Landon Ferraro Signs Entry Level Contract
BigWillieStyle replied to detroitsportsman05's topic in General
Don't undetstand why they would sign him now? He wasn't slated for GR until next year, or at least until he starts shaving. Doesn't seem like good contract management. He'll be off his EL contract by the time he makes the big club, no? Do they plan to keep him in Everett for the season, or is he moving to GR? Too many questions that I don't get. -
We did get a guy that played on the edge of dirty AND was known to fight. You would have thought LGW would be burning the city like Montreal after winning a round in the playoffs.
-
Good on you for manning up. Try it with a little curry sauce. It ain't so bad that way. Advice from someone who has eaten his share of crow over the years, both literally, and figuratively.

Don't forget we were the ones that were desperate to dump salary. While a late round pick would have been nice, we found enough room to bring Lilja back. Or was it Franzen? Both priorities over Leino.

Brunnstrom looked really good in a small sample of games too. But where is he now? I'll reserve opinion until he plays a full year with Philly. But I must say, so far, the change of scenery has done him well. Maybe he finally found a girlfriend.

Stars D Robidas suspended one game for boarding misconduct

The Stars are a dirty team. Their players are classless. Their fans are ignorant blowhards. They didn't resign Modano. I hate The Stars. Signed, Sherri -
Perhaps still a chance for Lidstrom to win another Norris?
BigWillieStyle replied to WMUCarGuy's topic in General
< In play by play announcer voice > Datsyuk feeds back to Rafalski, who onetimes, SCORESSSS, off a tip in from Holstrom who had his ass right in ( insert goalie here ) face and the rest of his body 3 feet from the paint while being dealt a crosscheck from ( insert defender here ). And for some miraculous reason, Dan O'Halloran isn't calling it back. So how would Nick get a point for the above play??? Their PP has been more of the umbrella type as of late, and with Rafalski in the game he usually gets the shooter role on top from a feed back to the line from the forwards on the perimeter. Don't understand how you think having both Nick and Rafalski out there on a PP equates to more points for Nick automatically. Unless of course, we start operating at 50% or better efficiency. Please explain. -
Are hockey hits harder than football hits?
BigWillieStyle replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Too much time off between games. Damn schedule. And yes, Are apple red or are oranges, orange??? -
Congrats on winning tickets. I actually heard your question. I got a big laugh at some of the other calls that they let through. Like, remove hitting from the game, lol, having 4 quarters like basketball, with the last one 4 on 4, make the rinks wider, though I may kind of agree with a slight widening. I don't know how Ken Kal and Caputo can answer some peoples questions without just calling them total morons. Maybe I just take the game a little more serious than most. Enjoy the game, and for curiosity's sake, post where the seats they give away are at. I' ve always been curious.

If he stays at that pace he damn well better win it. He'll have around 94 points. But I'm expecting Rafalski's return to cut into Nick's point total just a little. But it is great to see him off to a good start this year. And nothing would make me happier than to see him tied with Doug Harvey. -
Brendan Smith nails Nylander from behind

Or you can fracture a vertabra, and not know that it has been broken at all. But more than likely, it's because all football players are *******????? Can we exaggerate just a little more. -
Are hockey hits harder than football hits?
BigWillieStyle replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Pretty simple test. How many people have been paralyzed in each sport over a given number of years. NFL vs. NHL to keep it at the top talent level. While it might not tell you which hit is harder, it tells you which sport you have a better chance of getting seriously injured in. One other test, watch a 50 - 60 year old former football player walk around compared to a hockey player of the same age. Gordie at 82(?) moves around a hell of a lot of former football players 25 years younger do. I think over time the constant pounding of football definitely wins, but this is a hockey forum so I'm sure that I'm wrong about that. -
No that would be the continued league support for fringe market teams. But that's a whole new thread there.

It's easy for us armchair referees to make the call while watching it in frame-by-frame video. The refs have to make that call from what they see in a split second while also watching the rest of the game going on in front of them. Also, remember that the league is in their ears about calling these kind of penalties. So, add a guy in a vulnerable position, plus a guy coming at him laterally, plus contact from a shoulder to or near the head equals someone's out of the game. There is going to be a learning curve with this rule for a while, and we're going to see guys booted for perfectly good hits. And probably guys not penalized for actual head shots that should be. I see in the future that these calls will end up going to The War Room to be decided, slowing the pace of play down even more. Remember that these rules were put in place to help protect players, ( and owners investments in them ). That's supposed to be a good thing. Also when I saw the thread title, the first thing I thought was, Mike Brown, and thought go figure.

Brendan Smith nails Nylander from behind
BigWillieStyle replied to 10 Minute Misconduct's topic in General
As well as all the Red Wings are goons threads that this hit starts." Gee, guess we got away with another dirty hit guys, who's picking up the refs bar tab for letting us get away with yet another one." In all seriousness, I hope that Nylander turns out to be alright in the long run with this. His career may be over from this, but he still has a life to live after hockey. I hope that the effects of this hit, don't severely limit his quality of life in 10+ years from now. These type of injuries often pay back long after the original one took place. -
The hit didn't even make the NHL On The Fly highlights from the game. That should tell you how insignificant it was.... But yeah, let every hater have their own little conspiracy theories against us. In other news, it must have been a bumper crop of grapes this year, because I sure hear a whole lot of whining going on.

The NHL loves the carnage, and the publicity. Can't see anything wrong with the hit. CBC had a thing on last night about brain trauma, that I watched this morning. One of the people, I dare say it was MacClean, talked about how the style of hitting today is causing a lot of these head injuries. The kind where the hitter coils and then springs up and through the receiver of the hit. Much like a linebacker would hit a receiver running a route across the center of the field, AKA, a suicide pass. While I feel that Kronwall's hit was perfectly legal and within the boundaries of legal hits in the NHL, these are the kind of hits that will be the next to become illegal in the NHL. A change in equipment and technique are definitely coming. As much as I like to see a good hit, it sucks to see someone laid out on the ice, injured, every night. A check is supposed to separate a player from the puck, not that player from their career. They need to teach respect to todays players or this will become a worse. Just my thoughts, you may now throw stones.

That looked like Setoguchi BEFORE The Sharks score a goal.

I say 35-40. Can't vote from mobile device??? I'm figuring he'll play 70-ish games and have a few streaks where he doesn't net one for 5 games or so. I also feel that he's the best candidate to buy us all Curly Fries.

Surprised at not seeing options for Turco, Fleury, Varlamov, and ( insert Flyers goalie of the week here ), as those are teams whose fans dominate the forums. If that's what they call them. Personally, I'd say Bryz, Miller, and the economic choice ( for now ), would be Jimmy.

First thing that came to my mind as I was reading that drivel. Thanks for posting such a great response. Is that an octopus in your pants, or are you just happy to see me. Sounds like her stepfather did, in the toolshed, while wearing a Wings sweater.

Draper to miss an additional 4-6 weeks

Stacking the lineup for a long shootout??? -
It's not like he was hitting the fan with the fans shoe or anything.

Draper might need surgery; Johan Franzen practices
BigWillieStyle replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Probably a big reason why Rafi was not put on LTIR. The 10 game part of qualification would put us at about 5-6 weeks. I do hope that if Draper is sidelined long term, that they will place him on LTIR retroactive to the first game of the season. The cap savings isn't much, but it should be enough to bring someone up from GR to fill that last spot, whether it be a D man needed or a forward. Right now I'm just thankful for the light schedule and that Mule is close to being cleared to play. -
They also play in Edmonton on March 11th. FYI.
