I realyl don't think the Wings woudl sign someone and then toss him on waiver/minors. Even though putting Williams through that would be the best option available at that stage I just dont see it happening. Either way, Hudler won't be here this season.

There's a difference. Personally I felt that the NHL wanted it's poster child to win a Stanley Cup and did it's share to help him do it. Some may not agree with that but I felt the same thing the year ebfore despite the Wings winning. I don't think the NHL will want to help because it's the Wings but they have a vested interest in what happens with Hudler. The NHL wants to protect its assets and commodities in spite of him playing for Detroit. If the NHL doesn't try and fix this situation what happens when another Alex Ovechkin comes along and dominates the league only to leave as an RFA for the KHL?

I didnt say it was an excuse. Nor am I, or was I, defending his actions. I'm simply saying that with drinking I can see how situations like this can happen. Again, it's not an excuse but a partial reason. Im not even saying Kane isn't an *******. I believe that the actions that come out when you're drinking are rooted in your sober personality to begin with. Only difference is while sober we're in control and refrain from doing certain things. Personally from what I've seen I dont think he beat the cabbie up. Even assualted may be too strong a word for me to use when describing what he did. He broke the guys glasses and gave him a bump. Ppl might disagree with that and again I admit that I may be misinformed on what happened but I think ppl are being way too harsh on this guy. I'm not defending him by any means. I agree, he's an *******. What he did was disrespectful and so on. But unfortunately there are a lot of disrespectful assholes out there and there are ppl who have done much, much worse than Kane and ppl still let it go. I'm jsut saying in the greater scheme of things what he did wasn't that horrible. Personally, I've never assulted someone but even now at my age, 25, I see a lot of ppl get drunk and do stupid s***. I've done my fair of stupid s*** too but by no means would I hope one mistake that someone makes against them forever. Alcohol and money don't excuse his actions but, for me, it seems like everyone is being too harsh on him. Maybe it's possible that some ppl in this Red Wings forum are being overly harsh on one of our already hated rivals.

NTC definitely make it tough but ideally, for me, I would rather see Rafalski get moved than Stuart. Bigger Cap hit, better return and I would rather not lose any toughness on our back end. Rafalski is sick and has done very well since coming here but he is getting older, he turns the puck over and I think Kronwall will be able to make up for some of his lost offense on the PP if given a spot on the first unit. Plus, Kindl can put up offensive numbers so when he is ready to make the jump to the NHL we'd ideally get some additional offense from him.

Even though at this stage I think I would want Hudler too I dont think we should undervalue the player Filppula can become. Also, the contract struggles with Hudler are an issue. Filppula is a very strong all around player and signed long term. It'd be tough to want to move anyone at this stage to fit Hudler back in, as much as I still do like him and want him in Detroit.
-
Personalyl I still like Hudler and would want him back, just not this year. I definitely do not want Stuart traded (NTC or not) and I cant see who else they could move. I think if Hudler tries to come back to the Wings now the NHL will step in. Discussions will have to be held because the WIngs were put in a position where they waited as long as they could to fill his spot, signed new ppl, and now may be forced to move other players to fit Hudler back in. Obviously the NHL believes Hudler is still obligated to his NHL franchise but I dont think they'd want to set a precedent with a poor handling of this situation. If the NHL doesn't come to the aid of the Wings, in this particular situation, I think you'll see GMs and Owners upset with how it's handled. The Wings were handcuffed by the Hudler situation and if the NHL is the only entity against Hudler going to the KHL this year (the Wings are not) then if they are they driving force in having Hudler back on the Wings they should aid in figuring out a fair resolution to the Wings roster situation.

He'll find a spot somewhere sooner or later

Vancouver is already very strong defensively. I dont think it would hurt them to bring in an offensive minded defenseman like Matthieu Schneider. If they see him playing in their 5-6 pairing and then getting some PP time he could really be an asset to them.

Can someone explain exactly what he did to 'beat up' the old man? Maybe Im missing some information here because from what I saw on tv and read up I would think the term 'beat up' is a little overboard.
-
Personally I dont know all the details about what Kane did to the cab but from what I saw I would hardly call it beating him up. Obviously I may be missing some information but I wasn't implying it's normal for 20 year olds to go beating ppl up. I was saying that this is the type of mischief that a lot of 20 year olds get into. For you to say that you are respectful to all people, especially adults is fine, but you can't sit there and tell me there has never been a situation where you weren't, especially while drinking. Obviously I'm not saying EVERY 20 year old goes out and gets wasted and causes s***, but there certainly are a lot of ppl who do. Now imagine how much more easy it would be to get into that type of trouble when you have the amount of money Kane does. Most 20 year olds maybe have a grand in the bank. This kid has hundreds of thousands, if not more, and it's a big, sudden adjustment he has to make. I'm not making excuses for the guy but I can understand how things like that can happen. At the end of the day it's only news because he is famous. This sort of thing happens way more than ppl acknowledge. It's only because Kane is famous that ppl get up on their high horse and try to make an example out of him. Personally, I think he made a mistake and hopefully he has the right ppl around him to guide him beyond this.

