We can still win it all THIS season, but...

We wont get doan for 6 mill one year if he already was offered a longer term at 7.5. Furthermore, i like semin 1 year but will cost more than 6 likely due to less term. Its not useful to show fwd lines when u assume some players will be traded for a dman. Sammy is not a 4th liner. Bottom line is who knows what holland will do. There is no right way to "fix" the team. And no moves guarantee a cup.

Should Pav and Z play on the same line for the majority of this season

Z was a 40 goal scorer playing wing. Fil is good on wing but doesn't have the same sniping/scoring ability that Z has. With Fil really coming into his own and seeing him protect the puck the way he does, I fully support moving Z to Dats' wing. Also consider that with Z and Dats together they don't have to carry separate lines and can probably stay healthier due to less stress of having each other. We have the pieces already without a trade to make this work imo. I just think with dats wrist and Z's back putting them together makes sense. Fil will have to become a top 6 centre eventually when they retire so might as well make it happen now. Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Brunner Nyquist-Filppula-Franzen Cleary-Helm-Sammy Bertuzzi-Abdelkader-Tootoo Note that eaves, miller, emmerton, mursak are all out. This kinda sucks. The second line could be VERY good if Nyquist is what we all think he is. Flip Sammy and Brunner if Brunner doesn't produce. With Semin: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Semin Nyquist-Filppula-Franzen Cleary-Helm-Sammy Bertuzzi-Abdelkader-Tootoo Jesus we just have too many forwards. Honestly think we are looking to trade at some point. It just doesn't add up. Kenny won't sit one of Sammy/Bert/Cleary/Brunner and he def won't go into the season with both Eaves, Miller on the pine.

Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill

Probs not. Im not holding my breathe after the suter fiasco

    Semin

True but its not like we are giving assets to acquire him. If he bolts he bolts and we dont have to get rid of his contract or pay him if it doesnt work.

    Holland Content with Current Roster

I guess it would be Lashoff or even Almqvist. Good opportunity for young guys to get a few games taste of the nhl rather than have some vet getting sour sitting around waiting. I know i felt guilty having commie ride pine, I mean the guy was an nhler. if the kids are vying for a shot its always good.

    Smith Leads Charge

    when is quincey's arbitration?

    Homer

Imagine McKee and Callahan on the same roster. These guys would fuel each other and you'd more than likely have one or the other on the ice if s*** hits the fan.

    Panthers sign Mueller

wolski signs with caps for 600K. cheap semin replacement. STEAL.

Doug Janik signs with Adler Mannheim, DEL (germany)

We have lashoff to take up his reigns anyways. More room on the blueline for our young guys to develop. Would be so nice to get all of our prospects aged 19+ onto the Griffins and let them develop together and have chemistry.

    Holland Content with Current Roster

My concern is it just seems like holland wants us to slip into the playoffs and then win it somehow ala LA. but we don't have the quality underachieving players they do that can turn it on in the playoffs possibly. Holland wants this team to make the playoffs every year it possibly can rather than trying to make changes to have it win, but possibly weaken it for the short term. Seems like he's buying into the idea that any team can win in the playoffs.

    Panthers sign Mueller

that was def a steal. even lower than i expected. I thought at least 2.5mill. especially in florida. probably woulda taken less in detroit too.

Six teams on Nash's trade "list", none Canadian

Nash is already 28 years old. If this goes another year he will be 29. He's only 3 years younger than Zetterberg and everyone on hfboards considers Z to be "aging." Furthermore he is a star "winger," these are less valuable than star dmen or centres as they don't have as much 2 way play or bang for their buck especially if they have a cold streak scoring. If we give up major youth and a talented roster player we only get 3 more years of Nash than we will Z and power forwards usually slow down earlier than most positions. I just don't see how this is viable for the future considering we will give up a lot of young assets that won't be able to fill future holes in the lineup. I would consider Ryan to be a long term, better solution. I don't even know if the asking price is as crazy as Nash's but even if it is I would rather pay it for Ryan. The contract is better, he's only 25, has a RH shot and can play centre from time to time. This is a long term solution that would make it hurt less to lose some prospects as Ryan would potentially be around for another 10 years or so. Just my thoughts. Oh and lol at the leafs.

