Lets think COMPLETELY outside of the box for one minute...

Stevie doesn't owe us any favors. He's not gonna give ip stamkos unless he gets big return. Which we can't offer at this point. The best offer would win. -

ahahahaha agreed. i just posted to show how implausible it was. cups are won from the back end. i think an addition of one of gagne or richards (at a reasonable hit) with 2 top 4 dmen would put us in serious contention to win next season. -

lids was signed this year.... and ya, the cap went up, so what? so we start tossing around contracts 5mill more than before for 1 player? you have to consider that EVERYONE's stock rises in this case. you will have to resign lesser players at a higher price so you can't throw all that extra cap at one player without losing guys. EDIT: look at bieksas contract for example. -

I'd be down with something like this, UFA cap hits can vary due to extra left over: I want Richards, but here's something without. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Simon Gagne ($3.500m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.900m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) Drew Miller ($0.700m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($5.000m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / James Wisniewski ($4.500m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Doug Janik ($0.512m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Brian Boucher ($0.900m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,229,544; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,070,456

We could do 6-7mill IMO. Wonder if babs will be pissed of we dont get this gold medal winner... Lol
-
ya i could see some sort of ntc for the coming season. that would be more reasonable. not sure if thats possible? but it would be a nice guarantee for players and not cripple a team if things dont work out that year.
-
ya, i can't see the kings "kicking tires" for gagne if they can't dump smyth. they'll resign doughty. id LOVE if he fell to us. but not counting on it for a second.
-
i had some time to cool off today. i guess this is really a two sided coin. i honestly really liked burns, so did babs. but there are two ways to skin a cat, and holland is currently choosing the one i wasn't in favor of, but it'll have the same result (a better team). we just have so many pieces to add, and its hard to make a plan for getting them that works. i thought that burns would have been great because of his low cap hit for next season, allowing us the opportunity to sign richards and wiz. there were obvious downsides that holland didn't agree with (prospect cost, risk).
-
thats a former first for a third. deal.
-
why can't we get in on these deals? id take that.
-
i do see this as a bit of "cause and effect." we don't draft until late in the first or many late picks. the only way to make sure one of those guys is ready is to look at them over time. of course if we drafted top 5 we would have younger guys moving up sooner, but the fact of the matter is, holland doesn't want a "maybe" player in our top 12 and all we get lately is "maybe" players due to our draft positions.
-
how does wisniewski even replace rafalski? we are worse than last year ATM. and ya, id trade a prospect that might not make an impact in the nhl for a franchise dman. so ya, im pretty pissed. all our rivals are getting better and we are getting worse. why do you think babs would say he was pissed? cause he thought we coulda had him. we had a higher first round pick, then add a top six (fil or franzen) and a upper prospect. id do that. thats not blowing up our team. it certainly didn't blow up sj's team.
-
im ******* pissed too. i was pushing as hard as anyone to land this guy. shows that a trade was possible, and people (babs) felt like we should have picked him up. f*** holland. carter, richards, and now burns? god i don't see this offseason going well anymore.
-
just to followup i think this is kinda iffy if we do send huds, kindl, and many high picks to winnipeg. its still a huge stretch... its gonna take a lot more than hudler+picks to land bogosian. more like kindl, hudler, and one of our better prospects. i still think kenny will go after one of bogosian or burns, but its not gonna get done without including more than hudler+picks.
-
that wouldnt get you close to the cap. we have room for wiz, richards, another top 4 dman if we trade hudler.
-
i really hope this is true. as long as dats, z, and helm stay id be good with any trade that made our team better even if i liked the player.
