There are a lot of players in the league that are usually cheap, and are tough, but can still play smart and put up points. I personally like Clarkson, but there are a lot. Players that can score, are effective defensively and will fight if necessary.

Nabokov claimed by NYI, refuses to report, suspended
Shady Ultima replied to Matt's topic in General
Except, that's not what he was saying. Let me use an example here. The season ends, and Brodeur retires. Looks like NJ's situation just got worse. They don't have another goalie to come in and take his load. So, they go and talk with Detroit's management. Detroit then signs KHL goalie for 2m. He goes on waivers, NJ claims him. They then trade Detroit David Clarkson (example, and a player I love) for Detroit's 5th round pick in 2015. Basically, it works out that Detroit gets David Clarkson for the pick and the goalie, who they went through the work of the contract with. -

Well, if they're going to try to force him to play a full season, he should just go, play the 30ish games and not even try. Make it PAINFULLY obvious to everyone that he does NOT want to be there. Eventually Snow and the rest of the management would get sick of him playing like s*** and waive him. -

I must be very confused then. By Canadian contract, what exactly are you talking about? -

No, because if someone would have been more likely to claim him if he was theirs for a whole season, not less than half. I'm honestly thinking, this was the whole point of this fiasco. I sense it was more Illitch's idea, because this rule is stupid. So we pick up a player, KNOWING he will get claimed. Now, like the Blues, after the season, Illitch and (who ever owns the Blues) will go to the owners meeting and demand that this rule gets changed. Actually, seeing as Wellwood is a Canadian player... you're completely wrong. If the player is playing in Canada, he's still within the boundaries of the NHL. There are Canadian teams right? I mean, if a player wasn't signed by any team in the offseason, and joins some other professional league in the states, and gets picked up halfway through the season, he's not going through waivers. It's only if the player was playing in Europe. As Wellwood, Svatos and Nabokov were. -

Cause they're getting him for 30ish games? I don't see the point of a bottom feeder claiming a playoff goalie, on a one year contract. It's not going to do anything for them. The can't trade him, so they can't get anything out of him. I mean, at this point in the season, it's a shame that a s***ty team would grab a good player like that. If they were a playoff contender, it'd still bother me, but not nearly as much. Hell, if it was a team that even had a CHANCE at the playoffs, and improving their goaltending would get them there, it would make sense. The Islanders have just proven again that they are morons and are a joke in this league. -

I wouldn't blame Jimmy for being upset, but I don't think this is because of him. I think, Ozzie is most likely done for the year. -

That really makes no sense. We get first dibs on Nabby if he's traded to anyone else, but if he's traded to us, he goes back to waivers? I'm pretty sure that a player can waive the no movement clause at any time, and he can be put on waivers IF he agrees to it. -

Pretty sure, if Nabby gets claimed, and that team tries to trade/waive him, we get first pick. So, even if NJ claims him, and then waive him, we're instantly #1 in the cue, before all the other crappy teams, like the islanders. At least, that's what I took from the most recent report. -

I was kinda expecting that we'd sign him to GR, then hold off on him until after the trade deadline, and bring him up... -
A Bunch of Team Jersey Changes (May Be) Coming Soon
Shady Ultima replied to zombi's topic in General
If the wings were any other team, we'd probably have a car, an octopus, the name DETROIT and the name RED WINGS down the front, and slight changes every year. Thank god we're not. As far as all those jerseys, I don't understand why people want to change every 3 years. Some teams have a classic look. The Original 6 should just stay with the same look, and for the most part, they do. I'm surprised that the Blackhawks didn't change their logo this year, as each feather was originally added to represent each cup they had won. -
Hey, when did Don Cherry become a jedi?

I believe this comic about sums it up.

I don't think anyone is taking them too serious. The super hero idea has a lot of potential, but so far most of the are just recycled, or just terrible.

Bolded exactly what I thought. It looks like a cross breed of Optimus Prime and Starstreaker (I think? The jet plane thinger)

Todd Bertuzzi - Emergency Goaltender

Nashville dressed one of their D men a few years back. I don't think he actually PLAYED in the game, but he did prepare to play as the back up goalie. -
THN: Zetterberg should be disciplined for skipping ASG
Shady Ultima replied to edicius's topic in General
The guy is kind of a moron eh? The All-Star game is a joke, and no one (not even the FANS) care about it. And to single out Z is not fair. There are other players who aren't playing who probably asked to not play. And no mention that the rule that you have to attend, but not play, because Crosby didn't want to play. -
Vokoun on a Cup-Contender (well, as of last year) is a scary thought. The guy is phenomenal. I'd HATE to see him get traded to a team we play in the playoffs, because we'd have a tough time with him.
-
Even though I can't really afford to help out right now, I think this is a great idea. And I think the name should be LGW, since it's coming from the fans, not the team.
-
They decided they didn't need an expensive goaltender, because we win without one, and Chicago/Philly went far last year with cheap goalies. They somehow didn't realize that Chicago (last year), Philly, and of course, Detroit, all have(had) phenomenal defense corps. They don't really have any one on their blue line to talk of.
-
Me too. The thought that the money might would be going to charity if we lose... it almost feels like the Wings should lose... but I don't want them too...

Red Wings asked NHL not to pick Zetterberg for all star game
Shady Ultima replied to Kingston's topic in General
This would be a great idea. More players would play, since there is no longer worry about injuries with playoffs upcoming, and it also gives players another reason to stay in shape over the off season. -
I sure hope he doesn't because then we still have his cap hit on the books, with him not playing.

Gretzky was, and is, a ******. Simple as that. So was Lemieux. They were like those pretty girls who KNOW they're pretty, so they think they can get away with everything. As far as this. Calgary is full of s***. I'd like to send them some eclairs filled with bulldog sperm (I'm sure someone can catch the reference) The hit was EXACTLY what the league wants to get rid of. This is the same guy who practically ended Van Ryn's career. I'm surprised he got 6. I expected 2, or nothing, honestly. The league hasn't cracked down enough on this s***, clearly. Repeat offenders should be out as long as the injured player, as well as paying medical bills, and giving a BIG chunk of their wage to the injured player. Stuart makes more money than Gutlesss*** (forgot who said that first, but I liked it) and if he had to pay for the amount of money Stuart lost, these dumb, league minimum meatheads might think.

Clarkson would be the perfect Wing. He's able to play offensively and defensively well, as well as being a tough guy. I'd love to see him here, a third line of Clarkson-Abs-Cleary would be sweet to see.
