Pat Lafontaine wants a few rule changes
dropkickshanahans replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
I don't like it. It takes away the importance of special teams. It just overall sounds ridiculous when a weaker team suddenly has a chance to come back down 2 goals to tie it up. This would be terrible during playoffs. Sure it sounds exciting, but it's definitely a major momentum swinger. It's already hard enough to win the Cup, don't need to make it any harder. I'm on the fence though about all 2-minute penalties should be majors. I kinda like it, I kinda don't. It would definitely put more emphasis on special teams. -
Same as me almost, except Scotty Nieds is my third favorite non-wing player. I could just imagine how great we'd be with Lidstrom and Niedermayer. I'm also going to the game this Saturday. I was debating on either going tomorrow to watch us against Chicago, but I can't pass up the opportunity to watch Ovechkin on a day off of work.

Canucks to file tampering charges against Leafs
dropkickshanahans replied to CenterIce's topic in General
So you can file tampering charges over comments made almost 4 months ago? I doubt anything comes of this, we don't know if Burke intentionally did this whilst someone ran with the information, it hasn't affected anything now and I don't think tampering is an issue when the head coach makes comments about wanting to pursue the Sedins when they're in the market at that time. That part could've been taken out of context for all we know. -
hahaha. maybe if he was talking about Leino then 30/80 wouldn't sound as bad.

What needs to be improved after 2 games?

1a) Goaltending 1b) Penalty Killing -
All I see in this thread are a bunch of people being trolled successfully.

I only saw the 1st period and the last 13 minutes of the 3rd so I can't say a whole lot except that our checking lines looked really effective.

I just don't like looking at Tyler Kennedy's face. Other than that I don't care what team I watch besides the Wings-- all hockey is entertaining. Well, except for L.A.

He was my all time favorite. I miss the days when he'd net a goal and the Joe would play that Irish tune. Best of luck to him if he finds a team that suits him. It's funny how all these years later I still remember this commercial.

I'm not really sure what's so hard about reading it; I bolded my responses. I'm also not sure how being good or bad at english has anything to do with the way I responded here. So you're telling me that saying what I want to say outside the quote makes me better at english? Okey dokey...

I think it's an above average scoring line but still one of the best compared to others. I believe last year with Hossa on the top line working with Dats we weren't as effective 5 on 5 as in recent years, but our PP was great. I expect the same this year if Babs does reduce time on our first two lines like the other poster mentioned he would do. As for Flip, he's reached 20 goals before I believe, and if there's good chemistry between him and Leino I could see a 20g 30a season from Flip give or take.

Am I missing something with Vancouver? They're picked as favorites by some but I thought they lost much needed depth offensively and defensively after signing the Sedin twins?
-
I can't decide what to watch between WAS/BOS and MTL/TOR. I'm leaning towards the latter.
-
Too many people on the Philly bandwagon. I'm surprised the other three didn't pick Chiacgo as well. On ESPN Melrose has Chicago and Philly and Barnaby has Washington and San Jose

I thought Kovalchuk resigned with the Thrashers? I coulda swore he got a 5-6 year extension at some point this year. Either way, I wouldn't risk it, so no I don't think he would go for another long term deal with a top tier player. Kinda too late for me to think about it (plus I don't have a full grasp of how contracts work per year to how it would affect the future roster, too lazy to even care) but it seems to me that doing that would drastically affect our future roster, or at least it would be up in the air instead of being prepared. After next season we gotta worry about Lidstrom of course, but if he don't return then I'd like that money to be used accordingly with our defensive needs depending on production as well as our 3rd and 4th lines as well as think ahead of how some players will turn out once others are FA, like Leino for example. But no worries, I know Holland already has this figured out and will sign/trade/resign to make us competitive year in and year out. Gotta love our system.

Tired of Reading How Great Pittsburgh will be this Season
dropkickshanahans replied to Hank's topic in General
I think all of you should show some class instead of being a bunch of biased homers. The refs didn't give them the game at all. We had two chances to put away the series but couldn't. Despite shutting down their top scorers, we couldn't get the goals we needed from our top scorers (I'm looking at you Hossa). They were just the hungrier team that came out on top and deserved it just as much as we did if we had won. Both goalie's played outstanding, and I'm sold on Fleury. Why wouldn't I be? He's made it to the SCF two year's in a row. Finally won the 2nd time. He was facing a game 6 and 7 elimination and rose up to the occasion as the best player in those final two games when everyone though he couldn't handle it mentally. So he definitely solidfied himself and his teammates won't have a problem anymore believing in him to make the saves when they need it the most. With that said I don't see why they won't be favorites to make it back to the SCF when they have such a young, talented team. It's gonna be hard for sure, but they have such a great system now that they believe in that I don't understand why people would be so surprised to see it happen again. In fact, I hope they do so we meet up with them again to settle the score; the best out of 3. But in the meantime, stop being such homers and making excuses that the refs helped them or that we were injured and tired, because looking at our depth and the position we were in to actually win it, I'm not buying it. They fought back and stuck it to us in the end, and that's all there is to it.
