This was a big game. The USA won. Canada choked. Canadian fans go into "this game doesn't even matter" mode, just like the World Junior Championship. No, USA has not won gold and nobody says we have. But, Canadian fans pretty much talk like their team had won gold before the tournament even started. Great win by USA!

some parents are nuts... Locker-boxing is a part of hockey locker rooms. Nobody is looking to kill the other person, just to put up a decent fight with another teammate.

Yeah it is.... It looks like I'm watching a squirt hockey game: slow, no checking, weak goaltending. However, I don't think women could handle the hitting aspect of the game. I defiantly would agree that it would make it more entertaining, but a lot of those women are very small. I remember during the Olympics at the Torino games watching a women put an average body check on another women in the boards. The girl went to the ice and was CRYING for 5 minutes. She was fine and continued to play, but it seems like their pain threshold is pretty low (not all, but a lot). This happened more then one time, a girl getting hit and going down crying. Think about it. You would get some decently sized American or Canadian women hitting some undersized Chinese women and she is going to go down. I feel hitting is not in women's sports for a reason... It would make the games much more entertaining to watch though, but I just don't see it happening.

I agree. It almost seems like they are just playing a scrimmage out there. They are passing too much, trying to make the perfect play, rather than shooting and driving the net. Like you said, all the players for the Russians are guys that hold on to the puck all game and make a lot of plays. They just don't mesh together..... yet. If this team figures out their problem, they will be very hard to beat. however, I still don't think they will win gold, or even make it to the finals. It will be USA v. Canada. sorry pav.

I know in USA hockey, if a penalty shot is called for a player covering the puck in the crease, the coach has an option of a 2 minute penalty or a penalty shot... However, if the teams had a choice, they would NEVER take a penalty over a penalty shot... the shooter always has the advantage and you are guaranteed at least one scoring chance... Think about it. You play the entire game to get quality scoring chances. The ultimate quality scoring chance is a one on goalie breakaway. If awarded a free breakaway, no team would turn it down... That would be idiotic IMO.
