    Bert's role with the team

Exactly - the whole Bertuzzi being slow is just another bad stereotype. I think Babcock is grooming Bertuzzi as another big defensive forward so he can handle big power forwards other teams can throw at us to free up Datsyuk and Zetterberg. It'll put less strain on them on the long run, Bertuzzi matches up physically, and it frees Dats and Z up offensively.

    How Long has Huds got?

Try reading my original post before making uninformed comments in regards to it. Trading cap casualties (which I said Hudler coudl become) or prospects are not giving up on players. Every player you named in that post is one or the other. Obviously at certain points Holland, just like every GM, has traded away some home grown talents but Hollan almost never does it. He especially doesnt do it when they've proven what they can do and the organization believes they can reach that success again. So your point of if you don't produce is ridiculous because each of the guys you listed (with the exception of Leino) never even had the chance. Leino was only moved to clear space for Franzen and if you read comments made by Holland he even said made reference to such. That's not at all how the Fedorov situation played out. Plus, Hudler came out and said the only team he wanted to play for in the NHL was Detroit. We couldnt have fit him under the cap last season anyways. He went to Russia with Detroit blessing. Had he left against Detroit's wishes they wouldn't have accepted his arbitration or at the very least he wouldn't have been welcomed back. It's obviously blind hatred. This guy is a moron The Fedorov situation and Hudler situation aren't even comparable. exactly wow, talk about grasping at straws.

    Ville Leino

Some of the posts in this thread so far sound like sour grapes to me but hey, maybe I'm misinterpreting. Obviously I wanted to see Leino succeed here in Detroit. The guy seemed like he had a tough time adjusting to life in Detroit which is unfortunate and maybe he just wasnt mature enough and needed the kick in the ass the Wings gave him by moving him out of town. We'll never know. I legitimately thought he had the skill set to be a solid NHLer and he seems to be proving it right now but it's still early.

    How Long has Huds got?

Wow, how you can compare the Federov and Hudler situation is beyond me. The Wings couldnt have kept Hudler's money on the books with last's years cap situation as they arbitration process completed Hudler left for Russia with the Wing's blessing. How you all blow the situation up into something it never was is ridiculous. If anything the way it played out was in our favour. Detroit would have had to move someone else (or Hudler himself) last season had he stayed a wing in 2009/10.

    How Long has Huds got?

Hudler will not be dealt. I can say that with almost 100% certainty. Detroit does not give up on players. Hudler will have until his contract expires to turn this around. His role may change and he may not see much time on the ice but he will not be dealt (unless injuries occur and he becomes a cap casualty). He has too much potential and skill; the Wings have way too much time and development invested in him to turn him into a pick or prospects or whatever you'd get for him. He won't be dealt.

Babs says Miller and Eaves will both play

Assuming that blurb actually meant that it is fact both Miller and Eaves are in tonight... Hudler wont be traded. But Wings have virtually no cap space anyways...still, he wont be moved. Very possible they keep Cleary out to be safe. Even if he is feeling fine they may choose to give him a breather since it will make the decision easier anyways. Hilarious... No way does Modano get scratched. It'll be Hudler or Cleary for reasons stated above. My guess is the lines will be: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Filppula - Bertuzzi Abdelkader - Modano - Cleary Miller - Helm - Eaves Lidstrom - Stuart Kronwall - Salei Rafalski - Ericsson

    Jiri Hudler Watch Thread

You are all forgetting one key component to Hudler's game...this season isn't a contract year. He will struggle all season. Then next year he'll put up big numbers just in time for us to re-sign him to an even bigger deal. Then he can say it took him an entire year to readjust to the NHL game. Mark my words....and I'm actually a Hudler fan who's rooting for him

    Clear Injury "Nothing Significant"

ya, he was pissed about the hit. He went to the front of the net and as Kiprusoff covered the puck Clearly clocked Girodano in the back of the head as they fell to the ice. It was kinda funny

    Flames Fans Blame Refs

To me Bouwemeester didn't just lift Abdelkader's stick as he was going to the net. He impeded his progress and dumped him in the progress while Abdelkader didn't even touch the puck. That's interference. That being said, that play does go uncalled a lot of times by the net - especially that late in a game. However, timing of the game isn't really an excuse to not make a call. Just because most often to not calls dont get made at certain junctures of a game doesnt mean people should be so up in arms when refs actually do make a call at that time. The one call I think was weak was the Hagman slash while the Flames were on the 4 minute powerplay. To me that was a make up call because with the Wings down 4-2 Bertuzzi gets a holding call + an additional 2(which at the time I thought was weak because he was side stepping a hit and the player he 'held' didn't even have the pick and then he gets an unsportsmanlike for mouthing off on top of that which seemed unneccesary). Again, we see weak make up calls go both ways all year long. I personally dont like them but it's what happens all the time so you learn to live with it.

11/8 GDT: Coyotes 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

It's true that the Wings normally play like crap after that West road trip but the fact that they stunk the joint out in the 3rd against the Canucks and didn't play well the last time these two teams met they should have some motivation to come out hard tonight. As much as I think they need to find a way to get Hudler going I think he sits tonight. They aren't happy (no pun intended) with how he fits on the fourth line and obviously the third line works so much better with Abdelkader. I think he's gonna sit for a couple games until either someone gets hurt or Babcock feels the pressure to get him back into a game some how.

