By looking at the UFA lists for this year and the next, its evident that there are a few guys that need to be looked at for sure. I think we should go after another top 6 forward this year as other than semin, there isn't much in next season's batch of ufas. Here is a list of high end guys (with some youth and potential) that have been discussed here and on hfboards to think about incorporating over the next 2 years rather than just looking one season ahead. Dmen: 2011: Pitkanen Ehrhoff Bieksa Wisniewski Brewer Markov 2012: Suter Burns Liles Coburn Carle Forwards: 2011: Richards Gagne Connolly Ryder Jokinen Laich 2012: Semin Sharp Boyes Realistically, from looking at this list, I'd love to make a trade for Burns this offseason and have his 3.5mil caphit this year and he shoots right which is what we need desperately. I'd give up Anyone other than Z, Dats, Helm, Kronner, Smith in a package for him. May want to try to offload a long salary like Franzen (god love him) who would be a much needed sniper for the wild. Then try and sign Suter the next offseason if Lids retires after next season. Doubt many of those UFAs for 2012 will be left when the time comes... I got my eye on Patrick Sharp......

u r looking too one dimensionally at this. In theory, if Holland were to trade say Filppula or Franzen in a package (with Kindl and picks) for a guy like say, Burns, you would be in essence switching cap from offense to defense, and then freeing up space to spend on a top six guy. You are saying that we would just be adding to offense without shaving anyone off, and leaving less money for securing the D. Holland said he would be open to a trade to replace rafalski, and it most likely won't be a dman for dman+picks+prospects swap. This leaves money to spend on more than just the D. I'm not saying we'll get burns, just using it as an example. Although I have seen some wild fans on HF boards saying they needed a pure scorer with size (Franzen) really badly (they were talking about setoguchi or heatley for burns).

Deal Filppula, Kindl, 24th pick, 5th round, 2nd 2012, performance based pick to Philly for Carter, Carle. Trade Hudler for cap space and a pick in return. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.900m) Drew Miller ($0.750m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) Kris Draper ($0.850m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / James Wisniewski ($4.500m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($5.800m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Christian Ehrhoff ($4.500m) / Matt Carle ($3.437m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Josh Harding ($1.000m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,610,605; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $789,395

Filppula+Kindl+2011 1st (24th)+2011 5th+2012 2nd for Carter+Carle Provides cap relief to philly and I think that there is similar value both ways. We NEED a center that shoots right. and Carle could provide lost offense from losing rafi. decent size at 6 feet tall. Then we trade Hudler for a 2nd or 3rd to gain back a pick.
-
rather have coburn than carle. the guy is 6-5". Would Kindl + 24th + next year 2nd do the trick? That allows them to offload about 2.4mil in cap.
-
Carter doesnt have a NMC.....
-
I'd be down to make that trade for Carter. He has Size, shoots Right, Center and is a big improvement on Flip. That being said, they may take Abby in this trade over flip due to greater cap relief if we sweeten the pot with a 2nd next year. Not to mention we just sign Wiz, and Pitkanen/Ehrhoff/Bieksa and our d is solid. Next year I'd love to go after Brent Burns as a UFA.
-
hmmm now you got me thinking. If we did sign richards, we would have the ability to trade flip, he's a higher end player that could be used in a package deal for bogosian, but is a worse version of richards. hudler can be used to gain a pick or two in the draft and get us some cap space. I still would like to see kenny try and get jeff carter off philly just cause hes a right handed center that would fit great on our second line.

Don't need him. Waste of cap. Not fair to overpay for him with dats making almost 2 mill less than he will fetch.

TRADE US BOGOSIAN

Paul MacLean interviews for Senators Job
dirtydangles replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I'd be down with Fischer, or Chelios replacing McCrimmon. If for some reason MacLean gets poached then I'd say we would have to look at Cameron of Boogeyman. Hitch would be a dream but it seems hes gotten a lot of interest from the devils. -
maybe suter. Burns will be RFA and the others are likely to sign long term this summer.... im tired of going veteran. lets ******* get bogosian already. make it happen kenny. now that this move has been made to winnipeg so soon, hopefully they will consider trading bogo.

