i would be more then lost without my crease. taking a crease away would almost be like taking the goalies stick away. as you move as a goalie your crease is kind of like your map where you always have a sense as to where you are relative to the net, by where your crease is under you. you would have to take it out in youth hockey and wait to enforce it in the nhl once all the old timers who were accustomed to the crease are gone. to just take howards crease away tomorrow would throw his entire game off, i promise.

since we are in the offseason :-( make a roster for next seasons squad. classify it as realistic, semi-realistic, or fantasy. please dont flame anyone.... this is just for ghits and shiggles realistic (but optimistic) CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Zach Parise ($6.700m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.200m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Darren Helm ($1.800m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($7.000m) Ian White ($2.875m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) Barret Jackman ($3.500m) / Kyle Quincey ($2.400m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Josh Harding ($0.800m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,258,712; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $41,288 lines could be tweaked i didn't set them (i would have put helm above abby etc.) even with the cap staying put this roster can work. how it all happened. 1A. re-sign helm and abby 1B. lidstrom and holmstrom retire after great careers 2. wings nab suter for 7.0 mil. this contract is probably a little inflated but in this market and with the demand he will bring about it seems pretty fair. could always have the contract have different cap hits per year... but i think 7 mill for year 1 is somewhat fair for both sides given the circumstances. 3. parise follows suit for 6.7. he too may not be worth a contract on par with pavels... but in reality he could fetch a lot more on the open market. tells him "your worth pavel like money" and also "we dont pay any forward more then we pay pav". from his perspective... he should be somewhat flattered seeing as though the wings dont throw money like that around to just anybody and that his cap hit is the same amount as one of the biggest forces in the game. i like it for both sides once again, given the circumstances. 4. let hudler, stuart, kindl all walk. (kindl waived) 5. sign jackman at 3.5 if hes willing (may be able to sugarcoat it a little bit with a cap increase)... replaces stuart, makes our team tougher, solidifies the backend. 6. re-sign quincey to 1 year, 2.4 contract. take or leave it. feel like we will re-sign him since he did cost us a 1st rounder. i understand this is a decent amount less then he made prior... but at this point he needs to prove his worth if he wants to stay here. i must say i think he is a better player then he showed in the red and white last year. 7. sign harding to a 1-2 year deal around a mill note. i had to waive eaves to make this happen... main reason was his contract secondly his injury history. if healthy and with a cap increase he could replace emmerton on the 4th.

highly doubt nick takes a hometown discount... nicks idea of a discount will be 6.0 per season flat from his 6.2. nothing against the guy, just saying he hasn't given us any reason in the past to believe he is willing to sacrifice out of his own pocket for the better of the team (yzerman did this i recall). you'd think after making 6+ per season your whole career for the same team making 2-3 your last year wouldn't hurt your bank account too bad but hey, you never know.

sorry didnt see the old post... regardless i like your roster!

and an unrealistic one!! all i really did was the same as above... just traded ericcson and cleary as well for "picks" CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Zach Parise ($6.700m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.200m) / Darren Helm ($1.800m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Zenon Konopka ($1.000m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($7.000m) Ian White ($2.875m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) Mark Fistric ($1.000m) / Barret Jackman ($3.750m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Scott Clemmensen ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,425,379; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $4,874,621 could make this roster with almost 5 million left over. say the cap does go up to 70 (from 64).... leaves us about 10-11 million left over. could literally have signed semin too just like the way this roster flows better then if he were in the top 6 (which bumps filppula franzen or nyquil out) but in reality... you think kenny could make something happen at the deadline with 10-11 mill cap space?

maybe if your as big of a fan as you claim to be then you should have faith in the organization and management that has given its city and you 4 cups since the mid 90's... a higher total then any other franchise. to admit defeat after a flukey game 1 loss makes you sound like a whiner (especially given the success of the team in your life as a fan). so do what you want bud, chant sign parise/suter/weber.... real classy. maybe the rest of the league is right when they call our team/fans a bunch of whiners... your sure not helping our cause. * and ask a toronto fan if they would mind waiting every 4 years for a cup and see what their response is. i like the nickname
-
your such a clown... for some reason when people cant spell names of players they're discussing it already makes me question there judgement. quincey not quency, parise not PARAISE, WEBER NOT WEBBER.... HEY YOU SPELLED SUTER RIGHT! why not just become a f***in preds fan if your going to slobber all over weber and suters knees. or even better yet... cheer for the blackhawks, you'd fit right in on that bandwagon where they only are fans when they're winning (sounds like you).

i heard that the wings are thinking of firing babcock before playoffs and have already begun searching LGW blogs in hopes to find their replacement

