I agree that Nyquist should stay with the big club. But come playoff time I think the Helm injury really stings because now the Wings are short on centres. Once Franzen returns it would be more ideal to take Emmerton out of the line up in order to keep Nyquist in but then there is no fourth line centre. It would be nice (and potentially realistic) to see: Franzen - Datsyuk - Nyquist Filppula - Zetterberg - Hudler Cleary - Abdelkader - Bertuzzi Miller - Emmerton - Holmstrom/Mursak That's where it's annoying because obviously I'd like Mursak to continue playing but I do also think Holmstrom will be valuable in the playoffs.

Also, for the record, after Lidstrom missed 6 games in the 2007-08 season (injured Feb 18) he returned (March 9) to score 3 goals and 10 assists in the final 14 NHL Regular Season games. During that stretch (of Lidstrom's injured 6 games) the Wings went 2-3-1 by picking up their only two victories in games 5 and 6. Personally, I'm not that converned (yet) with the injuries. What's more concerning is how over the last couple of years the Wings have limped into the playoffs. Last year they went 8-7-4 down the stretch and blew the second seed to SJ. The year before that (2009-10 they had to go on a miracle tear amongst injuries just to secure the fifth seed. It's been a few years since (2008-09) that the Wings have been healthy and playing at top level down the stretch

I doubt that is true. Lidstrom skated briefly before practice which was the first time he was on the ice since the injury occured.

I dont have the link handy but I remember reading that the Wings brass weren't too happy with his lack of use in Sweden this season and will look to bring him over. I didn't mean to make it sound so a matter of fact in the previous post. I meant it more as my opinion. From what I remember the article noted they will try and bring him over. I just see it happening

I thnk your assumptions are pretty accurate. That being said I could see (or maybe I just hope) the Wings being interested in Brown. No way the Kings deal him to the Wings (as they are very possibly first round opponents) but if they did I could see Brown being a perect fit on the Wings. He's 27, has two more years at $3.125M anbd is a 25+ goal scorer.

I absolutely love Dustin Brown and have long wanted him on the Wings. What it would take to get him here, I don't know. I'd also imagine that if the Kings do move him that they would move him to the East. I can't see the Kings, who are battling for 8th in the West, trading Brown to the current 1 seed.

Geoffrion has struggled to put up points but late last season he was a good player for the Preds. This season definitely has not gone the way he would have liked but I dont think people should be put off by his numbers. He's still an intriguing prospect. Slaney will never amount to more than an AHL guy. He was tossed in by the Leafs a while ago and he's tossed in now. I really don't know why they (Poile and Gauthier) even bothered. I think the Habs did pretty well in this deal

You're right. But wouldnt you agree that when it comes to NHL fighters the term 'Heavyweight' refers to the big guys who are the best fighters in the league while the term 'Lightheavyweight' refers to the second tier of guys who fight? I dont think Heavyweight and light heavyweight have anything to do with actual weight when used in reference to NHL fighters

I'm a die hard Wings fan who has the poor misfortune of living in Toronto. I wanted to give any one who doesnt already know that the hotel situation in Ann Arbor is out of control. I literally called about 6-7 places last night trying to place a hold on a room. I was finally able to find a spot and get a room. For anyone who is going to require a room at a hotel you should, as ridiculously in advance as it is, make some calls and reserve a room now. If you're worried about not getting a ticket just find a spot that just uses your credit card to hold the room and not charge a deposit.

If you've ever watched Carter and still think he'd be a great addition (especially considering the cost it would take) then you're the one who needs to watch another sport. This guy plays predominantly on the perimeter, never bears down when the going gets difficult, and quits on plays more often than not. He is extremely overrated. People always are so pumped to trade for 'superstars' but if you look back on so many deals that have been made league wide for these supposed upper echelon type guys the team that receives the package almost always wins - provided there isn't some outside factor in trading the player (i.e Kovalchuk as a pending UFA that wasnt going to re-sign). To me, Jeff Carter would be a mistake on so many levels it's not even funny

I can't believe that everyone is still freaking out about Howard's injury. There is absolutely nothing, right now, to suggest Howard won't be ready for the playoffs. Nothing has changed from prior to the injury to today in terms of the risks/rewards of heading to the playoffs with Howard/Conklin. Do I agree that Conklin has looked shaky more often than capable? Of course I do but that by no means suggests that I think it would be wise to waste assets acquiring a back up. Anything more than a 3rd/4th round pick would be a waste. I'm not even sure I'd want them to send out a 3/4 pick. MacDonald is capable and come playoff time Howard will be ready. For everyone that is arguing 'if Howard is out the Wings are screwed in the playoffs' you should all realize that that's the case for the vast majority of teams in the hunt. The only teams that wouldn't be screwed would be: BOS (Rask) PHI (Bobrovsky) - it's not a significant downgrade from the way bryzgalov has been playing TOR (Gustavsson/Reimer) - lately both have been fine but neither is a significant upgrade over the other VAN (Schneider) SJ (Greiss) although he is unproven (by a long stretch) he has had a good year so far NASH (Lindback) - he's really good but a downgrade from Rinne, but they wouldn't be screwed with him STl (Elliot/Halak) LA (Bernier) MINN (Harding) Of that list the only teams that truly would still be as competitive with or without their starter are BOS, PHI, VAN, STL Even that, PHI would still have as a good a shot only because Bryzgalov has been shaky this year. Normally that would be a big step down to Bob. The situations that BOS, VAN and STL have are luxuries - not necessities

Although he has played pretty well Datsyuk has 0 pts in his last 4 games. I'm all for going with the lines we saw in the 3rd period in the PHO game. Franzen hasn't been too productive lately and I think it's good to see different match ups.

I understand the possible financial concerns. But, to me, that doesn't change my disagreement with you saying all they want is draft picks. Draft picks, other than maybe top 5 in a given year, take time to develop. If they truly need to shed salary then it won't just stop with Parise. They will need NHL ready prospects in return (as well as draft picks).
