Signed Wings sign (D) Brian Lashoff to 3-year, $2.175m extension
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Jedi's topic in General
Nice! Brian has definitely earned this with his consistent solid defensive play. And I guess putting the puck in the net a few times doesn't hurt either. Now it's time to sign Brunner to a 5-6 year extension!! -
Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal
TheDetroitRedWings replied to a topic in General
I do like the idea of realignment. But having one conference with 16 teams and the other having only 14 teams is beyond ridiculous. Total disadvantage to any mediocre eastern team, regardless of any "wildcard" scenarios. Cause the bottom line is top 8 of 16 and top 8 of 14 in this competitive league is a HUGE difference. I'm for realignment as long as both conferences have 15 teams -
2/23 GDT : Nashville Predators 0 at Red Wings 4
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I just hope we don't go up 2-0... -
No surprise here. Jan has speed but from what I've seen that's about it. In the columbus game he really looked like a boy versus men getting pushed around and overpowered throughout the game. If he can add about 15 lbs of muscle it could do wonders for his game. Hopefully he'll develop in GR and maybe earn another shot in the big show

Healthy starters the problem, Not young replacements
TheDetroitRedWings replied to b.shanafan14's topic in General
No clue how Dan Cleary earned an NHL roster spot. The guy is worthless. He's slower than ever, can't complete a crisp pass to save his life. And he loses about 90% of his puck battles. I mean I know we have a lot of guys out right now. But id seriously rather call up another griffen then have to deal with a liability on the ice like Cleary -
Def not gonna get my hopes too high and expect the kid to be the second coming of Dominik Hasek. But it is nice to see us give Jimmy a break finally.

Didn't this site sell shirts with Pavel's likeness/silhouette on them? Pretty sure i remember seeing that.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=414354 Montreal's situation is looking more and more desperate. And all signs are now pointing to a Subban trade. Should Kenny be interested here?? Personally, I think it's something that should at least be explored. Especially since both teams are desperate in their own ways. So what do you guys think? And what would you be willing to give up for Subban?

Yeah, cause giving Ericsson 3.2 a year was DEF worth it...

signed Red Wings sign D Kent Huskins to 1-year, $750k contract
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Jedi's topic in General
If he stays healthy i really like this signing. Kent isn't gonna give you moster numbers by any means. But he is very solid defensively and can occasionally put the puck in the net. And got him for dirt cheap as well. Atta boy Kenny! -
God I sure hope not... Redden is done

Who was the better Wing/Player? Yzerman or Lidstrom
TheDetroitRedWings replied to number9's topic in General
The official Detroit Red Wings on facebook had a tourney to determine the greatest Red Wing of all time. Of course the final was Yzerman Vs Lidstrom. Stevie Y won by a landslide, getting more than double the votes Lidstrom received. -
Some people should calm down a bit and take it easy. I really don't think this is a bullsh*t move by Quincey. And not only is Ken Holland not upset, he agrees with Quincey. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/07/red_wings_defenseman_kyle_quin.html

HockeyyInsiderr is a complete and total fraud. He has absolutely zero sources other than s*** he makes up in his own head or things that were already reported on. No one give that douchebag the time of day. As for Semin, I think it's a must that we sign him
-
It's clear that we needed more defensive depth even with Nick Lidstrom. So now that Nick has hung up the skates, obviously the need is that much stronger. It sounds likely that we'll sign Ryan Suter, and I am all for that. But if we want any chance of replacing that laser shot at the point that Nick had, we should seriously consider throwing an offer to Weber despite his RFA tag. I know that's generally not the Red Wings style. But we did lose arguably the best defenseman of all time. And with having the most cap room in the NHL, we could easily overpay and still have enough $ left over to sign anyone else we're interested in (including a backup goaltender). Not that I think it's a must to overpay, but Nashville doesn't have a ton of cap space so it seems unlikely they will match a very high offer. No one will ever be able to replace Nick Lidstrom. But Shea Weber would be a nice consolation prize with his rocket shot and overall toughness. Plus he's still in his 20s so obviously he has many good years left in him. I think it's at least worth trying, considering how much money we have to spend, and our dire need for help on the back-end.

This would be a really solid move for the Wings. Spent almost 2 months of the season down in Florida for work, so I caught quite a few panther games. And all I can say is I was really impressed with what I saw on a nightly basis. He has a pretty hard shot at the point, likes to get involved with the offense, yet seems to be defensively sound. Plus he's young, and presumably we can sign him for a reasonable price.

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?
TheDetroitRedWings replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Ahhhh I see. And yeah I knew either way the player's team can match all offers, actually what I meant to say was I thought the difference between RFA's and UFA's were if the player's current team matches any offers the player can't sign with any other team. But yeah I didn't realize we had to give up picks as well. Waiting till next season looks like the only true option now. -
Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?
TheDetroitRedWings replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Wouldn't that only be possible through a trade scenario? I always thought RFA's worked the same way as UFA's except the players current team has the right to match any offer. I didn't realize giving up picks would be a part of the equation. I am definitely not willing to give up picks for him. But I would be fine if we threw him an offer and even overpayed a little. -
So hard to choose, so many amazing memories on that run. I guess I'd have to give the edge to Patty Wahhh trying to show off but then getting owned so hard! Again tho, so many great moments it's hard to pick one over another.

Good stuff! haha And the great thing is it seems very likely these teams will meet in the 1st round of the playoffs! Should be an intense series!

Well, first and foremost let's hope Lidstrom will go one more year. If he doesn't, then I think it's almost a certainty that Stuart will be re-signed. I know Brad wants to be with his family in California, but with the cap space we have I'm sure Holland will offer him more $ than any of the Cali teams. And the Red Wings 'playoff guarantee' year after year should also help sway his decision. Plus, the deal would likely be only 2-3 years tops, then he can go back to Cali. I don't think it's really a question of Stuart or Quincey. From what I've heard Holland is definitely sticking with Quincey for the next few years. So it really just comes down to what Lidstrom does, and how much space we have. If Lidstrom does play for one more year (please hockey Gods let it happen), we still have a chance to sign Stuart, but we might not be able to overpay for him. If that happens let's just hope his desire to win more Stanley cups outweighs spending a few more months with his family for just a few more seasons.

Always good to get another regular back. Hopefully big E will be ready tomorrow night.

Miss those days...

Which team would piss you off the most if they won the cup?
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
As much as I would hate to see the Pens win it, nothing would annoy me more than to see the Canucks hoist the cup.
