Ya i'd rather sign a vet 7th this year and if we don't do as well in the standings we can draft some more quality prospects in the early rounds. Next year we can explore free agency and use our even deeper prospect pool as trade bait. People forget that Kindl has at least bottom pair potential at least. We need the current prospects we have developed as we are getting on the old side in our core.

Those guys coming up gives us some tradeable assets. For instance, Sheahan pretty much makes Abby expendable. Hopefully around the time Pulks is ready Franzen will still have some value. This is the way to succeed in the new nhl, trade assets before they lose all their value.

The other thing of note is that we don't exactly NEED JBow. There are other defensemen that fit better. AKA right handed defensemen that their team doesn't necessarily need to trade either. We aren't going to do Calgary a favour and drop flip as overpayment just because they need a center. If we don't make good trading partners and neither team wants to budge then lets move on and let Philly overpay. Jbow isn't a sure thing so no use giving fil up. pretty sure Philly doesn't have any tradeable centers available for JBo either. They wouldn't move Couts Schenn or Giroux for Weber so they won't for JBo and you can bet Briere stays with his NTC and his family situation. They will offer Voracek and a pick likely.

I'd totally be down for this trade as long as Franzen, Fil, Nyquist and our top prospects stay put. If its like 2 bottom sixers and a pick i will be happy. I will say that all the CGY fans on hfboards think they will get Fil+ lol.

Have you checked out his offensive numbers? the guy is an absolute stud in the offensive zone! maybe he projects to be better defensively than yandle but the point production is totally there.

Id rather have a bunch of 20 goal scorers than one 40 goal guy. Its hard to shut down consistent team scoring - one 40 goal guy can be shut down. This is especially true in the playoffs where those guys take a punishment. I don't think our depth was good enough to compete against the preds this playoffs but I think we improved our scoring depth this offseason and we have a lot of guys that have 15-25 goal potential, so even if one goes cold we are still okay.

At this point I wouldn't be against signing a vet 7th and letting Kindl develop. He has shown some flashes but has also seemed afraid to make mistakes at times. If he has the time to develop this year I think he could surprise a lot of people. He is more than a 7th dman.

in a couple years bert and sammy will be off the books in addition to cleary likely being gone. At that time I expect to see some prospects make the jump. lets hope jurco is ready by then.

This is one trade that we should most definitely not be overpaying on. JBo is solid but not elite and not worth overpayment. Id be happy to have him if it doesnt hurt the team bu acquiring him. Our top assets should only be used to acquire elite players as we dont exactly have a plethora of tradeable assets right now.

If Kane signed that offersheet then WPG would match for sure. 6.7mill with their franchise player locked up long term. The kid is great. It'll be overpayment for a few years but will be worth it considering the compensation is some lateish round 1,2,3 round picks. I think we would have to go up into the next compensation bracket and then try to work a trade with WPG including players rather than doing the full 4 picks. Just my two cents.

I hope brunner and nyquist play like beasts and it forces kennys hand to make a move due to excess fwds.

This one Holland should have been in on. 1 year is ZERO risk. 7mill we have easily. This was a complete failure to make our hockey team better with little risk. I'm tired of all the holland defenders who are saying we shouldn't overpay for him. IT WAS A ONE YEAR DEAL. We aren't close to the cap ceiling. Realistically this should have been done. "Holland was unwilling to compromise, which is his biggest strength, and this off-season, his biggest weakness." This sums this offseason up for me. Holland can pass on certain bad deals like long term overpaying for Carle, Wideman but a one year deal for Semin would have made so much sense regardless of character issues you think he may have.