I really think Cleary has a more than reasonable shot at 30 goals this season. I think when we see the passing of the guard when Lidstrom retires and most likely Zetterberg is named Captain I think we see Cleary get an 'A'. This guy is well spoken, leads by example and is willing to put his body on the line to make plays. He has everything you could ask for in a hockey player. He may in fact be one of the most versatile players on the Wings roster because he fits in absolutely anywhere you want to plug him and makes his line better.
-
I really don't understand why ppl would be willing to dump Hudler at seemingly any cost. I get how soem of you wouldn't want him back but I've read posts where ppl want to waive him, trade him for nothing, just to get rid of him. Sure, he wanted more money but he also wanted a higher spot on the team. I dont necessarily agree that he deserved it but that's what he claims he wanted. Personally I still think he'd be a good re-addition to our team. I think he'd put up some very solid numbers and he'd shore up our 2nd pp unit. For me personally I would welcome him back just as Holland has said he would when his KHL contract was up - hence signing him to a two year deal.

It shouldnt be a big surprise that this is how the Patrick Kane situation was resolved. Even though what Kane did was pretty ridiculous we should all remember that the guy is only 20 years old. He's immature, arrogant, and has a lot to learn about treating fans (kids more specifically) properly, ppl properly and not being a little *****. That being said, he is young and unless I'm missing some information what he did to the cabbie wasn't anything more out of the ordinary than what happens most weekends when 20 year olds go out and get s*** face wasted. It doesn't excuse his actions but I don't think he should be crucified for it either.
-
I'm sorry, you're free to have your own opinions and everything, but you sounded like a complete idiot in that post. That was a very subjective outlook on that series. Not to mention how you could say that Seabrook is better than Lidstrom with a straight face is ridiculous. But fair enough, to each his own.

I agree, his money calcs dont add up bud
-
True. But even ignoring that I'd be interested to see how his money plans are worked out. It doesnt seem possible in my mind so Im curious

I don't see why this is such a big shock to some ppl here. Right off the bat it seemed unlikely that the IIHF would immediately grant Hudler's transfer card. THat doesn't mean they won't eventually grant it though. I think this sets a precedent though. I think that the NHL/KHL/IIHF need to get on the same page about the NHLs restricted free agents, especially those that file for arbitration. Obviously the NHL feels that when someone files for arbitration that is a contractual commitment to play next season with their respected teams; the KHL disagrees. The IIHF wouldn't grant the transfer card immediately because then they essentially are agreeing with the KHL. But not granting the card right now they're staying pat and not getting in the middle of thigns until it's decided. Even though the Wings are fine with Hudler leaving and retaining his NHL rights for his potential return that doesn't mean the NHL is ok with him leaving, despite this s***ty situation it puts the Wings in. Personally, I don't see how Hudler won't end up playing for Dynamo this year but I'm not surprised at all to hear that the IIHF has yet to grant him a card. Also, if somehow he did return to the Wings I realyl don't think he would be traded. Despite his offensive numbers and potential his value is low at the moment and Holland wouldn't get much in return for him I don't think. Holland also doesn't strike me as the type of GM to just dump a guy for an undervalued return. It's a realyl s***ty spot the Wings are in regardless of if Hudler returns or not. It puts us over the barrel in signing any UFAs and there is the slightest of chances it could really put us between a rock and a hard place if he is forced to return.
-
Granted Stuart doesn't fight but he is a tough, stay at home defenseman. At $3.75M/yr I don't think you can do any better.
-
Still absurd to think Kronwall got 5 and a game for that hit. Especially considering Byfuglien comes crashing in and elbows kronwall in the hit and gets nothing. It's the same old story in the NHL, inconsistent officiating.
-
That wasn't mean to imply Chelios didn't have great years in Detroit but I think you got my point. The list is huge, the amount of players having played in Detroit not in their career years, and could go on and on. To the guy who said he hadn't seen Luc Robitaille's name check my original post bud
