Bettman says next years cap likely similar to this years
Datsasuk replied to CenterIce's topic in General
I think the cap staying the same is a win for the NHL and its teams. The fear at the beginning of the season was the cap dropping like 3-4 million. Another year will give the economy more time to rebound...if it ever does -
The Flyers style of play is obviously the best way to win a Stanley Cup. Goonery at its best.

As much as I think Hossa is a ****** for jumping teams all the time, he is an amazing player. I think he's really fun to watch, because he pretty much does it all.
-
I really don't think Franzen is going anywhere. I've heard that we're interested in Halak, which makes sense. So maybe there will be some kind of package deal in order to get Halak. We'll probably have to give up atleast one decent roster player for Halak.
-
Very true. IMO and a lot of you may disagree with me, but a big part of the problem is the giant hole that was left when Hossa went to Chicago. He's a HUGE reason that Detroit had such a good season last year and returned to the finals. All of his production is gone, and who is stepping up to make up for it? No one. Trading Datsyuk would just make things worse.

Sid the Kid vs. Alexander The Great - Olympics 2010 Special
Datsasuk replied to Wings_Fan_In_Exile's topic in General
Ya know, this is cool and all, but here's what I don't get, and maybe because they play for the same Olympic team, but I think the rivalry between Ovechkin and Malkin is much more intense than Ovie and Crosby. IMO it's pretty hard to discuss Ovechkin and Crosby without mentioning Malkin. -
Yeah, I don't understand that either. An why Messier? He's a bone head.
-
I'm pretty sure Atlanta is going to retain Kovalchuk, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he walks and tests free agency. NO WAY the Wings sign him though.
-
But he'll still be overpaid. Higher cap also = higher salaries for other Free agents and possibly an increase in rookie max contracts and league minimums among other things.

IT was all a stunt. Vokoun had a ketchup packet hidden under his helmet. The NHL is the new WWE. Seriously though, this was ridiculous. If I were coaching in FLA, Ballard would be sitting for 3 games. I don't care how good he is or how much the team is struggling. That was an immature and undisciplined gesture that ended up hurting arguably the MVP of the team. Coach has gotta show he has control over the team and make Ballard feel sorry for his actions.
-
Convince the Dominator to come out of retirement and play him.
-
I agree. This is a great deal for Savard and a steal for the Bruins until later in the contract when Savard's production takes a dip and they are still paying him 4.2 million. I don't understand why teams are opting for these extensive contracts.

Apparently, they give the hats to charity like Goodwill or something. They don't just throw them away.
-
Word! How is this guy still in the league? Every year I say to myself, no one wants this guy. Then of course, we're the ones that sign him. WHY?
-
Apparently none of you will agree with me, but a goal judge would not solve all of the problems. Even when goal judges existed, there were still just as many questionable calls that were made/not made. We just didn't have the technology to look at every possible angle and zoom in and freeze, etc. that we have today. Neither did the refs. IMO the refs do a pretty good job at using video replay to investigate possible goals and probably 90% of the time make the right call. However, no human is perfect, and the rules allow for things like this to happen. I mean, look at the NFL. There are so many stupid and subjective rules pertaining to fumbles, catches, etc. that video replay actually allows the refs to make a better decision. Nonetheless, the call is ultimately based on someones interpretation of the rule vs what happened on the field/ice/court. A goal judge wouldn't be able to over rule a ref either.
-
No, I do not. I'd have to say Russia, Canada, and Sweden. The U.S. roster will not have enough fire power, depth, or experience. Who knows, they might surprise us, but right now I don't consider them to be a contender. Maybe next Olympics.
-
What size rink are they using during these Olympics?
Datsasuk replied to LidstromIsASuperhero's topic in General
Our turf, our rules? Not really. It would be so much more fun to see what these guys can do with the extra space of an international surface. Pretty disappointing. -
That is really disgusting. From that video, it looked like an all out brawl ensued. Here's my vote to ban Meat Heads as hockey fans for life.

So you people are saying you'd rather have ties than shootouts? Why? Ties are much more bullcrap than a shootout. I don't think anyone tells stories about how exciting the tie was the night before. The shootout is a quick way to handle ties during the regular season, as opposed to Sudden Death (which I know we'd all like) that would make games way to long throughout the season. If shootouts existed in the playoffs, they'd be retarded, but they don't. They don't decide the Stanley Cup, so why hate them?

Most of what I have to say has already been said but... I would choose Crosby over Malkin. Naturally, Crosby is a "set up guy." He prefers to pass the puck over shooting it. For this reason, he is constantly making the players around him better, and has done so playing with some pretty terrible people like Mark Recchi and Ryan Malone. Crosby is also a more responsible leader and pushes his teammates to work very hard on and off the ice. He leads by example. Malkin has an insane ability to take over games and play possessed when he wants to. But, his motivation for doing so seems to be random. When Malkin is playing his game, he's all over the place and pretty much doing it all himself. However, I don't think he really makes the players around him better, unless they happen to touch the puck before him. Also, his english sucks.

This sounds absolutely ridiculous. I can't see this happening for any reason, mostly because of Giguere's salary... And, Detroit doesn't have a goalie issue. I'm sure Giguere would love to go somewhere that he wouldn't be a clear cut #1 again.
-
If I were Garth Snow, I'd hang on to Biron for awhile. They have plenty of cap space, and Dipietro is bound to get hurt again. I heard talk in the off season that he was considering retirement if he can't get healthy. Although, I can't argue that he would be a good fit here. He's a solid guy in small doses.
-
That's great! He should can that generic Bear on his mask and get a scene from South Park painted on his mask with a huge image of Jimmy on the front. I bet the league would like one of their All-Star goalies sporting a cartoon retarded cripple on his mask.

I wonder if this guy will be getting a job in the NHL anytime soon. LOL! Seriously though, I had a coach with a nasty temper like that when I was a squirt. He was a truck driver for Wal-mart and owned a Harley. I think he coached us drunk a few times. Really nice guy if you were on his good side, but very scary when pissed. One time he almost got in a fist fight with another team's coach at a tournament we played in.
-
Biron would be a good addition and i dont believe he can ask for too much money considering hes not really a prime starter these days.
