Entertaining game. It felt like a playoff game to me. It just sucks that they lost though. I do feel Howard is playing better and better and was especially encouraged with his game tonight. -

Fun period but I wish the team played a little more responsibly. Rangers controlling the play for the most part and have 35 shots on Howard already, who's been great. -

Last replay was the best angle. Kronwall gets his stick in there one-handed, lifts Nash's stick off the puck, Nash mysteriously falls down. -

2010-2011 drafts will be our savior
dropkickshanahans replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
According to RWC, Melen has been diagnosed with an acute respiratory disease after experiencing extreme fatigue and will miss the rest of the season. I don't know much about this or how it will affect him in the future, but from the sounds of it he's seeing the #1 specialist in Sweden and it's something he can overcome? Hakan Andersson said he's optimistic he'll be able to return by training camp next season. Perhaps someone with more knowledge about the disease could shed more info about it. -
Well I just recently bought it and haven't gotten into the large scale battles, but my favorite thing to do in Bad Company 2 and Modern Combat was dump all of my C4 on a vehicle, drive it into an enemy tank or a group, jump out and then detonate. It's the little things that make it enjoyable I started out with the smaller maps/no vehicles just for the gun-on-gun to get used to the game, and after playing for a number of hours I started to regret buying the game. Then I discovered the pistols-only lobbies and just had so much fun. I'd guess it's because of the play style everyone's forced to play that makes it fun. Unfortunately, there will be some people using the G18 or the 93R, but for the most part it's looked down upon. What's good about State of Decay? I just watched a short video of it during the one of the Steam sales and it showed your character destroying massive mobs of zombies. I was short on cash at the time but found it interesting then kind of forgot about it until you brought it up. Could you explain a bit more about it?

I'm addicted to Battlefield 4 pistol-only lobbies.

Yeah just read about that. That's what I get for believing in ESPN's lazy reporting that Lazor was going to be the Lions OC. Colts QB Coach Clyde Christensen is also a name thrown out. Is your comment about Cully meant in a good way or a bad way? I don't know about either candidates to be honest but I think I'd side with Cully since he's under the Holmgren tree line if that still counts for anything. One thing I'm not liking is Caldwell is bringing in Ron Prince to supposedly replace Jeremiah Washburn. That's one guy I don't want to see go from the previous staff since I felt the OL was their biggest strength for once.
-
I disagree that race was a player in this. I think Caldwell was the next best choice as he filled the requirements that Mayhew/Lewand wanted as the next coach. Whisenhunt was the guy they really wanted all this time. They went ahead with the interview process with a few coaches which included Caldwell, patiently waited through the playoffs until the Chargers were eliminated and the Ford's had their private plane ready to leave for San Diego... then suddenly Whis decided to coach for Tennessee :/ I'm honestly not real excited over this hiring, but I'll point out the good and the bad. To start with the bad, which everyone I've seen thus far has been falling back on, is his college record and his last season in Indianapolis. A lowly 26-63 at Wake Forest. But I don't care much about that, it was back in the 90's and for the last decade and a half he's been coaching in the NFL. His last season with the Colts which was the season Manning was out for, they went 2-14. I must also point out that this year as the Raven's OC they had the 29th ranked offense. Now for the good which people should look at. He's regarded as an offensive mind. He spent most of the 2000s under Tony Dungy as a QB coach/OC and he's widely respected by players. He has 2 Superbowl rings as an OC, 1 with the Colts in '06 and 1 with the Ravens last year where he was credited as helping Flacco have that great year that eventually got him that massive contract. He also took the Colts to the Superbowl in his first season as their HC (and without Marvin Harrison) in '09 but lost to the Saints. He also has a lot of playoff experience. It should also be noted that as his teams have always been tops in the league in least amount of penalties, so we should see more consistency that wasn't there when Schwartz was coach. One thing I want to point out about that awful 2011 season: I don't put as much fault on Caldwell as I do on management for the way they built that team. It's known that the starting QB gets most of the reps during practice, and when you have a QB like Peyton Manning, he got nearly all of the reps if not all of them IIRC. So when Manning was out of the season and you throw in your backups like Painter and *cough* Orlovsky (anyone remember him???) on top of an average-for-years defense, the results won't be good. Couple that with a drunk owner that wanted to clean house, it'll result in an early departure. So I just wanted to say I don't think people should be mad about the hiring when there wasn't really any strong candidates. I personally wanted Whisenhunt, but I'm not upset about this hiring, just not really excited. I am kind of excited that Caldwell's bringing in Bill Lazor, Eagles OC, to be the Lions OC, which I think he'll be more effective than Linehan (OK, wayyyyyy more effective), considering what he did with Foles. He's also firing Cunningham and bringing in someone else I don't know, Teryl Austin. I guess he's had lots of experience, mainly with the secondary which people have desperately wanted improved, so we'll see how that goes.

I didn't expect Howard to start off this rough. He's gotta be better than 8-10-8. He's still a little shaky here and there but he's been better lately. In a surprising twist, Gustavsson has been huge for them.

Cleary should be suspended for elbow to head

Guess I'm not surprised, it's a similar play to Cowen on Datsyuk. -

dropkickshanahans replied to LAWings's topic in General
I still believe it was unintentional, but he has to have more control than that. Flinging your elbow out isn't a very smart reaction. I think he gets a game or two. -
Elbow looked unintentional to me, just wondering if he'll get a pass like Cowen did or not.
-
I'm hoping to see him play a game or two this season just to see how he does in the winged wheel. I just think he'd be a fun payer to watch, especially playing on a line with Tootoo.
-
At this rate I wouldn't be surprised to see Backman called up before Sproul after he makes the switch to the AHL as well. I'm looking forward to see Marchenko play though, he should have a solid game.

I'm not smart enough to evaluate and determine who's the better player but I will say that I feel Z has carried the load a little more throughout their careers than Pav has (off the top of my head I can only think of one playoff series against the Sharks that Pav stood out more). I also feel that despite the hardware Pav has, the opposing team seems to get more pissed off going up against Z. Perhaps Pav stands out more to most fans and TV personalities because of his flashiness and his elite takeaway ability, but you can't ignore the fact that Babcock most of the time seems to go to Z's line (when they're split up) to shut down the other teams top line, and also can't ignore that people like Gretzky and Crosby have claimed that they would pick Z #1 to build a hockey team around.

I've noticed Datsyuk taking more slappers this season for some reason. Nice that he finally got one off the one-timer.
