The way I explained it is outlined in the rule you quoted. I noted that Zetterberg gave Hanssen a bit of a push. You think the push was enough to warrant a penalty and I don't. But the point is that the rule clearly indicates that the attacking player (Hanssen) needs to make a reasonable effort to avoid the contact. I think Hanssen did not make a reasonable effort and you apparently do. So that's all fine and good. We have different opinions on those two points. But in my mind incidental contact (where the play is blown dead but no penalty to either player is given) is built into the rulebook for such a situation as this one. The ref did not think Zetterberg's push was enough to warrant a penalty. However, Howard was left unable to make an attempt at stopping the puck. The only way that the ref allows this play to go on is that he also believes that Hanssen was forced into Howard and that he also made a reasonable attempt at avoiding the contact.

Honestly, it's just the cry baby attitude that a lot of the Canucks players seem to have. There's an arrogance to some of their players which is unfortunate because at times they (the arrogant, whiney players) can so good.

Yeah, I didnt like the knee/knee hit either. It wasn't a huge deal or anything but yeah, wasn't cool. Honestly, if a lot of the Canuck players weren't such douchebags they would be a much more fun team to watch. Plus, living in Canada any Canucks game that is on I have to sit there and listen to overtly biased commentary. That only makes it that much harder to handle

I literally just said the same thing in the GDT. Whether people believe Zetterberg's 'push' was enough to warrant not calling a penalts Hanssen didn't make an effort to stop either and Howard was left unable to make the save. To me, that's incidental contact
-
Personally, I don't think Zetterberg's 'push' was enough to warrant letting the play go on but I can acknowledge that some may feel as though it was. That being said, I didn't see any attempt at stopping (by Hanssen). I can understand some people not thinking the play warranted a goaltender interference call. However, I cannot understand how if the ref felt Zetterberg gave Hanssen a nudge that this was not incidental goaltender interference. To me, that play should have been blown dead with a face-off in the neutral zone. Also, check out Bieksa's comments: http://video.thescore.com/watch/col-3-stl-2 As cheesy as Kesler's comments (in reference to the hit) were Bieksa's are way worse

Don't get me wrong, Ott can definitely be an idiot. But Laviolette never should have been there (while the Stars were heading to the room) in the first place. If he's too lazy to walk around then he should, at a minimum, allow the Stars to leave first. On top of that, a coach should probably show a little more restraint than that.

I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find hockey fans that wouldn't acknowledge that it's not just the Canucks who dive. Some may not admit anyone on their favourite team dives but as a whole a lot of players do dive. Vancouver got their rep because it's of some of the more blatant, obvious dives. They also are disliked because of the head snapping, constant crying to refs and the attitude a lot of their players seem to have both on and off the ice. Don't be so upset that others out there don't like your team of you as a fan. It shouldnt bother you. But if you truly are looking and judging the canucks from an unbiased standpoint I think you'd be able to acknowledge that incidents like biting, head snapping etc. can turn a lot of people off of the Canucks

Tatar Twitter Speaks for itself...apparently Tatar has been called up

Datsyuk is on a tear. It would be terrible timing. But honestly, I don't know who else it could be. That being said, I guess it could be Holmstrom. Just the way he plays he could have a slight injury that requires a day off

Filppula is going to stay on the wing this season and I think the Wings are stronger for it. That means the Wings bottom six centre options are Helm, Abdelkader, and Emmerton. Just as most posters seem to agree, Emmerton just hasn't done enough. Even though Babcock wants Abdelkader to play wing (and I'd agree that he is more effective on the wing) the Wings are a far better team with Connor as third line winger, Abdelkader as fourth line centre and Emmerton in the press box. I'd agree that upon return of the injured players (Mursak and Eaves) something will happen with Emmerton. Also, I'd imagine that we'll start seeing Holmstrom get some maintenance days as players get cycled in and out of the line up. At that point I would think we'd see a rotation between Holmstrom, Miller, Eaves, Mursak, and Connor for the 3 open slots.

there's a good view from every seat in the Joe too! I was just at the Wings/Jets game and it was awesome. I love how the kids on the ice are even laughing Me too! Well, ever since my massive Detroit Red Wings rug came.

ahh, I would think that would mean they are tied for 29th. But a valid point PPGA players SH TOI Put it into context

No kidding. It'll be interesting to see how the broacast rights and access to the team are split/shared between TSN and Sportsnet as they are obviously each owned by the joining forces of Bell and Rogers, respectively.

