Jason Williams Offered 1 Year Contract

I agree with most here about the 2.5 mill contract. No way Ken Holland pays Williams that much. I would say 1.5-1.9 mill at the most. Either way I have no interest in seeing Jason Williams back in the winged wheel. He does not address our needs. We need a guy like Mike Grier, not Jason Williams.

Wings agree to terms with Andy Delmore

    Whoopidy doo....

Shanahan and or Sundin to Wings?

I highly doubt the Mats Sundin rumor. But I could see Shanny coming back to us for league minimum. We desperately need a few wingers. I would be okay with an aging Shanny on our 3rd and 4th line. He would still contribute here and there.

Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings

I want Grier over anyone available at this point. He is EXACTLY what we need.

    Osgood NOT Hall Worthy?

Yeah it's called being a realistic and objective non-homer fan. I've only been here a little while. But non-homer Red Wings fans seam to be a minority on these forums. My guess is objective non-homer Red Wings fans are outnumbered 8-1. Some of the people here saying Osgood is elite made me laugh to no end. I've been a Red Wings fan since the early 80's. I bleed Red Wing red. But there is a thing called taking your red colored goggles off and being realistic. Osgood is no where near elite. He's not bad or anything. He's a pretty good goalie who has played for a great organization for the majority of his career. Simple as that. No more, no less.

    Osgood NOT Hall Worthy?

Excellent points. 100% agreed. Even the red goggle wearing fans will have a hard time disputing that post. What I love about it is it's not just an opinion. Those are facts people. Hard to argue with facts.

Detroit MIGHT BE interested in Kessel?

    Please God Please.

    Osgood NOT Hall Worthy?

Your analogies don't make sense here. Guys like Jeter and Howe are/were great individually as players. Just so happens they played for elite organizations. Put Howe on any other team and he would still have been an elite forward. Put Jeter on any other team and he would still be an elite shortstop. I'm just going by individual skill and talent. Yes Osgood has impressive career stats. Especially the 2 cups as a starter. But when I think of a hall of famer, I think of someone who was elite and had exceptional skill and talent. Thats what I view as the most important thing when choosing a hall of famer. Not being a mediocre goalie riding the coat-tails of a great organization.

    Osgood NOT Hall Worthy?

Yeah and the one year he did it with the Islanders, they were actually a good team. They were a playoff team that year. It's not like Osgood put the team on his back or anything. And after that one season the Islanders cleaned house and lost several key guys. And of course, Osgood's numbers nose-dived immediately. Basically the same story goes for his time with the Blues, except that first year the Blues were not just playoff contenders, they were Cup contenders. Then they too lost some key pieces. And of course, Osgood's numbers nose-dive. Osgood is not an elite goaltender. He never was. He will never be. He is mediocre at best. Hense the fact that he's never won an individual award in his entire career. Osgood is not Hall worthy.

    Osgood NOT Hall Worthy?

How refreshing to see some fellow Red Wings fans that don't always see things through their red goggles.

    Osgood NOT Hall Worthy?

    Agreed.

    Osgood NOT Hall Worthy?

Sorry, but these Osgood numbers are a product of being on arguably the best team of the past 15 years. If Osgood had been with the Blues his entire career this wouldn't even be a discussion. Osgood is not hall worthy because he has never been that great of a goaltender. I'll give Osgood 2008. Because for the first time in his career he looked a little above average. But that's all. Other then that, he's mediocre at best. He's just lucky he has played for the Red Wings for the majority of his career. No way Osgood makes the hall.

    Dany Heatley a possibility?

Obviously he wants out of Ottawa. We have a situation right now with Hudler where we might accept whatever the arbitor says, then we could easily trade Hudler. We may have to add something else into the deal. But it seams to make some sense. Heatley can play either wing, and if there is one thing we need it's a winger. Seams like it would be a perfect fit. Does anyone think there is a chance?? Or do the numbers just not work? I would love to see Heatley in the winged wheel.

    Biron Signs in Long Island

Wow...so for all those people saying, "give Osgood a break, he doesn't take up that much salary," here is a perfect example of how you can upgrade in net without breaking the bank. I would take Biron over Osgood ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Biron is faster, bigger, and younger. Would have been well worth the couple extra 100k.

    Grier and Betts

I would love to have Grier in Detroit. He's gritty and he's a hometown boy. Probably not too pricey either. Get it done Kenny!

    Dany Heatley a possibility?

What if we packaged Hudler with Stuart? Other then big hits, I was very displeased with his play all year long (including playoffs). I forget how much Stuart makes, so maybe the numbers won't work there either. But I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

    Larsson is the quicker goalie.

The most at risk sports teams (per msn.com)

The Tigers are one of the most historic teams in baseball. I don't care how bad the economy gets. The Tigers will never leave Detroit. Period.

    Hossa and Kopecky Press Conference

I was just at TSN.ca and clicked on the "Hossa joining a new flock" video. It started to load. Then stopped with a message popping up saying "Canada Only." What a complete joke. I'll never go to that site again. Ridiculous.

Red Wings look toward the post-Chris Osgood era

I'll take a guy that is consistent, over a guy that sometimes gets hot here and there. Does dead last in GAA and Save % ring a bell? Sure he stepped it up in the playoffs. But he still didn't look nearly as sharp as he was in 08'. And now he's a year older coming off his worst regular season ever. Bringing his level up to "solid" for 3 weeks is just not good enough in my eyes. Especially when talking about the most important position in hockey. Not to say that it's easy to get an elite goaltender. But I'm saying its about time we give up what we need to give up in order to get an elite goaltender. With the team we have, a shut down goalie would make our Wings literally unstoppable.

Red Wings look toward the post-Chris Osgood era

Yeah "solid" in the postseason at best. How about finally getting a goalie that is more than "solid." Plus, Osgood look below average in the finals, he didn't look too good against the Blackhawks either. And add that with the fact that throughout the entire regular season he had the WORST GAA and the WORST save % in the ENTIRE LEAGUE (including all team's backup goalies). And now he's yet another year older. No way in hell his contract gets renewed. I'll be counting down the days till his contract is up. Then we can finally have some security between the pipes.
