If Smith worked on his shot a bit more he would be lethal. He seems to get lots of opportunities on the rush as the trailing man but just doesn't find the net.

Why did they wait until now to do this? If conditioning was the only problem you would expect them to get that done right away after the preseason and get Weiss set up for success. Seems like they are just wondering what the hell to do with him and buying some more time.

Z and dats won't be reliable top centers after a few more seasons. They have too many durability questions. I could see both playing for a long time like selanne - high level but not carrying the team on their backs.

i don't see how babs putting fwds on the point is any more dangerous than smith. also even if that happened once or twice I'm sure smith would contribute more offence than the shorties we give up

thing is - today we need a scoring winger (we have some in the pipeline)- but in a couple years that is all we will have and we won't have top 6 centers.

Mantha and Franzen would be huge additions to this team. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Mantha Nyquist - Weiss - Franzen Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco Abby - Helm - Glendening If that lineup can't put the puck in the net then its something to do with Babcock.

Kindl is totally gone this year or this offseason. I think Ericsson and Quincey will have to go soon as well. Ouellet can't stay in GR next year it just can't happen and Marchenko/Backman/Sproul/Jensen will all be pushing next season too. I wonder if upgrading Kindl to Ericsson and downgrading Larkin to Pulkkinen would be enough in addition to a 2nd. Myers for Ericsson, Pulkkinen, 2nd. Then we waive Kindl and bring up Ouellet. Would you guys keep Quincey longer term considering his play? I wouldn't - I see that he has been reliable defensively but has been non-existant offensively. We need players that can put it together at both ends of the ice. He also needs to make way for a RH shot.

Of the young guys on the current roster: C - Nyquist (says all the right things, potential star, humble) A - Smith (vocal, friendly) A - Dekeyser (leads by example) Sheahan - I don't think Sheahan will ever wear a letter due to his past mistakes (I know he cleaned up big time but still) Tatar - a little too emotional and hot headed to wear a letter (you still need guys like this on the team) Abby - Not an important enough piece on the team Helm - same as abby