Personally, i don't think Shanahan is doing that great of a job. I understand that teams were a little put off with the severity of his pre-seaon punishments so he's potentially changed his M.O and that can give off the air of inconsistency but lately I don't understand. I understand his explanations but I dont understand how he can see what Lucic did to Miller as being ok and what Tootoo did to Miller as not being ok. To me, Fristric's hit was absolutely, 100% clean. I don't think he left his feet during the hit (he exploded up after the hit), to me the principle point of contact wasn't the head, and I don't think he targeted the head.

I've never been a big fan of Selanne's but as most posters seem to agree there is no denying his accomplishments. That being said, I doubt that he ends up leaving Anaheim at the deadline (or any time really). He's won the cup and repeatedly said he only wants to play for Anaheim. He definitely could help a ton of teams but I just don't see it happening. It would add a lot of intrigue to the playoffs though if he were to be traded.

I dont think it's the same to compare North-South to East-West travel. I think the biggest problem teams had with heavy travel was more about playing and travelling in different time zones. Obviously the distance plays into things as it creates longer flights etc. but ultimtaely wouldnt you rather travel 500 miles south than 500 miles west? Also, for the Florida teams it was a trade off. The increased level of travel in order to get the popular (in that area) teams such as the Leafs and Canadiens in their building three times per year as opposed to just once. Plus, if the schedule is done in such a way once the Bolts/Panthers get up to Boston they could play Buffalo, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal without travelling much. It's only the initial distance (and return to Florida distance) that is of concern. Compare that with Dallas (Im sure there are even worse examples) who swings through the Central area teams then has to hike up to Winnipeg before making the long trip back to Dallas.

I thought Ericsson had a couple dumb moments in last night's game against the Blues but I don't see how everyone is still so down on this guy. I'm not saying he is worth his paycheck but I do think he has played a lot better this season than last.

I'm not the hugest fan of the new alignment but it's really not so bad. There are some teams who get a bit of the short end of the stick but overall it's probably an improvement over the current travel demands of a lot of teams. Or at least it's more evenly spread out across the league. The one advantage I do see for the Wings is that by the time they (hopefully) get to the third round 2/3 chance of playing a team in the Eastern Time Zone. Historically (relative past), under the current alignment, the teams that realistically could face off against the Wings in the third round would be something like Anaheim (past), Vancouver, San Jose, and Chicago. Of those teams that the Wings have faced or could face none of them are in EST (with chicago obviously being the closest). I haven't done the math for it but at first glance I'd say that the chances of the Wings going through to the finals (all four rounds) without playing a West Coast team are dramatically better under the new alignment when compared to the current alignment. Also, I know a lot of people would rather not face SJ in the playoffs this year but wouldn't it be sweet to face them in the WCF and eliminate them. That'd be such a sweet way to say goodbye to the Western Conference

Maurice is a nice enough guy but honestly, he's a lazy coach. I live in a suburb of Toronto and there's a bar I used to watch the occassional Leaf game at and no joke, on night's the Leafs lost Maurice would show up at the bar within 45 minutes of the end of the game. The suburb I live in is 30 minutes from the ACC on normal traffic conditions. After a Leaf game the highways are brutal.

Wings to host NHL Winter Classic within next 2 years
mmamolo replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
I feel like whether they were to choose Comerica or the Big House, they really can't lose. I agree that Comerica would have more of a Detroit feel but having 100k fans show up would be absolutely insane. I know the NBC would want major American markets but I think Detroit - Toronto would be the best possible match up. Toronto is obviously a huge market and I think Americans care about the Leafs too. Plus, think of it this way...say the Leafs end up witha strong season and make the playoffs. Then if the Wings were moved to the Eastern Conference the NHL could use the WC to reignite and showcase this rivalry. If it had to be an all american match up I would choose Detroit vs. Boston Damn it Krause, why do we always agree? Are you like my long los brother or something? -
ha, well ya but it's still funny

Now this is funny

See, I don't agree. His corpse, although good, would only really be better than Brett Lebda...but he's no longer in the league.

That is true, if Lidstrom is gone then sure there's more money. But I think we'd all like to imagine a 2012-13 Red Wings team with Lidstrom and some prize UFA or trade acquisition.
