I say, let's go do what the War Room couldn't. And let's run up the score while we're at it, just to make us all feel good.

Boston in 3. Montreal won't have anyone willing to dress after the first 3 games of getting beat down. Bruins win by forfeit.

Someone's really in dick mode tonight. Mine is probably 1987 Norris Division finals against Toronto. To see the "Bad News Bears" rally to win that series after going down 3 games to 1 was really a bright spot after years of disappointment. Then to go on to The Campbell Conference finals against The Oilers and win the first game. I remember thinking that we just might have a chance to beat them and go to the finals. Wishful thinking, as we lost the next 4 games, but the last 3 of those were really tight 1 goal games. The teams surprised a lot of people that year. Including its fans. We had the same results the following year, until the Goose Loonies incident tore the team apart. Man did that screw up anything that the team had going into the next year.

Babcock has stated several times, that they want to finish as high as possible in the standings. That home ice advantage is important. That his players mailed it in tonight, means nothing of the wishes of management. If they didn't want to win, they would have rested Datsyuk instead of Draper.
-
My bet is that that will be decided in San Jose Saturday night. If The Sharks win, we sit a few out Sunday AFTERNOON. If Sharks lose, we try to win. It seems as if they really want that 2nd seed. That, and they would like to play a good game going into the playoffs.

Sure hope he gives it his all like Hossa did.

???????????? Oh, it's a hat store.... As you were.

Couldn't agree more.

Jim Beddard moving on?

They can have their "new tradition"(?) all they want, as long as they continue their old tradition of losing in the playoffs

Glad to hear my meds are working. I did dig this out just to verify. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2009/06/red_wings_pavel_datsyuk_played.html On topic. Maybe we should give some guys a rest. Is it really worth it to risk a key player, for what are really kind of meaningless games. Sure I'd like to finish above the Sharks and eliminate The Hawks all in 2 games. But is it really that important if we lose Pav, Nick, Mule, (add your crucial player here) to do so. Why take the chance. Call up our AHL goons and let them have at The Hawks. :punch: Do we even have Cap room to bring a few guys up? Do we even have any goons? s***.

Michigan-Minnesota Duluth in the Championship!

Was waiting for someone to bite on that one. Touche. :beerbuddy: -
I would have been in agreement with 2 games. I have a feeling they just tacked on the other 2 for two reasons. 1) Torres' reputation as a cheapshotting *****. 2) To set a tone for the playoffs that the headshot rules still apply during the playoffs, and depending on who you are, or whom you play for, you may get suspended if you choose to go headhunting.

I thought it was a Charley Horse??? Am I imagining stuff again? My Doctor wants me to keep a journal on this you know. :looney:

Hope your not an English major. -
Here's a little clip of Gordie in a Whalers sweater. It clearly shows "Gordie Howe" on the back. Just as it did when he played for The Aeros, also. My feelings are to make the sweater as "authentic" as possible, that you need to put both first and last name on it, as that is how it was when he played. On a side note: ( They need to put Mark Howe in the HHOF. He belongs there, dammit. )

So, I think that we are all in agreement that the puck was kicked?? OK. So that kicked puck when it hits the inside edge of the post would put what type of spin on it? Any curlers or pool players here? Even bowlers would understand when a ball starts to bite. The puck would naturally generate a spin that would spin towards the net. Possibly right about the spot where Eva says Hossa's stick touched it. Also, it's almost 8 minutes into the period, how flat and even is a goal crease at that point of game? The puck could be going in any direction at that point. Goalies sure do a great job of roughing the surface in there, don't they. So, the puck travels across the goal line to the goal post where we can see that it is still visibly on the line. At this point Conklin reaches his glove back and pulls it forward off of the goal line. And from comparing the videos to the still photo presented, we are to assume that O'Halloran saw the puck behind the goal line from approximately 12 feet away, while being slightly above the goal line, and apparently being able to see through a 2" thick steel goal post, and the solid web part of the net that is in that spot right next to the goal post on every net I've ever seen used in the NHL. Sounds like someone was a little too anxious to call a goal. I don't see how, from his position, that he could be so emphatic that that was a goal. Maybe Oscar Goldman had a bionic eye put in him too, as well as Steve Austin!!! I feel that the best thing to do in the future, would be to not make any calls on the ice and go to video review on any close or questionable calls. Toronto has a problem with overturning on ice calls, as we have witnessed on several occasions. So maybe they should have the refs not make a call and take it to review. The ref can state his point to Toronto, They can look at the play and see if they see what the ref thought he saw. And then make a ruling based on several eyes looking at the play in question, make a call, without, making the on ice official look bad. It may slow the game down, it may change the tempo, but making the right call in the first place should be the leagues top priority. Without that, it just continues to look like the bush league that it has become. And it's only getting worse.

it looks like they already hosed your video. didn't realize gary and you tube or in cahoots together. I just saw your post and now my suspicions of been confirmed.

Must have taken all our goals with him.

Well, there goes his chance at being enshrined in the HHOF.

Are the Wings going to keep the Hawks out of the playoffs?
BigWillieStyle replied to cupforwings's topic in General
The Hawks have scored 4 goals total, in their last 4 games. They have been shutout twice in that stretch. They lost Brower to a shoulder injury last night, Bolland is out with concussion, and Sharp is not quite ready to return to the lineup, but may be forced into the lineup early if needed. Things don't look all that promising for them right now. As far as The Wings. Unless someone is injured, we have to play our starters. We're trying to get that 2nd seed, and it isn't like them to rest players when position is on the line. I also don't think that they really care who they face in the first round, as they believe that if they play for 60 minutes, that they can beat anyone. -

I don't remember The Hawks being IN the 08 playoffs. It was Nashville, COLORADO, and Dallas, who did a whole lot of heavy lifting that year. ( Anaheim, San Jose ) 09 was Columbus, Anaheim, Chitcacgo. This may help clear it up a little. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xtW8nmxit8&feature=youtube_gdata_player -

Psst... I think you mean Calgary, not Colorado. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone you screwed up. -
New York based writers choosing not to vote on awards this year...

http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/39518-THNcom-Blog-Writers-awardvoting-boycott-wont-compromise-process.html There's a link to Ken Campbell's take on the subject. I was actually shocked to see he didn't bring up another reason to ban fighting in there. But, maybe he did put that in there in hidden code, and I just haven't figured it out yet. -
So Philly lost, while Pensburgh won, bringing the teams 1 point apart with 2 games to go, all while Philly has lost 7 of their last 10 games. Is a division title battle what you would call a strech? Or is that just plain old blind Western homerism I smell? And for all of us who revel in schadenfreude, The Hawks are Wednesdays Versus game of the night.