another cleverly disguised blueadams line thread... I feel very low confidence for this season. Those question marks you have listed aren't easily filled, so I have serious doubts about the quality of players we will have for next season.
-
any of these guys right handed shots by any chance? also do you have stats on their height? guys above 6 feet would be preferred.
-
They need to dump more salary than just Coburn's 3.8mill (need around 5-6mill off the books to get bryz). They also will need to replace him coburn and they want to resign nodl and leino. so that means they need to dump a more high priced guy, even with the cap going up. carter is the logical option, briere is a right handed center so they won't miss carter that much.
-
The more youtube clips i watch of this guy the more i can't believe he's available. sure hes having a rough patch (and not that great for d), but seriously, can we please bring him in for under 3 mill? holy **** hes got dangles. Id love to see him with dats. i'd ask anyone who thinks hes not worth a try to watch his highlights on youtube. they are some special goals.
-
WANT. I think we can get him going with dats. He has too much talent. He is free. Do a one year trial. I really think this could work out. So what if he isn't a defensive specialist? We have a bunch of guys who do that (and sure, he needs to do some too), but this guy can score.

With Abby (plus picks and prospects) in a deal for Carter, as Philly needs to offload for 5.5mill capspace. Using Hudler to get a draft pick to replace one lost in the deal for Carter. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Nikolai Zherdev ($2.000m) Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Jussi Jokinen ($1.700m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.850m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($5.500m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Joni Pitkanen ($4.000m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / James Wisniewski ($4.000m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Josh Harding ($1.000m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,018,938; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $381,062

There's def some massive potential in Zherdev. Its a big risk but its a risk I want to take. He' be an improvement on Hudler who is small slow and a left shot (doesn't play a ton of d either). And he could be had for free. We could use huds to move up in the draft or as part of a package to try and land bogosian (people don't think it'll happen, but kenny HAS to bring in someone with potential and youth for the future, not a UFA band-aid).
-
the more i think about it, the more i want holland to try to land Carter. Philly has so much young talent and top end players, not to mention a but load of right handed shots. If they want to blow 5 mil on Bryz and keep leino and nodl around they will have to offload around 5.5mil. If they are looking for a cap dump we could offer Abdelkader (who is the gritty kind of player they would like and low cap hit) and a first round pick this year and a second rounder next season, prospect? (I have a hard time putting a value on picks) one thing is certain, they don't want an expensive player in return.

All things set aside in terms of the Carter trade, this team would be soooooo dope. and 2 mill to spare. Might have to put Pitkanen in for Bogosian due to trade bait going towards Carter, but people were suggesting that philly would want to pick up cap space anyways (not sure how many 1sts and prospects it would take)... Look at all those players with right handed shots (Carter, Eaves, Asham, Wisniewski, Bogosian)! That bottom line has the potential to be a sick grind line imo. and helm has earned a role as 3rd line center. The top two lines are devastating. It sucks that homer's contract had to be on the books this season; coulda been 3 mil left over instead of 2, and have Tatar up. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.000m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Arron Asham ($0.750m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($5.500m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / James Wisniewski ($4.000m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Zach Bogosian ($3.500m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Josh Harding ($1.000m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,381,438; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,018,562

Rip on me all you want for slotting Zherdev in, but he has potential (4th overall pick 2003), size, and scoring ability. Datsyuk could be a good influence on him to try to get him a little better on the d end. Not to mention he is a right shot that we desperately need. Not sure why nobody has considered Gagne yet. Could do a one year deal similar to what tampa did and see if things work out and replace next season when better players are available. He definitely has scoring ability. Make a trade for Bogosian (using huds, prospect, picks) as bogosian is young right shot that we need on d, and has potential. Pitkanen for maybe a 2 year deal to see how it goes, and if something comes up next year when lids retires (aka weber only signs a one year deal this year) then we aren't stuck with pitkanen around too long after, and smith with be chomping at the bit to get into the regular lineup. I have to agree that we aren't getting any RFA's through offer sheets. Parise, Weber, Doughty won't happen. I want one soooo bad and i still have hope, but theres no point in counting on it. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Nikolai Zherdev ($2.000m) Simon Gagne ($5.250m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.000m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($5.500m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Joni Pitkanen ($4.000m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Zach Bogosian ($3.500m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Josh Harding ($1.000m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,608,711; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $791,289 I'd love to mess around with a lineup with jeff carter in it for s***s. He would be IDEAL as he is a right handed center we need badly. Can't wait till sheahan and jarnkrok are ready to go in the distant future as they are potential 2 great right handed centers.

i like the idea of nabbing carter, but I just don't think that philly would let him go. he just signed that big contract last season I believe and I can see them letting other players go first. They probably won't resign leino, zherdev, o'donnell and maybe get picks for zherdev from someone. That will give them some wiggle room if they bring a couple cheap guys in.
