Well first off, I'm kinda holding out some hope that we can bring in a top 4 D-man via trade (since we have such a surplus of fowards). Not exactly expecting it, but got my fingers crossed. As for Nick jr, he's obviously no Nick Lidstrom, but he seems to have what it takes to be a number 1 guy. Looked pretty good in his first season as #1, and likely he will only get more comfortable with that role as time goes on

Even though it's not official yet, twitter is saying the contract has already been verbally agreed on, they just need to get together and sign on the dotted line. So now that we know he's devil, we can now say that Brunner really f***ed up. Now if he had turned Kenny's offer down and signed with a contender for more $ that would make some sense. But for just 500k-1M more he goes from a Cup contender to a non-playoff bottom feeder, that has done nothing but get worse (first Parise, then Clarkson, now Kovy) not to mention an aging, shell of his former self Brodeur who will surely retire after the season. Great move Damien. Hope you're into golf, cause you'll be able to hit the links right after the last day of the regular season
-
Amen brother. Hopefully one of these teams will hurry up and sign him before Kenny pulls off a "free up cap space" trade.
-
After somewhat recently losing their former captain in Parise, then losing a heart and soul player like Clarkson, now losing Kovy?? You can pretty much bank on them signing Grabovksi and probably Brunner as well. Cause not only do they need some players they now have extra $ to spend. I'll be shocked if they don't sign one (or 2) of the big names still out there by the end of this week

Pretty sure we never had anything to worry about in that department lol

My thoughts exactly. For now I'm definitely not sold on Smitty. Hopefully with experience and time he will improve. But for now I have not been too impressed

Bruins Re-Sign Rask for 8yr, 7m AAV

I think he means lately -
Bruins Re-Sign Rask for 8yr, 7m AAV
TheDetroitRedWings replied to WorkingOvertime's topic in General
He's definitely become their franchise goaltender. Although these days 7M for a goalie seems a lil risky. I'm sure Rask won't hit the wall any time soon, just seems like a lot for a guy that has only started 1 season. Gotta say good signing though, cause for now Rask seems to the real deal -
Another day passes and Damien Brunner has STILL not signed with any other team. I really don't know what to make of it. At first I assumed he was trying to decide which team would suit him best. But come on it's been 6 days now, what more does he need to figure out? I wonder if those other teams are also not willing to pay him 3.5-4M? Cause if that is the case, then maybe there still is a slight slight chance of him remaining with Detroit, if Kenny can pull of a trade and create more cap space. It just seems to me that if he has zero interest in re-signing, he would've definitely signed with someone else by now. Maybe he's waiting it out to see what Kenny does.

Did Kenny mention anything about exploring possible trades? Cause obv we have way too many forwards

He's got the Moves Like Jagr..because he's Jaromir Jagr.....
TheDetroitRedWings replied to a topic in General
Sad thing is I'd actually rather give an ancient Jagr that contract rather than Cleary... -
At this point re-signing ANY forward is mind blowing logic. Let alone a declining Cleary taking up a roster spot that could be filled by SEVERAL better options...I just hope and pray this signing doesn't get finalized
-
I know it seems pretty official that he won't be coming back. But the fact that he hasn't signed with another team yet leads me to hold out some slight hope
-
Earlier in the year with Dallas he looked pretty bad. But he played great with the Pens and definitely looked like the Morrow of old. Would much rather just have Brunner re-sign though
-
Well since Brunner is now officially not re-signing, looks like Morrow would be a welcomed addition to replace him. Either that or maybe Jerome Iginla Or maybe even sign Grabovski or Derek Roy and slide them over to left or right-wing
-
Wow...Considering Cleary is asking for 3M and Brunner is asking for 2.5M i just don't understand this. The only thing I can think is another team offered Brunner more than he was asking. But if that is the case, then why hasn't he signed with anyone yet?

Filppula to Tampa 5 yr $5 million
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
Makes perfect sense from Yzerman's standpoint. He's already familiar with Fil, and he just lost a center in Vinny Lecavalier. Looks like we'll be seeing a lot of Filp now in our new division! Bring it on! -
Morrow showed he definitely has a lot left in the tank. But I just don't see where he would fit? IMO the only way we make this move is if we don't re-sign Brunner. And if I had to choose I'd take 27 year old brunner over 34 year old Morrow any day of the week

signed Wings sign Stephen Weiss, 5-years, $24.5m

I'm loving these signings but for real can we please re-sign Brunner already? Once we ink him i'll officially be fully satisfied -

Personally I was hoping for Grabovski but Weiss brings a lot to the table as well. And will be a very nice fit for our system. Nice job Kenny atta boy -
signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)
TheDetroitRedWings replied to ogreslayer's topic in General
There's no doubt this signing will help the team. And the price is definitely right. But I just hope we land our 2nd line center. Even if it's re-signing Filppula -
IMHO Grabovski > Weiss
-
I definitely agree. But I wouldn't be surprised so see him get even as much 6M on the open market. I don't think Kenny should claim him. But F. Michael did bring up an interesting point. Of course depending on how much interest Kenny actually has in him. Just seems to be quite a head-scratching few weeks seeing what some of these players are asking for.
