First of all, the suggestion to trade Datsyuk for Bergeron and Lucic is absolutely ridiculous. With Lucic's new contract next season they will have a combined cap hit of just over $8.8M/yr. Don't get me wrong, I happen to like Lucic but we're talking about a young, inexperienced guy who seems like he may have injury problems coupled with a guy who has had concussion problems and has never put up more than 73 points in a season and that was in 05/06. Both are good players but not anywhere near worth the value of Pavel Datsyuk. Lastly, this thread has been a joke from the beginning. I vote for its closing.

Dude, I was just joking. Do you, or anyone else knnow, exactly how the cap is calculated? Assuming it's based on revenue you'd imagine it would work out as a percentage of total revenue. If that were the case, the percentage woudl have to be based on number of teams contributing to that revenue. So I would imagine that if the league contracted, meaning fewer teams, that percentage would go up due to the loss in revenue. But maybe IM making a mistake, id otn know

Right now Howard is the man. In my opinion, I'd much rather he didn't win the Calder anyways. That's a lot of pressure for a goaltender to come back to next year. Plus, with the inconsistency issues Howard has faced throughout his pro career that could be troubling. I'd much rather he continue to develop, cotninue to work hard and become the goalie we all hoped he would when he was drafted some five years ago. Just like most players on Detroit teams (until recently with Datsyuk's recognition) I'd rather Howard be a stud and be underrated in this league.

A few comments: Although Crosby disgraced our arena by lifting the cup there under no circumstances do i want him to be the last person to raise the Stanley Cup at the Joe. I do agree that a lot of fans go to games for the entire experience. It sucks for us true hockey fans to see one of the last traditional buildings set to be removed. It was harsh to see Maple Leaf Garden go (I live in Toronto) and I hated the Boston Gardens going too. The Joe gives you a real hockey atmosphere and I'd hate to go see Wings games at a new age, modern arena. Unfortunately, the average hockey fan enjoys tha tmore than I do and eventually we'll have to face the sad facts that that will happen. One thing I can guarentee is that when the Joe is torn down I am buying a f*** load of seats as theyusually get auctioned off. Also, with grandparents in Windsor, although it is a hole, it would be a cool thing for them to host an exhibition game. Personalyl I hope the Wings do not play out of Auburn Hills. I'd want them to remain in downtown Detroit no matter what. On an unrelated note, anyoen hear about those guys from North York, Ontario who bought the Pontiac SIlverdone for $500,000? Now that's f***ed. Slap an ice pad down and let's have the first 60,000 seated hockey rink in the league. Boom! That'll kick start the economy!

As much as I like both Leino and Abdelkader they just cant score at this level yet. If that second line can play responsibly in their own end and generate some grinding chacnes then we should be happy. We need Pavel and Hank to really get hot here.

Persoanlly I would like a 24-26 team league. There is an optimal number of teams that would create a situation where 4th liners are dropped and skill players dont necessarily leave for Russia or wherever. Regardless of player movement I'd prefer a slightly smaller league. Also, not to change the subject, but Detroit should be in the Eastern Conference and that could be accomplished with league contraction. Detroit has been screwed with travel for far too long. Not to mention the rivalries we miss out on with the Leafs and other EC teams.

Not if you eliminated teams that lose revenue as opposed to earn it.

The rule is flat out dumb. Even if you ignore the fact that refs have their whistle on their lips redy to blow the play dead in tight situations it literally takes less than a second to raise your arm adn blow the whistle. What kills me is the logic behind this rule. If you're intent is to blow the whistle now why is it in your hand by your side and not in your mouth? What stopped you from blowing the play dead when you intended to as opposed to when youa ctually did? It doesnt make sense. It creates a huge grey area which is unneccesary. Plus, wasn't it the intention of the league to increase scoring coming out of the lockout? Why put rules in place that take goals away? Not to mention the fact it is a non-reviewable play, which is absurd. The play should be dead when the whistle blows. Period. THen that way plays are reviewable and there is a concrete basis to understand if a goal shoudl be counted or not. This rule puts too much power into one man's hands and creates too much potentiial for human error, which we've all seen on countless occassions this year.

Losing Granderson is a huge blow. He was by far my favourite Tiger and it's obvious it was just a salary dump. It also sucks we lost Placido Polanco. He still had a lot of gas in the tank. Either way, we're not going to be all that competitive this year I woudl imagine. The Yanks (my second favourtie team) will again contend and take it home with Granderson being a 30-30 man, yet again. Just because he hasn't put up 100 pts doesnt mean he is not capable. Just because I havent stripped naked and ran through my office like a crazy person quitting my job doesn't mean I'm not capable of doing it. Whether Carman is a troll or a douchebag his posts are a waste of time. From now on I'm not responding to any of them. Not only is his schtick lame but it's gotten so boring now. He had his funny moments by getting ppl riled up but now it's repetitive and boring. I'm done with him.

I am blown away at how much ppl know about his personal life. At least ppl offered some interesting perspective. Speaking of knowing too much about ppl's personal lives; the reason why Pronger left Edmonton was because he was cheating on his wife with an early 20 something and she supposedly got pregnant. Progner's wife made him chose between her and paying the girl off or getting a divorce. Part of the deal was that they had to leave Edmonton so they'd never have to deal with the girl again.