    Semin

even still, his UFA rights can be flipped for a late round pick before the draft if we didn't keep him. We can at least get that for a guy thats free.
  14. dirtydangles

    Semin

There is literally no risk at signing semin for a 1 year deal that is rumoured. We won't be using that cap space anyways, even if we do trades we will still send cap the other way. Then if it doesn't work he is off the books next year anyways. Even if holland didn't want him I'd get him to spite the pens anyways. Does Ilitch not want to use 5-6mill of his money one semin or something? lol.
  15. dirtydangles

Rumor/Report: Semin to sign 1yr deal with Pens

Holland is f*cking doped up if he didn't go for semin with a one year deal. what else was he going to use the cap space for? it would be there next offseason with a one year deal. lets hope this is all bulls***.

How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

THIS. I just wonder what it would take for everyone to lose faith in holland? Still so many people defend him tirelessly but I would be interested to know what it holland would have to do to lose your faith? Im really shaky right now, I'm hoping this is as bad as it gets and we will see an upturn but if it gets much worse I may have to go out and buy a pitchfork.

How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

The only thing that bothers me about this roster is that Kenny will HAVE to eventually make a trade or we will have no Tatar up next season likely and no other forward prospects will get looks either... This is because of the deals he gave Bert, Sammy, and will likely give to Cleary. I want to bring some of our top 6 talent up from the AHL and give them a true shot next season. If that means trading Franzen for d help, letting cleary walk, or trading bertuzzi then so be it.

    Hockey Prospectus

I think this is pretty comprehensive. I'd say most of our prospects have high end potential missing likely one element that they need to work on to make the nhl. Even though they were drafted later, they were bargains because they were passed over due to lack of weight or needed to work on skating but are very skilled in their own respects and can work on those things. Now we are seeing them put up big points and succeed at their respective levels of play because they work on their weaknesses.
  19. dirtydangles

    Semin

not sure why we wouldn't at least inquire... its obvious we aren't trading for anything at this point considering that he isn't going to add any forward depth.
  20. dirtydangles

    An outside the box idea.

Hfboards provided this: Michael Del Zotto might be a doable option. If we can agree to terms ahead of time with MDZ I think we could trade Franzen and Kindl or a pick for him if he signs long term with us. Would be a good young dman that fills a need and would for sure be a top 4 for many years. 6 foot 22 years old LH shot. Doesn't fit in as well as a RH dman. This is the second option: Franzen for McIlrath + 2nd. This kid is huge 6foot 5 and 212lbs. RH shot. 20 yrs old. Could be ready in a year or even this year. Ideas?

Wings hire Lidstrom as overseas amateur scout

LOL ZOMG I went on nhl.com and saw lids pic and "back in the fold" and thought he was back for a sec until reading the scouting stuff I already knew.

    The Next Move

We arent picking in the last 10 prolly for a few years. I think we will have around 15 this year with our current lineup. I think theyd rather get picks rhan lose for nothing like suter.

Evander Kane is a Better Option than Zach Parise

Trying to make a point while using the wrong their? Priceless.

    The Next Move

Jesus. Because then we have to give up 4 first rounders for one year of shea weber i they are smart enough to pull the carpet out from under us. They really should take those picks and run at this poit rather than letting weber walk for nothing.

Evander Kane is a Better Option than Zach Parise

Kane is intriguing. I think we could swing something but kenny never would. Look at his recent trade history. It just wont happen. We have the assets to make it happen though if he truly doesnt want to sign there for what they want. Teams are going to start considering our draft picks as valuable now that we are declining.
