Exactly, at least for the short term I see Gus being in GR. Helm on IR and it's one of Eaves, Tootoo, Sammy or Bert that get cut. If they can move two then great but think one is more realistic and would see Gus play a little more AHL than needed.

I hope you are wrong, love Tats! With Helm recovering well (fingers crossed) Emmers time is likely up. Ferraro would be able to offer the depth from GR as well as Jarkrok. Emmer brings nothing, low cap hit is only plus point.

I totally agree with you re: Sammy, when I said he would at risk I meant regarding a roster spot rather than trade value. The moves this summer definitely aren't finished but we'd be foolish to get rid of the likes of Tatar and Nyquist

If I remember rightly it was 30th picks that were taken as part of the first round, there's only been 30 teams for a comparably short time only a handful of 30th picks in the first round have seen any NHL ice time.

I'm of the opinion that if we want to improve and have a legit chance at the cup we need to change the roster. Does that mean Flip is the odd one out? Well the fact he asked 5+ million over 7/8 years it certainly makes it easy for the Redwings brass to cut him loose. He simply isn't worth that, but even if he asked for 3.5/4 million for 3 years would our team progress if we signed him back? I don't think so, I think we'd be back where we started.

Is Tomas Jurco not playing in GR?

Babs has never liked to change a winning lineup in the playoffs, so after the last week where everyone turned up there won't be any changes. I would think it would be hard to swap in some cold guys to improve the lineup. Especially the older guys like Bert and Sammy, if Helm were fit then he's an energy guy and may have had a chance but I wouldn't any rash changes to lineup in first few games of the series.

Really hope he wins the Art Ross, saw him score a hat-trick the other night and he was the star of the show, certainly not just benefitting from playing with Stamkos.

I remember having a similar discussion about Ovechkin a few years ago, I would love to see Gretzky's record broken but given the way the league is at the moment don't see it happening. What set Wayne apart was his incredible consistency, obviously we can argue about pad size etc but think that Stamkos and Crosby have grown up with the bigger pads so they know how to work round that. With the salary cap and, as above, the nearing retirement of St Louis, Stamkos' production may suffer a bit. It would a blockbuster deal for him to move elsewhere so he's stuck with Tampa for the tome being and his natural ability will only get him so far. I hope I'm wrong, I love to see records broken but don't think it will happen.