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have announced that Amway will be the team's presenting sponsor, the first time the franchise will have a corporate partner in this category. It's a multi-year agreement that builds upon last year's initial partnership which featured the Amway logo being incorporated on all Red Wings practice jerseys and pucks. "We're elated to have Amway as the first presenting sponsor in Red Wings history,'' Tom Wilson, president of Olympia Entertainment, said in press release. "The unique similarities between our two companies make this a natural alliance that will enhance all areas of our operations, including player nutrition, fan experience and our dedication to the community.'' The agreement will include substantial branding initiatives at Joe Louis Arena. Amway's Nutrilite brand was named the official vitamin and nutritional supplement of the Red Wings. "The 50-year history and global success of Amway along with the elite status of the Red Wings organization are a considerable source of pride for Michiganders,'' Steve Lieberman, vice president and managing director for Amway North America, said in a statement. "The partnership between our two Michigan powerhouses is a natural fit and a winning match.'' http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/09/red_wings_sign_multi-year_deal.html

http://www.freep.com/article/20110901/SPORTS05/110901005/Ex-goalie-s-personal-story-why-Pavel-Datsyuk-has-best-hands-NHL Pavel Datsyuk has the best hands in the NHL. Now this may not be breaking news for Red Wings fans, but it's an interesting perspective from one of his victims. Jamie McLennan, who played goaltender for six teams over 11 seasons in the NHL, recently penned a column for the Hockey News on this topic. He had a first-hand account as to why he said Datsyuk is the league's best stick-handler. He recalled a time when he was in net against the Red Wings. "Pavel Datsyuk was coming down the ice on his off wing and I was outside my crease in what I thought was a good position. I had read the rush and examined what his options were coming over the blueline: he basically had a 2-on-2 play with Henrik Zetterberg (also a scary player to face), but from what I could see, both my D-men were in good position to handle the play. Their gap was great, their stick positioning was perfect to take the pass away and it should have been a nothing play. Well, obviously Datsyuk had other ideas, because as he got over the blueline, he faked to drive wide, cut hard to the top of the circle, moved laterally as fast as he was going forward, put the puck through the D-man’s stick, faked a pass to a streaking Zetterberg and, in full stride, snapped a ridiculous shot short side shelf that I was way too late to get." McLennan later wrote that he watched the replay to see what he did wrong, and that's when he saw just how the term "Datsyukian" came to be. "Some things stick out in a goalie’s mind over his career and that goal will be ingrained in my mind for quite some time." After Datsyuk, McLennan has Joe Thornton, the Sedin twins (tied, naturally), Martin St. Louis and Corey Perry in his top five. Cant find the video of the goal... if any of you can get it post it!

Red Wings sign Ty Conklin to 1 year contract

completely OT.... love that picture of the production line... have the same one on my wall -
EXACTLY on your first paragraph.... crosby did actually have more blocked shots in his 41 games then pav or hank did last season for one... so he is blocking more shots in less games (zberg with 19 in 80, dats with 20 in 56, crosby with 23 in 41) has a 55.6 f/o % taking 40.1% of his teams faceoffs (dats with 54.6 @ almost 24%, zberg with 52.4% with 20.6% of his teams total faceoffs) zetterberg averages 37 seconds on the pk per game, datsyuk 39, crosby 28 seconds) zberg was -1 last year, dats +11, crosby +20 crosby giveaways 29, zberg 60, datsyuk 38 crosby takeaways 15, zberg 54, datsyuk 71 crosby has improved his D since entering the league... though datsyuks takeaways show he is about 2x as lethal without the puck as crosby is (last year in 41 games, dats in 56) -but other then that, crosby stacks up better in D cats then we would like to believe (though there arent many defensive stats, we have to work with what we have got)

ironic that the common consensus on LGRW.COM would be that datsyuk is better then ovechkin... seems like the homerism is overpowering the logic. ovechkin is 25 years old datsyuk is 32 career points for dats = 221 goals, 651 points in 662 games for ovie = 301 goals 614 points in 475 games in ovies 6 years in the league he has scored more then 50 goals 4 times, 1 of the 4 being a 65 goal season. in datsyuks 9 years with detroit, the most goals he has put up in a season was 32(08) which ties ovechkins lowest goal total since entering the league (2010). datsyuks 2nd most goals in a season is 31(07)... so if you add dats goal totals from 07 and 08 ovechkin still outscored him with just his 07 goal total. (32+31= 63, vs 65)some of you may say thats not fair, because dastyuk isn't a goal scorer... which is fine because we can also look at assists. datsyuks top season for assists was 66 in 07... ovechkin had 59 in 2010, just 7 less. dont see datsyuk doubling ovechkin in assists like ovechkin does datsyuk in goals most years. datsyuk has never had a 100 point season (97 twice) at age 32 whereas ovechkin has 4 at age 25 ovechkin is 5th all time for regular season goals per game above bure and gretzky, behind lemieux and bossy.... good company. 4th on all time list of playoff points per games (ahead of messier and orr) 2nd in playoff goals per game behind super mario 7th all time in regular season points per game could probably do this all day.... dont want to because pav is like my favorite player but its really not even that close on paper and thats just me being objective because i really dont like ovechkin all that much. as a red wing fan and a hockey fan its good to be objective about things becuase most people arent. (hence 95% of people on LGRW saying dats > ovie). i just dont think a poll of hfboards or nhl would show people unanimously agreeing that datsyuk is better then ovie.

