I propose we make a trade for Derek Boogaard. Nobody would dare mess with us with him and May in our lineup.

You mean to tell me you don't know what a 4-6-3 double-play is?

From a business standpoint, sadly, if they estimate increased earnings from a new arena, they will do it whether you don't like the new look and experience or not. It's all about the benjamins. EDIT: I read what you said wrong, but my point still stands.

The 5 best and 5 worst draft picks of the last decade
dropkickshanahans replied to a topic in General
Rafalski was signed before this decade though, wasn't he? -
He's talking about the 0-0 snooze fest that we call soccer.

Like who? The way our bottom lines have been, I'm hoping Babs puts Flip on the second line so he can move Zata up with Dats.
-
I wonder if this has the same explanation for Leino's performance on the ice.

I disagree somewhat. Sr. might not care as much, but I seen Ford Jr. actually listened to the fans and made some changes. Our new GM Mayhew is the next Scott Pioli (or the equivalent of Ken Holland) IMHO. I like the direction they are going. At first I didn't think that with our recent draft, but now I understand why they made the picks they did, and for good reason, and so far they've seem to pay off.
-
I actually trust our GM, but that's not much to say since any GM is better than Millen. But yes I agree, I actually believe they're turning a corner through drafting after watching how they performed this season.

It's alright. But to you question, after Losing Granderson I don't think I could bear to see Datsyuk leave too. Come to think of it, what a s***ty year for Detroit sports. We lose Billups prior and the Pistons sucked, Wings lose game 7, Tigers collapsed and lose the tie-breaker and then just traded away Granderson, new Pistons and Wings are injured and struggling this season, and the Lions are the Lions as I sit there and watch our future QB get hurt like the third time this season. At least they won't go 0-16 again.
-
You getting this idea because of the Granderson trade?
-
I buy it, considering the amount of workload the Wings have done over the last two years, I think we now have the most injuries in the league. As for the Penguins, they're a younger team. Their legs can handle the workload, except Gonchar.

Why are the Wings Afraid to Block Shots?
dropkickshanahans replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I remember earlier in the season when Ericsson blocked a shot during a PK, which hurt him pretty bad and he was basically crippled and useless out there, eventually resulting in a goal. I think he's a little shy to block shots now. I think it has more to do with the coaching. What has our blocked shots total been in recent years? I think the system is more keen to our players sound positioning and forcing the opponent outside and disrupting their cycling, basically taking the option of getting a shot off a priority. -

When you look at a runningback in the NFL, which has a shorter season than our other major sports, there is a limit to how many carries and touches he should reach. If that limit is overdone, as we've seen from Larry Johnson (who broke a record for carries with 416, and also adds an extra 41 receptions for a total of 457 touches) and the runningbacks that have preceded him, their body wears immensely whether they know that or not. Typically, the season after they do not have good production, and are often injured from being too worn. And that's in a shorter season with a longer layoff. So there was a point to what he was trying to say. He's not saying he wants the team to tank, but he's saying that if they did not make the playoffs that he'd be fine with it knowing that those extra two months off would help the players' bodies recover physically and most of all mentally. It amazes me that players in the NHL can grind it out that long for how much of a beating they take game in and game out. After watching these Wings the past couple years, we had a long season from October all the way to June, a couple months off, training camp and practice, then the season starts again, play from October all the way to June again, same teams, lose in Game 7. A couple more months off and bam they're back to training camp, practicing and playing in the regular season again. And I knew from coming into this season to lower my expectations, because after two long grueling years and a step older, on top of the effects of losing Game 7 of the finals could be, and with the talent we lost and the little scrap we could add, this will be a long season for them. People can say all they want that they show no desire or heart, but I personally believe that they're worn and just don't have that extra push in their legs this season, whether they know it or not. Can't say the same for the Pens since they have a much younger team than us. Their legs can deal with that long journey still. -
It happened to the Yankees last year, so you never know.

Because I hi-jacked the thread a couple pages ago with a simple comment that had nothing to do with the prior conversations. Look what I've done! I knew someone would bite (Eva), and I knew Carman would drag it on

Top 10 Goon moments of the past decade
dropkickshanahans replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
1) Cheap shot and slam head into ice 2) Two-handed baseball swing to head 3) stepping on someone with a skate That's how I rank which is worse (ranked by how long the injured player can be out for), and considering the internal injuries caused by #1 when they least expect it coming, and has ended careers, I don't see how you think stepping on someone is worse. #2 and #3 could be flip-flopped, but a two-hander to the head just seems worse IMO, even with a helmet on. -
Crosby is better than Ovechkin.

I'd like them to try for Volchenkov. -

Too bad we couldn't have picked up Afinogenov in the offseason. What a steal the Thrashers got. I remember a thread awhile back about us wanting to get him too but everybody was against it.
