harder then Lilja, fights better then Lilja and he is solid defensively. His plus minus wasn;t great last year but it was on the leafs. After Brookbank, Exelby is my choice if Lilja hits the open market.

Exactly. Everyone thinks Huds is a lock for top 6 all year but last time he was here he ended up 4th line in the playoffs for gods sake. He'll probably end up on the 3rd line and as a PP specialist. -
Exactly. The wings don't go European in the first round they save that for the bottom rounds to get sleepers. Not to mention theres hardly any europeans projected to be first round picks really, the wings will save picking up those guys for the second round.
-
Knew something was wrong. People saying he needs to be traded and blah blah blah will be eating crow next season.
-
We're clearly not going to sway each other on Beachamin, I disagree with you but we can agree he's for sure a top 4 defenseman? And no Komisarrek played worst this year when he did play then he did with Montreal. He has potential to be a top 2 defenseman. Bottom line is this team has a better then average defense in the upcoming years.
