so jacked up to watch this!!! -
NOT True. OEL is their undisputed No.1 dman. Also, I think the wings will wait and see what they have in brunner before they make any trades of forwards for dmen.
-
Bogosian would be a nice piece as he is a RH dman with great size, mobility, and youth. I think more realistically we should target a guy like gormley who is probably nhl ready but is on a team with a crowded blueline. I don't think we have the depth to trade for a current top tier dman, but we could try for a potential top tier guy in gormley. maybe even rundblad but people seem to dislike him.
-
Looking to next year's free agents list, who would you make a play for? Here are my top 5: - Corey Perry OR Ryan Getzlaf - Travis Zajac - Alex Edler - Mark Fistric If we could pick up one of Perry/Getzlaf/Zajac it would make Franzen and Filppula expendable and they could be traded for a top dman.
-
Let me know if I'm wrong but the amnesty buyouts don't count against the cap. We get two. I'm sure someone would take Franzen on in a weaker team. Buyout Bert, Sammy. Eaves goes on IR. Emmerton and Colo could be traded with their low cap hits. This would easily fit under the cap and you could sign another forward or keep emmerton.

READ THE POST. I SAID I COULDNT CHANGE THE SALARIES
-
Okay. So without being able to input different salaries for players getting raises next year due to capgeek only doing the current year, here is what I came up with. The key is to trim the fat (older players making more than they are worth. We need some rookie contracts and some star contracts mixed in. Apply raises for guys using the 9mill left over: CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Corey Perry ($5.325m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Calle Jarnkrok ($0.900m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Damien Brunner ($1.350m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Alexander Edler ($3.250m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $55,694,167; BONUSES: $957,500 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $9,263,333 Subtractions: Cleary, Bert, Eaves (IR), Sammy, Franzen, Emmerton, Coliacovo. All either through trade, contract expiration, or amnesty buyout.

Are you high?! Smith and Fil for a dman that can't play top 10 D? I'd want a better dman than yandle for that package. Then you deal essentially 2 firsts and bert for one year of selanne? thats ridiculous. I agree we need a dman. But trading our best d prospect isn't the answer to fixing our d long term. If we could get another top 4 dman and let almquist, ouellet, sproul develop we will be in a good position 3-4 years from now. We will be bringing in guys like Tatar, Jarnkrok, and Pulkkinen in the next season or two. Consider moving some aging forwards out of the lineup in trades etc. - likely for more picks to refill the cupboard after. The way to win a cup is to have some stars in their prime and a bunch of talented youngsters on rookie contracts to squeeze under the cap. THAT is how its done in today's NHL.

Zetterberg named Captain, 36th Captain in Red Wings History

Congrats Z! I'd like to see Helm get the A next. The letters shouldn't go to just skill players. Also, I see helmer as the kind of guy that would raise his play with that kind of responsibility. -
Filppula - Datsyuk - Franzen Nyquist - Z - Brunner Clearly - Helm - Sammy Tootoo - Abdelkader - Bertuzzi Scratches: Miller, Eaves Mursak Kronwall - White Smith - Ericsson Quincey - Colo/Kindl Howard Gus

NHL submits offer to NHLPA - **Suspension Warning Post #70 & #273*

I think we would have been okay. We would not have Coliacovo and would not have signed Sammy. Then if you take eaves out of the equation you get pretty close to where we need to be. Also Tootoo's contract is a little too much and could have been the one that would be removed with the new buyout. Keep emmerton and bring tatar up to fill up the roster. -

I'd buyout sammy's or bert's contract. Tatar has made his case to be in the big leagues and the most successful teams balance rookie and senior contracts to make the cap. Good on Holland for not spending to the cap this offseason. When cleary leaves at the end of the season, that, plus the removal of coliacovo or white will leave us room to sign a top dman in the offseason. CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($1.350m) Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Carlo Colaiacovo ($2.500m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $57,548,712; BONUSES: $672,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $13,323,788 -

I like this offer. The league budged a little. Now its time for the players to do the same here. If there is a counter offer it better have only a few small concession requests. Ask maybe for 8 year re-sign contract limit rather than 7 and 11% variance. Just try to squeeze a little more out of the same proposal. If the players try to counter with something different the season will be lost. The way negotiations have gone, each time there are counter offers the nhl has disappeared for a couple weeks. -
well done. i hadn't seen a few of those before this. good to know.

dumba didnt even make it... hahaha wild prospect...
-
who else would you bench really? aside from the lack of a third line center, I like the look of those lines. Tatar is a more impressive option than emmerton at this point.
-
Just spitballing.... If Jarnkrok and Pulkkinen come over next year we have a great year of development in GR ahead. Almost no veterans. 2013-2014 Griffins: Tatar – Jarnkrok – Pulkkinen Tvrdon - Sheahan – Jurco Parkes - Ferraro - Pare Hoggan - Andersson – Callahan Aubry, Raedeke Ouellet – Sproul Almquist – Nicastro Lashoff – Billins Paetsch, Evans Mrazek, McCollum
-
Tatar and Nyquist are almost PPG in GR. I would love to see them transition them in and sammy and bert out in a year... smith will be up this year and we will need to transition ouellet and sproul to the ahl next season. Almquist has been a nice surprise so far so having those three in gr with smith up is nice to have for the future. PS. Ferraro tearing it up in GR... just saying.

I LOL'd longer than I should have.

So just to clarify, Israel and Hamas can agree on a ceasefire, but the NHL and NHLPA can't figure out how to share $3 billion?
