I would rather have a crystal figurine of Sami Salo. It would be less delicate. In 12 seasons in the NHL, he has played more than 70 games twice. I think Kenny is looking for someone who has proven to be a little more durable than that.

Vancouver does have home ice advantage, AND their star goalie is playing with great confidence. :rotflmao: -

Thelma and Louise. Another Milbury classic. -
<putting needle on broken record> "You don't want one of your d-men in the box for 5 minutes, it puts unnecessary minutes of PK time on your other defensemen." Paraphrasing Babcock. Edit: After reading through the comments on hockeyfights , I can now see where the Mensa members go for some deep discussion.

I sure hope you're not a tour planner.

Why would The Ilitch Family spend money on a building that they lease from the City of Detroit? Would you spend your money on a new kitchen for an apartment you were renting? The fact is, The City doesn't have the money for anything, let alone improvements to an old stadium that was built on a shoestring budget, or a brand new building for a sports team. If a new stadium is built, Ilitch is going to have to write a check for it. If one is built, it will be in Foxtown, as they own most of the land in that area. Also, The City will want the land that The Joe is on, as well as Cobo Arena for the expansion of Cobo Hall. It's in the City's master plan already, they just need a big bundle of money to fall from the sky to pay for it.

I suppose anything shy of breaking someones neck is something to laugh about to some teams fans... Actually, I remember some laughing at that too. -

Yesterdecade far out trumps yesterNEVER. So far you've won a glass bowl, and a trophy everyone was scared to touch. Be careful with that glass bowl, like Sami Salo, it's fragile, and breaks real easily. Now go troll a Bruins sight. You are playing them after all. -
I could see Kenny giving him $1.5 mil a year, for maybe 2-3 years. Maybe some type of incentives thrown on top of that for performance. I think some other team will offer him $2.5-3 mil for at least a few years, if he hits the market. He's a big body that has "potential", someone will take that chance, just on his performance from 3 years ago. Didn't one of the announcers during the playoffs say he'll get offers of $3.5???
-
He signed a 2 year $8 million contract with Anaheim for the 07-08 year. He was bought out after that year. So, he had one year at $4 mil remaining. Buyouts are at 2/3rds the remaining contract $ at double the term. In his case, $4 mil × .667 (2/3) = $2.66 million. 1 year ( remaining term ) × 2 = 2 years. $2.66 mil ÷ 2 years = $1.33 mil. So, $1.33 in 08-09 ( when he played for Calgary ) and $1.33 in 09-10 ( when he brought his talents to Detroit ). Did I make enough sense out of that? Use Capgeeks buyout calculator and it will explain everything nice and easy. The funniest part of it all, is Burke signing him at $4 million a year.

It's not so much, what they say, it's the way that they say it. That's all. -
That's not what it says here. http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=443 But it also shows that my $ figures were wrong, also. I was thinking he was getting $1.66 mil over 2 years from being bought out. The actual figure was $1.33 mil over 2 years. Less than the $1.5 mil that we were paying him.

I really don't mind Vancouver's team, but I sure want their fans to lose. And I've thought Boston could've made it to the finals the last 3 years, so I'm kind of glad they made it. Even if it did come from beating Stevie's team. I think they have the defense to make the Sedin's invisible like they were in the first 2 rounds. That may be what brings The Cup to Beantown. I'm saying Bruins in 6. -
You are correct. I had completely forgotten about how bad Burke had f*cked The Ducks in his effort to sign people to fill the holes left by Selanne and Niedermayer's indecision. I do remember that The Ducks were paying Bert more not to play, than we were playing him to play in the 09-10 season, as one of those mistakes. I bow at your feet and ask for mercy.

Trevor Gillies??? Anyone?
-
So, Lidstrom is going to sign a 2 way, so he can go and tutor Smith in GR?
-
First, he isn't coming back. Second, Rafalski's contract would still be valid, and have to be prorated, as he has one year remaining on it. Niedermayer's contract had expired. The scenario you suggest, would work for Lidstrom, though. Seeing as his contract expires at 12 am on July 1st. But I don't want to go there, as that would seriously limit Nick's ability to get an eighth Norris Trophy.

Confetti? Oh yeah, Vancouver won the Cup. Sorry, I forgot.

Brian Rafalski announces retirement after 11 NHL seasons

There has already been a thread started here. He must retire, otherwise LGW will lose it's credibility. Edit: Upon thinking about it further, maybe someone needs to start a "Hudler retires" thread. -

Woo Hoo! $6 million bucks to spend on a replacement. Or maybe with an extra couple million, 2 D-men of the #2-#4 variety. I kind of see our future defense as a solid group of #2 -#4 guys all capable of logging 20 minutes per night, and all somewhat equal pairings. Or maybe this gives Kenny the ability to throw an offer sheet at Weber, and play Nashville's hand. I know it's a slim chance, but they have Suter and Rinne to sign next year. Might be a situation like San Jose did with Hjalmersson. They needed both a goalie, and a defensman, and made Chicago pick which one they wanted to keep. Either way, if it's true, best wishes to you, Rafi. Thanks for helping us bring home another Cup. And thanks for giving LGW someone to throw under the bus.
