Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

I hate the Pens as much as the next Wings fan, but what Thornton did was uncalled for and def not part of the hockey 'code.' Seems almost certain that he will be suspended. Hopefully Orpik is okay. -

GDT 12/10 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Panthers 3 (SO)
TheDetroitRedWings replied to RedWang's topic in General
Love Babcock and all, but I just can't wrap my head around why he continues to put Abby on the 2nd line. And I don't wanna hear "oh it's to have balance on the 2nd line." If "balance" means to have a guy out there who has never been and will never be a top line guy, then let's please not go for balance. There's a reason most gritty players are 3rd and 4th liners (aside from the ones who regularly contribute offensively, which Abby does not). At this point I'm just hoping and praying that when Z returns, Babcock will finally lose his man-crush on Abby and put him on the 3rd or 4th line where he belongs. -

No offense man, but you should really leave the GDTs to the members who actually use graphics n such. No biggie, just a suggestion. GO RED WINGS!!!! PAVEL FOR THE HAT TRICK!!! -

Didn't see that yet. Just happened to catch this part of the incident only. -
gdt 12/6 GDT 7:00PM: Red Wings 3 at Devils 1

All I know is Tatar better be on one of the top 2 lines from now on (even when Pav and Hank return). He continues to prove game after game that he can be a difference maker and a game changer. Time for Abby to head back to the 3rd line where he belongs. -
injured Zetterberg out at least 2 weeks with herniated disc
TheDetroitRedWings replied to 13dangledangle's topic in General
Gotta say I'll be very surprised if he returns in 2 weeks. Everything I know about back injuries, specifically herniated discs (im a Physical Therapist) would lead me to think he will be out at least a month. Obviously the severity can be different for each person, but generally speaking it takes at least 4 weeks and in some cases up to 6 months for recovery. And it's extremely easy to re-injure during the recovery process. Meaning he will most likely be couch potato until his back is 100% healed. Let's just hope and pray he can return in 2 weeks. -
First and foremost I love Babs and I think he's a great coach. But sometimes his line choices are mind-boggling. Tatar on the 3rd line and Abby on the 2nd? How is it not the other way around? How much more does Tatar have to do to prove that he at least deserves a spot over Abby? I just don't understand Babcock's logic sometimes. I will continue to support him, but to me it just doesn't make any sense.

Had some fantasy hockey drafts this week (a few for bragging rights, and a money league). And of course I always like to target a few Red Wings, the obvious being Z, Dats, Mule, Kronner and Jimmy. But this season with our plethora of skilled forwards, it seems there's several more Red Wings fantasy options than the past few seasons. Besides the 5 I already mentioned above, I've seen the following Red Wings get drafted in all 3 of my leagues: Alfredsson, Weiss, Abdelkader, Nyquist, Tatar and DeKeyser. Granted, all of my leagues were at least half full of Wings fans, but still, it seems this year there's more coveted Red Wings in the fantasy world than usual. Personally, I only targeted 6 in my drafts (Z, Dats, Kronner, Jimmy, Aflie, Weiss) but I can certainly understand taking a late-round chance on the others mentioned. How many/which Red Wings are you targeting/or have already drafted this year?

I'm happy Nyquist is finally in there, but Cleary on the 1st line??? Come on Babs...smh

Injured Danny DeKeyser out 3-6 weeks with separated shoulder, LTIR
TheDetroitRedWings replied to BottleOfSmoke's topic in General
Obviously this goes without saying, but what a devastating loss... I know he won't be gone for too long, but considering the way we've played lately, losing basically our best defenseman is really gonna hurt. Kenny needs to pull off a trade for a top-4 d-man. And not just because DeKeyser is hurt, but because we desperately need more depth on the back-end in case of future injuries (especially serious injuries). I know it's not easy to acquire a top 4 d-man, but if you give true equal value or even more than equal value in return, it can most certainly be accomplished. And at this point, something needs to be done soon, otherwise the losing will likely continue. -
Cleary in, Tatar out against Caps
TheDetroitRedWings replied to DatsyukToZetterberg's topic in General
Totally disappointed by this... Tatar needs to be in the lineup every night (same goes for Nyquist). Still just can't fathom why we would possibly re-sign Cleary (especially with all our roster/cap issues). Ridiculous... -
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2013311110084 I'm actually shocked that Babcock is finally holding Cleary accountable for his total lack of contributions so far this season. Maybe Kenny is starting to realize that signing Cleary when we already had too many forwards was probably not the smartest move (and I love Kenny). Not to mention it forcing us to send Nyquist down to GR, when obviously he should be a permanent regular with the big club.

gdt 11/9 GDT: Lightning 3 @ Red Wings 2 (OT)
TheDetroitRedWings replied to RedWang's topic in General
Always a huge game when the winner gets #1 in the division. I do think we'll win, but I definitely think Filppula will either score or set up a goal tonight. I was all for moving on from him, but obviously comparing what he's done so far with what Weiss has done, I can understand why some ppl think we made the wrong move. I miss Filp too, but I do still have high hopes for Weiss. -
Avs trade Downie to Flyers for Talbot
TheDetroitRedWings replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
Yeah, but one dummy brings a lot more to the table than the other. Great trade for the Flyers. -
As much as I love watching Z and Dats play together, I really think these new lines are overall much better and wisely chosen. Especially with Abby finally being on the 3rd line where he belongs.
-
Great GDT! And I like the game counter idea as well! Good stuff!
-
Damn that's disappointing news...And not so much cause we're losing Ericsson, but because we're gonna have to deal with more Smith. I just hope when Kronner comes back we give the nod to Ouellet over Smith for that last D spot.
-
DeKeyser continues to prove game after game that he's the real deal. And the great thing is he's likely not even close to reaching his full max potential yet.
-
Well yeah, it's not like we'll be able to package Eaves and Sammy to get one. But IMO we need to do whatever it takes. Even if that means giving up more than what we would like to. There's basically only a few untouchable forwards in my book (Pav, Hank, Alfie, Weiss). Everyone else should be considered (even Mule) if it means we can bring in a solid top-4 guy. There's gotta be a team out there willing to give up a top 4 guy as long as they're getting overly compensated in return.
-
Sure hope Kenny can pull off a trade at some point, to bring in a top-4 d-man. Pretty sad state of affairs when Quincey is your temporary #1.
-
He's dreadfully bad defensively. And RARELY generates any offense. As soon as Kronner is back Smith will go right back to being a healthy scratch. Though I'm starting to think we need to permanently part ways with him.
-
I'm not worried at all. I worked down in Florida for almost a year and caught a ton of Panthers games (unfortunately lol) and Weiss is def the real deal. The Wings play a completely diff system, so it will for sure take a lot more than 7 games to adjust. And in the meantime he's had some beautiful passes and already put the puck in the net a few times (with one being an OT game-winner). He'll get better and better each game he plays in this system.
-
Good god I hope this doesn't mean Smith gets back in there. Hopefully Kronner will be ready ASAP.
