Nice! Now we just need to re-sign Gus and cut ties with a few players (preferably Eaves and Sammy). -

Buying First Wings Sweater - Advice wanted
TheDetroitRedWings replied to DyingAlive's topic in General
I've been wanting a new Wings jersey for years now. But honestly, I just can't bring myself to "retire" my red CCM Yzerman jersey. Got it summer of 2001 and it still fits great. And Stevie was my idol for my entire childhood and is my favorite player of all time. Sucks he's with Tampa now, but I just can't hang up my #19, and never will. Although I do want a white one as well, so I guess I could just alternate between the two. And for me it's a no-brainer to get #13. Despite the fact that most likely he'll retire from the NHL in 4 years, he's such an epic/magical player and a huge reason for our continued success. Not to mention has never worn another sweater in his career. Pavel bleeds Red Wing red. And I will rock his jersey proudly years after his retirement, just like I do with Yzerman. -
Exactly. Hopefully there still aren't people out there holding onto hope that he'll re-sign. It's 100% for sure not happening. There isn't even a slight chance. Even if we do pull off a trade to dump some salary (doesn't seem likely at this point) Kenny will use that to sign No Knees Washed Up Dan Cleary, not Brunner. He would be a Red Wing right now if he would've lowered his asking price a little, and accepted a bottom 6 role with the potential to EARN a top 6 role, not just be handed the spot free and clear.

Winnipeg re-signs RFA D Zach Bogosian to 7yr/36m contract
TheDetroitRedWings replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
Right, and according to 95% of the Jets fans online, they are all very pleased with this deal. And since they watch the guy play every night, im gonna go ahead and agree with them. Good move for the present and future of the Jets blue line. -
Indeed. And when that happens (and it will for sure), we will absolutely have to shed some $$

And that's not even counting all the young talent emerging from the USA World Junior squad that just won gold. The future of USA hockey is certainly as bright as ever.

It's time - to predict 2014 Team Canada
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Yzerfan1999's topic in General
Yeah, and also they have arguably the weakest all-around goaltending of all the gold medal contending countries. They'll be competitive, but I do highly doubt they'll repeat -
I would say Quick, Anderson, Howard, Miller, Schneider, Kane, Kessel, Parise, Ryan, Byfuglien, Suter, Yandle (and possibly Kesler with his 2-way skills) would all have a very good chance of cracking Canada's lineup. Although the great thing about the direction USA hockey is going, in another 4 years that number should grow big time. So much young American talent coming up the ranks. Hopefully most of them will develop accordingly.

I actually agree completely. But I have a feeling after the heroics Miller displayed in 2010 that he'll at least be in the top 3 (if not backup). But yes as of now Jimmy is definitely the better goalie
-
Gotta disagree with you on that. Our weakest centerman is Paul Stastny, and despite his slight decline in production the last few seasons, he is one of the Avs best faceoff guys, and is a really good skater. I do agree about Abby tho. I see almost no chance of him making the team. And as much as I'd like to hope Howard will be Quick's backup, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Craig Anderson or even Ryan Miller get that spot. I see Jimmy being the 3rd goalie for sure

ESPN/Sportscenter gives the NHL 2.7% of its time
TheDetroitRedWings replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
The sad thing is, I'm actually surprised to see it's even 2.7%. Rarely is the NHL mentioned on a typical sportscenter. And since they don't have a contract with the NHL anymore, sportscenter is basically their only show where you would even have a chance of hearing anything NHL-related. Although true NHL fans definitely shouldn't be heading to ESPN for their hockey fix. At least there's always NHL network and NHL center ice (couldn't live without em). -
I wanted Brunner back as much as the next guy, but at this point it really is time for us Wings fans to move on. First of all he's asking for too much money and looks as though he's sticking to his guns. And on top of that our complete logjam at forward makes it nearly impossible to sign anyone, let alone someone asking for a million more than they're worth. And with so many young talented forwards in our system, it becomes a no brainer to let Damien walk. We should all just focus on the positive that we no longer have to deal with worthless Dan Cleary taking up a top-6 roster spot
-
Agreed. Really good depth at forward, pretty good overall depth at D, and quite possibly the best all-around goaltending in the world. This squad could definitely get back to the gold medal game.

Devils sign Jagr (1 yr deal, financial terms not yet disclosed)
TheDetroitRedWings replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Because Jagr will likely get around the same $ he's been getting lately, which is around 4.5M. So unless Brunner is willing to ask for much less than what's being reported, Brunner won't be a Devil -
Yeah, I mean I hate him as much as the next guy, but they only included him in the ad because we've had a rivalry with the Penguins for years, and now we'll be in the same conference playing each other 3 times a year.

Fedorov: ‘We had the chance’ to bring Datsyuk to KHL
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Opie's topic in General
Feds is just doing his job. Is he suppose to say "nah we don't want one of the best players in the world." He then went on to say he completely understands Pavel's decision. So even Fedorov knows which league is the best. He's just trying to make his team as good as he can. No biggie at all -
Fedorov: ‘We had the chance’ to bring Datsyuk to KHL
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Opie's topic in General
“[Datsyuk] said: ‘I want to grow as a player and I think that for me the best option is to stay in the NHL,’” Fedorov explained. Damn right! The best and most talent-rich league in the WORLD. Why would anyone not named Kovalchuk want to play in a lesser league? If you're already filthy rich it should be a no-brainer to want to play against the best of the best. Sorry KHL, there are Russians that recognize your league as inferior, because it IS. -

Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan
TheDetroitRedWings replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
Bunch of losers? The Tigers have been to the world series twice in 6 years and are a legit contender for the title. The Pistons have sucked the past few seasons but were title contenders for most of the 2000s (and obv champs in '04). And the Lions, well, the Lions are huge losers, and have basically always been, so you're right about them (making the playoffs in 2011 was the biggest success in years). But don't act like the Wings are the only team in Detroit that can bring the city a Championship. Though I do agree the Red Wings should be number 1 in the state. -
Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan
TheDetroitRedWings replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
That's the general consensus because Football and Baseball are the 2 most popular sports in the country. So obv that trickles down to each state. I can say with certainty that the margin between hockey lovers and the other major sports is a lot closer in Michigan than it is in any other state. I've noticed several ESPN polls over the years asking fans what sport event they are most excited about for that particular weekend. And many times their "color coded" map of the U.S. will be mostly one color throughout the entire country, with Michigan being the only state with a different color (the color representing Hockey). Not to mention everyone I know from all diff areas of Michigan that put the Red Wings not just number 1, but number 1 BY FAR over any other sport. I guess that's what happens when you have the best and most consistent hockey team in the world for over 20 years -
I think that's right. So it's prolly not Duchesne. And as already stated, Steve Thomas would be playing for the Leafs alumni. My gut is telling me Yzerman will be back wearing the Winged Wheel one more time!!!
-
Yeah I don't think he heard the news. Steve Chaison died in a car accident back in 1999 So I'm guessing Stevie Y will be playing!
-
Not to sound like I'm ripping on the OP here, but is this seriously even a question?? Of course both numbers will be retired. Absolutely no doubt about it

After today's scrimmage they interviewed Babcock and he said he liked what he saw, but that "other than Mantha, most the players had moments where they looked like prospects." Implying that Mantha never looked like a prospect out there. Really good to hear cause he will only improve. Maybe the kid wasn't so far off when he said he wants to make this team this year or next year.
