Minor Bright Spot in Light of a Lockout Fan Contest
Marty Barry replied to vladdy16's topic in General

Well if the season does start, here's our trade deadline deal. Helm returning. An easy out for Kenny.

You make your own caption, I'm too disgusted right now.

About a month after we came home from Somalia our unit got on busses and went south of Fort Drum to a dinner held for us at a little VFW. After that we boarded our busses and went to a game at West Point. There was a scrum and apparently the cadets aren't allowed to fight and the cadet was out for the rest of the game but the other guy played again. I guess it's the whole "officer and gentleman" thing, I don't know. I thought it was quirky, although I don't know anything about the college game or it's rules. The other team was Cannisius or however they spell it.

Where is the fan outrage at owners not wanting to honor already signed contracts? When a player does this in any league he becomes the devil incarnate. I despise the tactic used by the owners during the days leading up to the expiration of the prior CBA. They outragously outbid eachother to overpay the few top end FA's fully knowing their future intentions of reniging with new CBA negotiations. That's dirty. I side on the side of the players because of this. I'm not a basketball fan at all but maybe this is the season that draws my interest. Sad. Can somebody please tell me why everything above is underlined? What button did I push to make it stop?

That should secure a lock for 1st ballot HHOF, right? Maybe if he has one more lockout he could get his own wing. At least his name on a trophy.

Each side votes on the other side's best and worst proposition then lock them up in a room with the 4 propostitions. Every 4 hours send a runner out to announce deal or no deal. Pretty soon, after fatigue wears in, BOOM, we have a new pope. I'm already tired of this sh*t.

The offer on the table....whats the prediction?

What sucks is being a fan of a league that can boast the most intelligent players in pro sports. This can make for longer lockout periods. And also having Buttman as the mouthpiece of the owners. How do I get my keyboard to stop underlining everything? -
Team souvinirs, the tv you watch the game on, and the remote used to mute Don Cherry are all made in China.
-
I don't know. When ESPN lost the NHL they filled the time slots with lumberjack games and poker. Both enjoyed huge boosts in their fanbases. Especially poker.

Just another "soft euro". A Canadian player would have done it himself with a drill. Just ask Don Cherry. It's cool, I have that very same litho of the Russian Five, it's autographed by all 5 guys along the bottom. Never knew this even happened and doubt it would in another sport. I would like to send this book to Cherry and highlight this portion.

Looking for a good documentary/book on hockey history
Marty Barry replied to kylee's topic in General
I like the movie "Net Worth". It is the story of how Ted Lindsay and co. started the first players union. How he tried to get the biggest name in the game, Gordie, to help out and his resistance to it. Plus you get a movie about the Wings. Sorry, I guess this isnt really a documentary. Still, a decent view for a Wingnut. -
Recently, Yahoo Sports released it's Top 100 NHL players for it's fantasy league this year. Can anybody explain to me the Datsyuk rating? I really don't understand. How does this stuff work? http://sports.yahoo....03307--nhl.html

I think that maybe in 2 years the Pens will still be about 1 year from a Cup. They may get close but I think the Wings will have something to say about that. Yeah, give them 3 years. Also, I just don't see Crosby as a full career type of guy. Maybe he will go the Lindros way with concussions or something, I don't know, just don't see him playing for 20. As far as Crosby having another hotshot winger on his other side, who knows? But a 1,2,3 punch seems unlikely unless the Stahl family produces again (yeah, right).

Done, I mean Doan.

IF there is a lockout, where will our players likely end up?

Love to see our guys go to the Euros to play with our prospects. But, only if they can return to the NHL if the season resumes. -
Iggy. Always my fav.

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Marty Barry replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
I think that maybe the impending cba has something to do with this offseason. A possible lower cap and maybe a last chance for players to receive these bloated, front loaded contracts and detroits unwillingness to offer them may be a factor. I still have faith in Kenny and co. and think we are better for not signing Parise and Suter. It just kills flexibility in the future. -
Jackets also got Bobrovski in goal. Mr. mayor, start planning the parade route.

Didn't really see this coming at all. Hope Kenny can get some D quick so that we won't be bent over a barrel. What great timing. Thanks Q.

signed Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild
Marty Barry replied to Liquidsnake's topic in General
Nash/Ryan no matter how much I would love to have them = overpayment. I say Semin, maybe Doan and hope that our young D guys perform as hoped. Next season the FA market should be better and we can hopefully make a big splash then. It just feels to me like everybody left this year will handicap us financially for the next 5 years. Not bad form actually. Of course he's had a few years to perfect it. -
Zach Parise agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild
