    Mursak is out

From what I've seen so far, Emmerton and Brunnstrom have looked really good. Emmerton has played better each game he's been in, and is playing like he intends to make the roster. He's doing things on both ends of the ice that show he wants it. I'm not sure of the stats, but he had to be better than 50% on faceoffs. But it probably helps that he was playing against minor leaguers. Brunnstrom has also looked pretty impressive. He fairly strong on the puck, and has created quite a few scoring chances. He has actually surprised me with his play in the defensive zone. He's pretty good at tying up guys along the boards, and digging out pucks, something I wasn't expecting to see from him.s for I think a good idea, would be to sign Brunnstrom to a 2 way contract that is a little richer than entry level, maybe even, say, $1.25 million, just to make it a little easier for him to clear waivers if he needs to be sent down. My thought is, most teams waiver acquisitions are usually at or near league minimum. Having to spend twice that amount, might keep most teams from trying to acquire him, especially with his recent history. As for Mursak, what a tough break (not meant to be a funny). I hope he can heel up, and be back in a few months. I was looking forward to seeing he and Helm out on a line together melting the ice behind them as they fly around at ludicrous speed.

    Todd Bertuzzi's Shootout Goal

They need to start playing "Sweet Georgia Brown" before Bert's next shootout attempt. Meadowlark Lemon would approve.

Wings using a new font on the Jersys?

Just trying to keep up with the Chinese knock-offs. Maybe it has something to do with that new sponsor.

    McCarty's new job

At first I felt the same way, but then I started to look at it that this is why I love hockey. Two guys who were at the heart of the blood fued between two sworn enemies of teams, sitting at a table together signing autographs. It kind of made me happy to see that, when the game is done, and the players are off the ice, that they can still get along, and make light of the whole situation. It doesn't mean I like Lemieux any more. Just that hockey players are pretty cool guys at the end of the day.

Wings have designated certain games "premium."

Pretty sure this is the second (maybe third) year of premium pricing for games. Tigers have been doing it for at least 3 years now. They are just following suit with most of the other NHL teams. The only game I would question as "premium" would be Calgary. Maybe Winnipeg. But they're a "new" team so it may raise the interest level. The rest are guaranteed sellouts, and generate plenty of resale revenue for both Ticketmaster, and other ticket resellers. From a business standpoint, it only makes sense. And though we may hate to admit it, The Detroit Red Wings are a business, and in it to make money. Edit: After looking at a calendar, the Calgary game makes sense also. The night before Thanksgiving. Those games have always been sold out. Isn't that supposed to be the biggest bar night of the year?

    Washing my Jerseys

http://www.thegoaliesden.com/main.html?src=%2F As far as washing a sweater/Jersey. Woolite with cold water in the sink is probably the safest way to wash. Rinse well in cold water, and hang to dry. You can fluff it in the dryer on air, or low heat for a couple of minutes. A slightly damp towel thrown in for a few minutes with the sweater, will help remove the wrinkles. I have noticed, that the Reebok sweaters are actually pretty washer friendly. At least in a front loader, on gentle cycle.

    Red Wings Sponsor?

The first time I see Babcock take out the chalkboard and draw 3 circles, I'm going to start rooting for the Coyotes.

I could have made it to the NHL!

When I read this, this is the first thing that came to mind. Great thread Steve. And Yeah, I was also surprised at Young Doc Holiday. Maybe we'll have to change his name to Pre-Med Holiday instead.

Who will get the final bobblehead?

What? No Hudler? We'll regret not choosing him when he puts up 111 points, and then bolts for Edmonton, as a free agent. As much as I'd like to see, "Lil'Nik", win, there is something strangly appealing about a, "mass murderer Bert", bobblehead.

    NHL Re-Draft

I have a feeling that I'll be watching a whole lot of Buffalo's games this year. They may not have a ton of talent, but they'll win a lot of games by TKO.

GPS mapping of the cornfield. The design is plotted out, and the combine will follow the coarse that is charted for it to cut. Either that or aliens.

    RFA/UFA Signings

I wonder how many of these players pulled a "Lilja", and priced themselves out of a job? A lot of serviceable players on that list. I'm sure some will be picked up during training camp, others once the season starts and injuries start to add up...And some, will retire quietly.

    Red Wing's Wine

I've seen both the merlot and chardonnay at a few of the Meijers stores I've been to. It's not bad, but, it tastes like a $12 bottle of wine, with a $20-$25 label on it. That being said, they seem to sell a lot of it in The Olympia Club. Here's a link about it from The Red Wings site. Link at bottom of story to area retailers. http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=522869 Also for those into collectables and/or wine, grab your favorite NHL alumnis bottle today. Gordie and Ted are a must have. http://www.alumniwineseries.com/index.html

    Stamkos Re-Signs With Lightning

I don't recall that big young superstar raising a Cup over his head. But I do remember that other team hoisting up 2 of them. Well, kind of that other team. As for Stamkos, I guess all he really needs to do is hold up Ovi'$ contract, and Crosby'$ contract, and Malkin'$ contract and ask Yzerman, "Why are they making so much more than you're offering me?" Not that I'm for that argument, but in the grand scheme of things, he is a commodity, not just a person. I think his agent probably understands this, all too well. Edited to keep on topic. Second edit: Upon reading your comment with my eyes open, I realized that we were saying the same thing, I think.

    Detroit's Chances Of Getting Richards

So you're using a year in which one player on Atlanta who played more than 20 games (Nick Havelid), was a + player at +2, and 12 games played with Pittsburgh to judge Hossa's ability as a 2-way player? You should have used his first season in the league where he played a whopping 7 games at 18 years old and was a -1, too. Those were the only 2 years that a career +97 player was a minus. But if it helps you prove your point, sure, why not. Nick Lidstrom was a -2 player this year. Nick is lazy, and he sucks!! Interesting note. Brad McCrimmon was the defensive coach for both Nick's and Hossa's - years... Coincidence??? This is pure speculation on your part. I would bet just the opposite would be true. When you have somebody to CYA, you are generally inclined not to work on that part of your game/life/work/etc... You don't truly learn to swim, until your boat is sinking. As for your poll, not a chance in hell, IMO.

It was also rumored, that The Wings and Ericsson were close to a deal at around $2 million a year. Look how that one turned out..... Just sayin'.