callahan and/or dubinski will both probably be resigned.... but either would be nice to add as far fetched as it may be

http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=568277 http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=568016 odonnel, mayers, carcillo.... hell, even montador still have bickell, bolland, scott as returning grit very tough team being put together.... not going to be easy to play against. we may beat them.... but i would expect them to physically take it to us. thoughts?

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/07/red_wings_sign_defensemen_garn.html DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have signed a pair of defensemen, agreeing to one-year deals with unrestricted free-agent Garnet Exelby and their own restricted free agent, Logan Pyett. Both are slated to play for the Grand Rapids Griffins next season. Exelby, who turns 30 on Aug. 16, is a good-sized, scrappy defender (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) with 408 games of NHL experience with Atlanta and Toronto. He spent all of last season with the Rockford IceHogs (AHL), picking up three goals, 10 assists and 128 penalty minutes in 77 games. He played for the Maple Leafs in 2009-10, picking up a goal, three assists and 73 penalty minutes in 51 games. The 23-year-old Pyett (5-10, 200) has spent the past three seasons with Grand Rapids, where he's collected 21 goals, 45 assists and a minus-2 rating in 215 games.

yeah i do think they did get older, but that may be just what they were going for. hossa is the only returning blackhawk above 30.... (sharp is 29) odonnel (39) brunette (37) mayers (36) montador (31) carcillo(26) aside from mayers, brunette and hossa..... all of chicagos forwards are born in the 80's aside from odonnel and montador (and nick leddy... fricken 91 birthdate)..... all of chicagos dmen are born in the 80s "They traded away Brian Campbell, Troy Brouwer and Tomas Kopecky, but still have three restricted free agent deals to be resolved with Michael Frolik, Chris Campoli and Viktor Stalberg – all of whom Bowman expects to sign with roughly $7 million left under the League's $64.3 million salary cap." from OP article

i dont know if anyone has already mentioned this in the 45 previous pages!!!!! but..... NYR has some type 2 RFA's that I know i would like to see not get re-signed but its probably highly unlikely that they dont. Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinkski would be AWESOME in our top 6. HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but they are both still not signed after the signing of Brad Richards. Pretty sure NYR needs to sign about 4 players other then DUBI and Callahan. fingers crossed that they sign 1 of the 2 to a NYR contract (like gomez or drury) and are unable to retain both.... NO SHAME IN WISHING

with holland, i wouldnt be suprised if trenton native andy greene gets an offer (if the picking continues to get slimmer)

yeah i guess its more fantasy then reality thinking we could get pitkanen and wis.... especially because neither of them really specialize on the pk or in their own end. both are ideal for pp but with wis being the right handed shot it makes him that much more appealing. he hits, can fight and man a pp unit. pitkanen is very smooth with the puck, great coming out of his own zone.... has very impressive vision and is also very offensively gifted. my thing with pitkanen is his turnover to takeaway ratio is almost even whereas wisniewski gives the puck over a lot more then hes taking it away. we had ericcson and raffi this year leading the way in giveaways and it seems like signing wisniewski wont really help us in that department. signing one of them makes sense but both doesnt i understand.... just was merely number crunching showing it could be possible though not probable. i updated... made it more realistic.... we still "traded hudler + picks for bogosian + picks CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Jussi Jokinen ($3.500m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / James Wisniewski ($4.500m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Zach Bogosian ($3.375m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Mike Smith ($2.250m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,917,044; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $3,382,956 jokinen could demand more then 3.5.... we could give it to him. he could be good for 50-60 points as he has been the last 2 years, 20-30 goals. the only thing with this setup to worry about is whether kindl / smith can handle a regular spot smith probably wouldnt sign here to be howies backup, but if he did sign he would be capable of manning a solid chunk of games keeping howard well rested and well motivated knowing the guy behind him would love his spot. still have plenty of cap space for potential tweaking or to add depth / whatever you want to spend it on
