Apparently you didn't watch even one of Glendening's shifts last night. He wasn't just a little better than Emmerton, he was WAY better.

Exactly. I mean, I know that line hasn't meshed very well yet (Mule-Weiss-Alfie), but come on we're only 4 games in. Gotta give them more time to build some chemistry. Abby is not a top line guy. It's one thing when he had Z and Dats to help make him look a lil better, but without them he needs to immediately be sent to the 3rd of 4th line where he belongs.
-
Finally Bert is back with Datsyuk! That was the 1st line I wanted to see from the beginning! Not so sure I agree with moving Alfie to the 3rd line just yet, but the overall switch up should have a positive impact.

Only 2 wrong first night, not too shabby!

Didn't do it last year due to an overwhelmingly busy schedule. But this year im def in!

Ridiculous... There should be some kind of limit set by the NHL. I mean come on, a captain and 6 alternates? That's MORE than one full lines worth of hockey players. The Oilers are making some head scratching decisions. First they appoint Ference captain (before he had even played one game for them) over Smyth and other deserving players. And now this? Oilers are really starting to get annoying.

Steve Yzerman wants Game Misconduct penalties for fighting
TheDetroitRedWings replied to thegerkin's topic in General
First I must say, Steve Yzerman has been my idol since as far back as I can remember. But in this ONE instance, I have to respectfully disagree. I understand the potential for concussions (like what happened to Parros when he lost balance and fell on his face), but let's be honest, there's rarely serious injury or even minor injuries in fighting (aside from maybe some bumps and bruises). I could see if there were a growing trend of injuries taking players out left and right, but until that happens there should be no rule changes in regards to dropping the gloves. Still love ya though Stevie! You're still the man! -
My guess is Cleary by far. The only way he'll avoid it, is if he plays like the Dan Cleary from 3 years ago. Especially when you consider that he essentially took a roster spot from Nyquist (even though he wont be in GR too long).

Red Wings impact on fantasy hockey
TheDetroitRedWings replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in Other Sports
There's a big difference between targeting players, and actually drafting players. Odds are most will be drafted in between your picks. For example, instead of just targeting Alfie, I targeted Weiss as well, that way if one gets drafted I can snag the other, or vise versa. Obviously you don't want them all on the same team from the same draft lol -
Red Wings impact on fantasy hockey
TheDetroitRedWings replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in Other Sports
Couldn't agree more. I never surpass 2 players from the same team (unless a goalie is involved). I targeted 6 Wings knowing most will get taken before I pick. The more you target, the more you have a reliable backup plan for certain positions. But yeah regardless of the number you target you should never have a bunch from the same team. -
GDT 9/27 Pre-Season GDT : Maple Leafs 2 at Red Wings 5
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Too bad it's not televised...Hopefully a nice stream can be found. Looking forward to seeing how Franzen-Weiss-Alfredsson mesh together (especially since they haven't really played much together yet). GO WINGS BABY!!! -
Just happened to catch this little nugget a few min ago. Apparently, Tootoo might miss the rest of preseason with a minor shoulder injury. But according to Ken Holland, he will be ready to go for game 1 of the regular season. So it looks like Tootoo won't be cut or traded before the season starts afterall. For me, this is great news. Personally, I love what he brings to the table. And considering the general style of play in the east, Tootoo is exactly what this team needs on their 4th line. That's not to say he couldn't be traded near the trade-deadline. But for now, I'm happy we'll be starting the season with that little firecracker. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nhl/1556
-
I'm not ready to give up on him yet. But the kid looks terrible so far in his NHL career. If he doesn't show some significant improvement by season's end, I think it'll be time to either send him back down to GR for awhile, or part ways completely.

Detroit would like to welcome the Eastern Conference
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Yeah, but all their cups were won many decades ago (the most current one being Montreal's '93 Cup title). Since the mid 90's the Red Wings have been leaps and bounds better and more consistent than either of those teams. Heck, in that time span we've almost won more Cups than either team has playoff appearances. And i'll take boasting about recent championships, over Cups won back in the black-and-white TV era any day. Any Habs or Leafs fans still bragging about ancient championships just proves how inept and inconsistent their teams have been in this modern era of hockey. We are the new crown jewels of the eastern conference. Oh and I almost forgot, LETS GO RED WINGS!!!!! -
For that price, this is a good signing for the blues. Morrow still has some good hockey left in the tank. And should provide some veteran leadership to a relatively young squad.

Lidstrom will play in Winter Classic Alumni Game
TheDetroitRedWings replied to lfd250's topic in General
Looks like there's still a chance Steve and Sergei might also play. Sure hope so. How epic would that be? Would probably be more pumped for the Alumni game than the actual Winter Classic game LOL http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/09/red_wings_still_hoping_to_conv.html -
Big Red Wings Announcement coming tomorrow
TheDetroitRedWings replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
God I hope the announcement is Steve Yzerman deciding to participate in the Winter Classic. Would almost bring a tear to my eye just to see Stevie in the Winged Wheel one more time. #19 forever -
Turns down a 2 year, 2.5M deal from the Wings, and now has to resort to accepting a pro try-out to maybe play for a bottom feeder that will likely not see the post-season. Smart move there Damien. Might wanna start thinking about parting ways with your agent.

TheDetroitRedWings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
My apologies. Had no idea that was frowned upon on this site. Duly noted sir Well if anyone wants to watch the game tonight, send me a PM in the next 30-45 min, and i'll send you the link. GO WINGS!!! -
will you tank red wings games due to the cleary signing
TheDetroitRedWings replied to a topic in General
I wanted Cleary to move on from Detroit almost more than anyone, but this thread is beyond ridiculous. What kind of moron would boycott the team over ONE SIGNING?? That's insane and makes no sense at all. -
It's not a for sure yet, but it looks like the Canucks might be interested in Brunner's services. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Todd-Cordell/Are-The-Vancouver-Canucks-In-On-Damien-Brunner/187/53900

Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal
TheDetroitRedWings replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
The only way I'm okay with this is if Cleary plays on the 3rd and 4th lines. If he gets a top 6 spot with top 6 minutes like he did last season, then this signing is a major fail (especially with all the overload of talent we already have). But at 1.75M, I can live with it as long as he plays where he should (bottom 6) and doesn't steal any PP time away from more deserving talented players. The other thing that makes this easier to live with is not only did he take less money to stay here, but that it's a one year deal, so he'll have more incentive and motivation than ever (if he wants an extension past the 1 year deal). So really this is a "prove it" kind of deal. And if he proves he can play like the Dan Cleary of a few years ago, then great. If not, then it will be a no-brainer to move on after the season. -
That was pretty funny
