The only player I'd like to see coming to Detroit would be Clarkson. The guy is exactly what I'd like to see on our third line. He's decent offensively as well as defensively, and he's gritty. Imagine a third line of Clarkson - Abs - Cleary

If I'm not mistaken this is a RARE occurrence here, where we won all three games in Western Canada. Someone who knows the stats better should look it up. I seem to remember hearing we'd only done in a handful of times since Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver started in the league.

Wow, that's a LOT of blood... How was there not a minimum 4 minute penalty? That's usually consistent. Draw blood, 4 mins.

Wait, was this Tatar's first NHL game?

I think, in the past 20 years, you have Roy Belfour Brodeur Hasek Osgood Joseph As probably the best. I may be missing some, but those are the goalies I can think of off the top of my head. Roy, and Hasek are in, Belfour and Brodeur are locks, and Osgood and Joseph are questionable. To try to compare the goalies is hard, because of the teams they played on. Roy was incredible on any team, definitely one of the best goalie of all time. Hasek is the same, despite only having won one cup as a starter. He made Buffalo a threat, when they really didn't have much else going for them. Belfour and Brodeur have both proven that without a SOLID defensive team... they are crap. Belfour won one cup, with a very, very good Dallas team, whereas Brodeur has been absolutely terrible and getting worse since the salary cap came in and NJ's defense disappeared. Joseph is probably the most under-rated on that list. Most people consider an elite goalie to win cups. But Joseph played on some of the worst teams in his career, and was amazing. I'm not a Toronto fan, but he was the only thing going for them in their 2002 run, and he was the best player in his Edmonton and St. Louis days. He'll probably end up being looked over, but Joseph was one of the best there was. Osgood is an odd one, possibly ranked lower than Joseph on many people's lists. Despite putting up some great stats over his career, winning 2 cups as a starter, and carrying us in the 08 and 09 playoffs, people never give him the respect he deserves. To be part of the 6 best goalies in 20 years earns HOF in my opinion. Like Joseph, he played for some pretty bad teams, the Isles and the Blues, and he managed to play well. People put him up to his team, but even Lalime could have won a cup as a starter on the 2000 and 2003 NJ teams. They allowed so few shots against that the goalie barely had to even play. They could almost have had an empty net and won. Brodeur has never been amazing without a team in front of him, and still gets called an elite, while Osgood quietly plays as good (or better) in playoffs and never gets the recognition. Just curious, which 5 are you talking, and which two are inducted? I know Roy has been, and I believe Hasek is eligible.

I'd argue that Buff has a better chance at Hart than Norris. The guy has helped that team out a LOT. Lids has a great shot for Norris because of the fact that he's having a phenomenal year. A +1 so far really means NOTHING. He's been better offensively than ever, yet he's still amazing defensively. We are being scored on a LOT more this year than usual though, which could be effecting his +/-. But the people that vote pay enough attention that they're going to vote for players who play well. Although Green is an anomaly, he's horrible in his own end.

The GWG is a simple stat that shows which goal scored won the game. Zetterberg scored, but Burns goal in the 3rd negated that goal. Thus, 1 - 1 Cleary's goal, which was #2 for the Wings kept it so that the Wings won. The other goals after are just extras. If the other two had not scored, Cleary would still have the GWG as he scored the goal that made the difference in the game. If the Wild scored again, Draper would have had the GWG. The GWG can be scored in the first minute of the game, or the very last. It's only apparent after the game is over.

I hope that now that the milestone is out of the way he can play better consistently. I'm sure this win had been weighing on his mind someone, a bit of a distraction when he's playing.

I don't really see us trading for a rental player. If we were planning on keeping him past this season, then I'd be down for it, but it sounds like Langenbrunner is happy with the Devils.

Ok, so no more injuries now? Good. Can't have our whole team going down. Mind you, anyone remember the February of 2008? We had the majority of the team gone. But that season turned out alright.

Well, we're only 3-4 months into the season, so depending when she got pregnant...

As far as Z vs Dats, Dats is better in the regular season, but Z is consistently our best player come playoffs. Fil is interesting, as I could go either way. If the right deal was given, I would, but otherwise, I think he does well for what we ask of him. Not sure if this would work, or is even realistic, but what if we could trade Fil and Huds to Chicago for Hossa?

You mean the draft pick that is forfeited because of the Kovalchuk contract? I believe that they don't get a first round for this year OR next year.

Red Wings air their grievances in honor of Festivus

I thought the Dumb and Dumber comment was common knowledge? -
How do you think the Wings will do without Dats?
Shady Ultima replied to #19=Legend's topic in General
I think we'll be fine. Franzen, Fil and Bert will come back around. And as far as Z goes, he has a lot of points, but most are assists on Datsyuk's goals. He needs to be the one scoring now. -
YA Z!!!!!!

No matter who wins, this has been a great game

I don't really want to sign any of these 'SUPERSTARS'. Leino was bad enough as a Red Wing. And anyone else remember Brunstrom (sp?) Yea, no thanks.

Is there anyway out of this for the Devils? They've got his cap sitting on the books for a VERY long time, and he doesn't look to be worth a dime of what they're paying him. They can't trade him, no one else is dumb enough to take his contract, they can't buy him out, and I doubt they could even waive him. Is it possible that they could ship him off to KHL when the season ends? I've never understood the legalities of how the Huet thing worked for the Hawks. Could the Devils do that with Kovy?

While the decision to retire a number is up to the owner of the team, but Kenny loves Ozzy, and I think he has a good chance to having his number retired. I do believe that Ozzy deserves more recognition than he ever has, or will get. The fact is, people are always going to say he's only good because of Detroit's defense. It's ironic in that sense because they NEVER point out Brodeur's defense, and he hasn't won a single championship without that defense either. I believe Roy had a damn good defense core in front of him for the majority of his career. The ONLY 'elite' goalies who have rarely had a superior defense were Hasek, and arguably Cujo (if you consider him elite)

To the people who hate Bert... his hit was the exact same as when McCarty punched Lemieux. Blind side, punch to the back of the head, and then Lemieux fell. The only difference is that Lemieux's neck didn't break because the whole Avs team didn't jump on McCarty.

Lots of goalies should have been good in the long run. As far as BOTH Jimmy and Price are concerned, they could both turn into the next Raycroft. A goalie who's good young doesn't always stay that way, and a goalie who has a terrible career can win a Vezina (Tim Thomas was a BACKUP for his whole career)

Hat Trick - Curly Fries or Jr. Roast Beef?
Shady Ultima replied to Setemupknockem's topic in General
Actually, it began as the Roast Beef, Curly Fries was only last year and (Maybe?) The year before. Curly fries are better though, because they're more accessible to everyone. -
Is one of their players wearing a Red Wings shirt? WTF?
-
Why the hell is he doing that? It looks like he's going to sneeze, but then doesn't.