Franzen will play tonight; Hudler will also

And there's the undisclosed minor injury...

Franzen will play tonight; Hudler will also

Hudler - I dont think you'll see the 3rd get broken up after it took 8 games for them to start clicking a bit. That's not to say you wont see Hudler - Modano - Cleary for a couple of shifts at some point but I think to start we see: Abdelkader - Modano - Cleary Hudler - Helm - Eaves Miller (sitting) Exactly - plus you just get the sense that Hudler would mesh better with Eaves. The speed that Eaves brings should create more space for him. It'll be interesting to see 1. if we're right, and 2. how they mesh

Franzen will play tonight; Hudler will also

Despite Miller's PK ability we do have so many guys that can fill in tonight. Hudler doesnt bring any speed to that line and although Miller isn't slow he clearly is the slowest of Eaves, Helm and himself so I think it makes the most sense to sit Miller out. I think we'll just see some extra PK time from Cleary and/or Filppula in Miller's absense. I would think the only way it's not Miller is if there is an undisclosed minor injury to another (not Franzen) player.

    Coaches Challenge in Hockey

Although I dont like the idea of throwing red flags out onto the ice it would be interesting if coaches could use this idea to challenge goal situations that currently aren't reviewable under the current rules. We've seen some disallowed goals that should have counted because under the current set of rules they arent eligable to be reviewed. That could be interesting at least.

Kronwall needs time in the press box

Kindl does need more ice time to improve but at the same time he has to be held accountable for his play. When he plays like crap he should sit his ass on the bench and watch for the rest of the night like he was forced to do last night. I'm not 'flaming' you for having the opinion that Kronwall is playing poorly but to freak out and make it seem like Kronwall is so terrible right now that he should be benched for multiple games is nuts. Taking it to such an extreme is ridiculous. At least there's some sanity on this board

    Hossa injured

I think you are all missing the real point of this thread...it's not how many cups or finals or WC finals appearances it's been with or without Hossa, Franzen, Kopecky or. The real link to success LEINO. SC Appearance since LEINO deal: PHI 1 - DET 0

Kronwall needs time in the press box

This board blows my mind sometimes. Granted the give away stung but fanning on a pass does not equate to playing poorly. What Kindl did last night was brutal. He had a chance to step up and snuff out the play by grabbing the puck and instead he retreats, steps to the outside and gets burnt badly and gives up a breakaway. Now, I can excuse this because Kindl is a rookie but for the OP to go on about the idea of Kronwall being a healthy scratch fow a few games while the green Kindl gets even more ice time is insane. Although Kronwall as not be insanely good he has been far from bad. The only thing anyone can truly knock him for is his lack of finish on some chances of late. Some of you people on this board of some serious issues with rating the play of players on this team.

    Wings to Eastern Conference Someday?

Detroit should always have been in the East. Even though the East is weaker now that doesnt mean it will always be weaker. There will one day be a power shift anyways so that argument is kind of pointless. Rivalries come and go and the only rivalry we sort of have at the moment in the west would be either Chicago or San Jose, neither of which are crazy. We have more of a rivalry with pittsburgh which can't get any stronger because we hardly play them we wont meet them in the playoffs unless both teams make the finals. I say make the move for the many solid reasons that have been noted in this thread (travel, time zones, and s*** just out of pure geographical logic).

10/28 GD: Coyotes 4 at Red Wings 2

About time someone gave some respect to our 3rd line. They're having a slow start - something Hudler always has. I stil have faith in all three of these players as individuals and as a line. They'll break out if they're kept together long enough.
  20. I'd say their lack of scoring caught up to them in the first round of the playoffs last year against Chicago went their PP couldnt score a goal to save their lives - which literally cost them the series. Even if their PP had operated at a pathetic 10% they would most likely have won that series (they were under 5% I think). So yeah, I'd say their lack of scoring will eventually catch up (just not in the regular season).

    Goalie Poll @ nhl.com

When I read the question I instantly thought Miller. Then when I went to NHL.com I was blown away he wasn't on the list. As good as Brodeur is (obviously) if you're building a team around a goalie (to me that implies long term) he shouldnt even be on this list. Miller all the way

    Luxury Tax System

We actually are talking about a fairly substantial amount of money per team that could maximize this system though. 20% of a franchise player salary - say that player's salary is in the $6-7M range, so 20% of 6M is $1.2M. Then 10% over the cap is just under 6M and then they have to match it. So we're talking approximately $13M dollars.

    Pre-Season Over Analysation

I'd agree with that I think. It also depends on where your team was at last season, where they intend to be now and what kinds of players are in camp. The Leafs, for example, have a lot of new faces and a lot of guys coming off of years where they're looking to improve. You've got a group of forwards fighting for spots and it's a lot more wide open (in some ways) than a camp like the Wings where really only the 14th forward and 7th d spot are open (according to Holland and Babcock in the media). If you really look at the Wings camp the only spot that is really up for debate it's the 14th forward spot. No way Kindl isn't the 7th spot since he'd be exposed to waivers and certainly picked up. So the Wings are using camp as a means to tune up their roster players and look at younger guys who know they are GR bound. Where as the Leafs have many open spots. Their players are fighting not only for roster spots but the guarenteed roster players are fighting for depth position. At least that's one take on it
