Our young D don't seem to be handling the forecheck too well but part of that is they don't have great support out there. If Howie could handle the puck more like Fleury has we would look better on the breakout.

I got a feeling Backman is going to shine tonight. Kronwall-Smith DD-Marchenko Ouellet-Ericsson Lashoff Move Kindl, Quincey I'd be pumped with that for this year (even though it will never happen). I think we can afford to lose Ericsson at some point down the road and replace him with Sproul. Then make Backman a 7th D that rotates around with the other young dmen - and chances are that we won't have 7 healthy dman at once anyways.

Those D pairings are tantalizing... I'm really excited to see how the young guns perform.

I want almost every forward on our team to be "more like Yzerman." I just don't think asking Ovi to change is going to make it happen.

This isn't that surprising though considering when Mule pushes himself he is an absolute beast and can dominate any game. It just doesn't happen night in and night out.

He is extremely honest and realistic and doesn't give softball answers. He is very good at assessing his own game and where he is at and what he needs to work on which is a great sign because not all players know what they should work on and actually go out and do it.

in salary? I'm not sure how the taxes shake out but he must have made quite a bit on endorsements etc. And players like him often get pretty solid jobs after retiring either in broadcasting or within an organization. I doubt money is even on his mind at this point its got to be cup vs. body.

Glendening is very useful. He can be a 4th line RW - Abby - Helm - Glendening ORRRRRRR he can play C and shut down Crosby like he did last year. We should hang onto him.

Love to see Kindl/Lashoff and Cleary gone by game 1. I'd jump for joy. Quincey too but that ain't happening.

I completely agree that we should have been jumping on the opportunity to draft Russians (talented kids were falling into the second round quite regularly just due to KHL factor). We have a great history with Russians and we have Datsyuk for the next while and he is the perfect motivation for a Russian kid to pick the NHL over the KHL. I can't help but think that we have missed out on a good many years of Russian prospects sprinkled into our system that could have been something in Detroit.