How big of an impact would Hudler be having on this season's team.
mmamolo replied to a topic in General
Well, you're definitely right, we wouldnt have been able to sign either of Todd Bertuzzi or Jason Williams. Hudler's cap hit woudl have been $2.85M/yr if I remember correctly so we would have still signed Eaves in my mind. I think we would have seen a big difference on our second PP unit with Hudler in the line up. Ppl can say what they want about Hudler's decision to go to Russia but they can't deny how much stronger he made our second PP unit. We don't have any natural goal scorers on that unti as we speak and his ability to find the net would go a long way. Our PP units would have been something like: Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Lidstrom - Rafalski Franzen - Filppula - Hudler Kronwall - Stuart(or whomever) That is a lot more dangerous than: Cleary - Abdelkader - Bertuzzi But it goes with the style and stratgey. Right now we're looking at a second PP unit as one that will grind it out, try and get garbage goals and have sustained pressure. With Franzen - Filppula - Hudler they woudl have been a puck control group with some finesse. Either way, it's all changed up again anyways with Cleary going down for four weeks. As far as Hudler coming back. As I remember he signed a two year $10M deal which pays him $5M/yr and he had an out clause after year one which means he'd be free to return to Detroit next season if he chose to. In my mind he'll play in Russia next year as well. He seems to be putting up very solid numbers and I don't see him walking away from that cash, tax free, to make about half in Detroit. In my mind, he'll play next season in Russia and then he'll have soem increased confidence and think it's his time to come back to Detroit and be one of their top guys. Which is possible but who knows right now, he could very well love it over there, love the money, the less physical play, and end up staying in Russia for the rest of his career. -
First of all that reply was hilarious. Sadly, his response to your reply was tear jerking. For the record, no way in hell do you move Datsyuk. Not only is he still, despite this slow start, one of the ebst players in the league he is an absolute bargain at $6.7M/yr

Lunfqvist, hands down is disgusting. He's of the same calibre a pick as Datsyuk and Zetterberg

So I was just checking out some stas from various KHL teams and I came across Danny Markov. I've never been able to understand why this guy couldnt stick with an NHL team. I loved when we had him for a year and was pissed when he left. I live in Toronto and got to watch him a bunch with the Leafs years ago and I've never been able to understand why no team would hold onto this guy. Does anyone know? Was he trouble in the lockerroom? Did he always want more money than he was worth? What was it? He floated between Toronto, Phoenix, Carolina, Philadelphia, Nashville and Detroit all in an 8 or 9 year period. He's since been playing for Moscow Dynamo. The guy is only 33 years old. I just dont get it. hockeydb.com - danny markov

No way it happens now. I could see Holland checking things out earlier in the season in case Howard didnt work out and he as forced to replace him. He'd want to know what the price would be. But now there is zero reason for Detroit to get a goaltender. Im surprised they said the Blues are interested. Both Mason and Conklin are solid but what do I know
-
It's not that everyone has forgotten about him...it's just that we don't care All joking aside, yeah we could use him, to a certain extent, but his lazy back checking and being easily knocked off the puck aren't things we need at the moment. Although, considering we had Stuart and Meech on the second PP unit him being in the line up wouldnt hurt our PP
-
This is just unreal. I can't remember a year where we've even come close to having this much trouble with injuries. Ideally we're getting all of our injuries out of the way now...as opposed to spring time
-
No one will be called up. Leino will be reinserted into the lineup if Cleary misses any time.

Random link I found this link claiming Holland extended a $2.5M offer but wouldnt go any higher.

GOtta give the guy credit. If he can play competitively at 51 that is impressive.

That may be the funniest line I've ever read on this site. It's funny because it's true. There's a lot of schtank on this site for sure. I've seen many ppl wonder about Carman and the potential for trolling. I've onyl been a memeber of this site for maybe 6 months or so but throughout that time I can tell you that Carman has made soem outrageous cliams and then keeps beating a dead horse. Personally I think he/she just has radical (and sometimes absurd) opinions and ideas and is too stubborn to think anyone knows better. For the most part I just ignore what he/she posts because it rarely constructively contributes to the thread.

This thread is absolutely on the money. But this is usually the sign of a mid range team (with all the injuries we have we can only really see ourselves somewhere in the middle). Mid level teams can either score goals in bunches and have trouble on D or they can keep the puck out of their net but have trouble putting some on the board. What should really be encouraging to ppl on this site is that the bulk of the players we currently have on the LTIR will only help our offence. Franzen, Kronwall, Filppula, and Williams will all boost our offence. If our team D continues to perform as it has we'll be in great shape down the stretch.

That article just touched on the possibilities of Radulov returning to the NHL (with the Preds) in general and how the whole situation could play itself out. There is no mention of Radulov actually considering this move, let alone making the move, let alone the Wings beign interested in trading for him, let alone the Preds wanting to deal him within the division. Obviously, he's sick and it'd be cool to have him on the team but I think the chances of it happening are so incredibly small at this point it's not even worth hoping for.

I just about burst into tears when I read Meech with a goal.
