Canucks and Luongo close to a new deal

Any team that signs a goalie for more than $1,416,666 per year is absolutely overpaying. :goalie1: Just my oh so humble opinion of course.

    Declining interest in hockey-Canada

Here's a story from The Star about the same subject from back in June. From the sound of things, Canada will soon be the soccer capital of the world. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/650776 Sorry for just the link and not the whole story, but my computer skills are just slightly behind my social skills. And I'm also really lazy too.

NHL Investigating Hossa & Pronger's contracts

I can see the NHL top brass at the big meeting table saying, "Damn, we've been outsmarted again. Let's fine someone for being smarter than us. That should fix 'em but good. And we'll make it the Hawks, because they were our next poster team and they've made asses of themselves and they're still smarter than us." "And see if they play a Sunday matinee on NBC, not now they won't. Teach them to be smart." :flamingmad:

    Kessel to San Jose

I can see him in his secret lair now brewing up tomorrows bulls*** rumors. He must have a dartboard with all 30 teams and throws "UFA", or "RFA", or "Trade" darts to come up with some of his preposterous deals. He only gets them right after someone else has already posted a deal. I've purposely blocked my own computer from going to his sight just because it's a waste of my time.

Scotty Bowman 7th best coach of all time

Yes it is. Unless you are younger than 10, lived a VERY sheltered life, Or are a true hockey fan and don't realize that there are other sports out there. Those would be the only exceptions that I can think of. He would probably be my #1 pick also, and I'm not much of a basketball fan. The sport is just too Canadian, and I never got into Canadian sports.

Scotty Bowman 7th best coach of all time

Considering the source, I'm surprised that they even included a hockey coach. Or for that matter even know that there is a sport called hockey. Notice that you have to go all the way down to #37 to find Toe Blake, the next hockey coach they chose to include. And not a single college hockey coach? What a joke. Oh yeah, I forgot, look at the source.

Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings

I wouldn't mind seeing Grier in a Wings uniform, I think he would fit in well, but I have to wonder if his agent is just trying a little salesmanship for his client. He is, as yet, unsigned, and at this point probably looking at a pay cut over last year, but by raising the attention that other teams are interested and that they are talking is just a way of adding false urgency to getting him signed quicker and for a better offer than he might field if he were to just sit around and wait for an offer come training camp time. It would be great to see him come here with a socialist mindset, and take a more modest wage for the betterment of the team, than a capitalist wage for the good of his ( and his agents) wallet. And Doesn't a "Hometown Discount" kind of sound a little socialist also. I mean, who on this earth would ever possibly give up making all the money that they could make with a jumbo contract to take a little less so that their team could stand a better chance at getting some better players with the money you left on the table. That just sounds so un-Red Wing like, doesn't it.

    Jimmy Devellano on Fan 590

He was born here, but grew up in Massachusetts, where he first played hockey as a youth. Not quite what I would call a hometown kid. We could also associate him with knitting, being that his uncle is former NFL star Rosie Grier. http://www.puckprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=33 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Grier Regardless, I think that he would be a solid addition at the right price. But I have noticed in the past few years that he has really slowed down quite a bit. Is that the kind of forward that you want on your PK. Remember, we're all throwing poo on Maltby for basicly the same thing. Just my thoughts. But I do like his hitting ability.

    Whats the deal with Oulahan

Maybe a short trip to Barry Bond's training facility beforehand would help also. Figure he could add 30 Lbs. of muscle in about a month of training with Barry. He does seem like a viable option though. After the Quincey incident, I really have a desire to actually try our draftees out with the big club before we just go and give another team a hand wrapped gift. It would actually be nice to leave enough cap space to be able to bring some Griffins up for a test run without it having to be from LTIR funds. But then again, if we don't spend right to the cap, noone will be able to say we buy our Cups.

    Cody Mccormick

10 minutes on a very weak and very injured Av's team this year. He was often up on the 3rd line due to lack of quality players. I like the toughness factor, but he wouldn't be any more effective than Downey would and he can't crack the lineup either. And, I think we all remember the fight he had with D-Mac in last years playoffs. Not anything impressive in my opinion. I don't think Kenny will buy this one.

Who will man the right point on the second PP unit

Somewhere I can here Cheli saying " I have a right hand shot and I'd love to play on the PP. " "Please! Just one more year Kenny." :deal:
