Def wouldn't want to give up Jurco. But if it had to be either Jurco or Tatar, I'd have to go with Jurco. Jurco is much more unproven than Tatar at this point. How is Jurco a more valuable player?? Because he's bigger? He has a much smaller sample size of NHL games. Tatar has showed that he for sure belongs in this league. Jurco has looked solid but def hasn't been as impressive as Tatar.
-
Tatar has completely outplayed Jurco up to this point. Sure he's not a big guy, but go tell Marty St. Louis he's too small to be an impact player. Jurco has been okay but not overly impressive by any means. Not that he won't improve and get better. But at this point in time Tatar has brought much more to the table than Jurco.
-
For an injury prone defenseman on the last year of his contract?? Umm...yeah, Tatar is very much untouchable in this scenario IMO. Now if we were looking to trade for Shea Weber that would be a different story. But for Mike Green, Kenny would be a fool to give up a player like Tatar who has been so good and still hasn't hit his full potential in this league.
-
I think it goes without saying that we can't give up Tatar, Nyquist or Mantha. But Jurco and picks seems reasonable considering how desperately we need a top D-man and a right handed shot. Get it done Kenny.

Signed Wings sign Andy Miele (former Hobey Baker winner)
TheDetroitRedWings posted a topic in General
1 year deal http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/07/detroit_red_wings_sign_forward_1.html Not a bad signing for the Griffins. Seems to be a pretty solid player. -
I hate Quincey and I hate Cleary even more. But to even consider "tanking" a season is beyond ridiculous. Especially a team like ours that makes the playoffs every year. I don't care how close it was, we continue to make the playoffs despite all the misfortunes thrown our way. And we actually played Boston pretty well for the most part in that series. Chara said it best when he said that it might have been a 5 game series but it sure didn't feel like one. Multiple OT games in that series. I wouldn't even consider tanking if we were a 12-15 seed. A legendary franchise like the Red Wings never say die and would never throw all integrity out the window and tank a season. So please, just go root for another team.
-
You sir, are a grade A clown. Tank the season?? GTFO and go root for the Canucks or Flyers or someone.

-edit- Didnt see Helm there. They might accept that trade. But giving up Helm and his deadly speed would be really tough to do. -
2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Datsyukian-Deke's topic in General
With the best remaining options being Derek Morris, Ed Jovanovski, Michael Del Zotto, and Joni Pitkaenen, I'd much rather just give Sproul/Ouellet/Marchenko a chance with the big club, than waste our money on any of the players I just mentioned (I do sort of like Del Zotto, but he's yet another lefty). Or acquire a top D-man through trade. As long as we don't have to give up Tatar, Nyquist, or Mantha (I could live with giving up Jurco and picks for the right d-man). -
2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Nope, they almost all live in Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield, Gross Pointe, and Birmingham, which are all beautiful and have extremely low crime rates. Daniel Alfredsson's family wants to stay living in the area regardless if he retires or not. -
Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Richdg's topic in General
Not sure if this is official yet, but twitter is saying Niskanen signed a 7 year 40M deal with the Caps. And I for one say good riddance. That's wayyyy too much of an overpayment for a guy with one big season under his belt. -
Signed Wings sign Kevin Porter to 1-year, 2-way contract
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Swayze's topic in General
Well surely now we can officially plan the parade for next year. The Cup is coming back home. -
According to Helene St. James Twitter: Helene St. James @HeleneStJames 56s Daniel Alfredsson has told #RedWings he wants to play another season. Sides will talk again later this week. Really glad to hear it! Alfie showed that he's still a productive player and leader. Hopefully he'll hoist the Cup before he eventually calls it quits.

Larkin still on the board

Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Richdg's topic in General
I'm way late to this thread. But all I can say is we better not overpay for a guy who has had...count them...ONE good season under his belt. Id rather have an aging Dan Boyle that we know will bring it, like he has almost every other season he's played. However, if the contract is reasonable, I'm all for Niskanen wearing the Winged Wheel. -
Here's a link: http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/do-you-want-joe-thornton I would only be okay with this if we don't give up too much for him. Which I'm sure would be the case.
-
Honestly, I don't even want him taking a spot away from any of our young Griffins. But as long as he isn't wearing the Winged Wheel I can deal with it.

Adam Almquist says he’s considering returning to Sweden to avoid AHL
TheDetroitRedWings replied to DSM's topic in General
Almquist might not be 100% ready for the NHL yet. But from the little bit I've seen of him, I would certainly take him over Kindl, Lashoff, and even Smith (although Smith does occasionally look decent at times). -
WCF: (6) California Dreamin' v (5) The Night Chicago Died
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
For once this went the exact way I was hoping for! The night the Wings got eliminated I sat and looked at the remaining teams and concluded that my best case scenario for the finals would be Rangers Vs Kings (in terms of my level of hatred for the other teams). And sure enough, that's how it went down. Now I'm saying Go Rags cause the Kings just got a Cup a few years back, and the Rangers have been Cupless for 20 years. But if the Kings do win it definitely won't break my heart by any means. -
The kid is such a beast! Despite Kenny's usual protocol regarding prospects, I'm optimistic that we'll see Mantha in a Wings jersey soon. Personally, I'm hoping for next season. But I'll be shocked if Kenny let's him bypass the AHL. My guess is he'll play next season in GR. And if he continues to have success hopefully he'll get to play with the big club the following season.
-
I have a feeling Boyle will be in the Winged Wheel next season. Not only is he a right handed shot, but he'd be another veteran presence on a relatively young Wings squad. And since we're only 2 good d-men away from being a cup contender, it seems like it would be a great fit for both the Wings and Boyle. And considering we make the playoffs every year, it's gotta be a pretty coveted place to play for a guy in his late 30s, who for sure wants a chance at the cup. And we just happened to have his #22 available after buying out Tootoo.

ECSF : (5) New York Rangers vs. (2) Pittsburgh Penguins
TheDetroitRedWings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
So glad the Pens are done! And out of all the remaining teams, I hate the rangers the least. So yeah, I hope they hoist the cup this year. -
Nice! Gus won! Very well deserved. Such a beast.

We would be fools to trade for anything other than a defenseman. IMO we're only 2 good defenseman away from going from a playoff contender, to a Stanley Cup contender. I like Spezza, but we have more than enough capable forwards. Our biggest weakness by far is our defense (or lack thereof).
