We need a premier dman. our scoring is fine. -
I wouldn't trade any of Nyquist/Tatar/Sheahan/Jurco right now - they have shown so much promise and NHL readiness already that we would be selling at an all-time low value because they haven't "produced for a full season in the NHL and are still prospects." If they continue to develop to Saad level they would be worth a hell of a lot more. I'd rather trade straight prospects like Pulks or Frk in addition to picks if anything. We do really need a top 4 defender to add to our D in place of Quincey - someone under 30 with a RH shot. I like Bogosian a lot - but I doubt Pulks+Ouellet/Kindl+1st is enough to get him and thats all we can really afford. I'm wary of Girardi only because he played with some really good Dmen in front of Lundqvist for so long - in addition to his hard nosed style that causes wear and tear he may become a bust here on a big UFA contract. Deke is a great player - and likely may one day become better than Kronner if he keeps developing - but he is in no way better than Kronner right now. Kronwall likely a 2D on most playoff teams and would be a 1D on most non-playoff teams - that puts him in the top 30 league wide.

What's wrong with Pasha? (Mod warning post #57)

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140125/SPORTS0103/301250048/Wings-waive-Mikael-Samuelsson-Johan-Franzen-close-returning What complicates the matter for Datsyuk further is the fact he is the captain for the Russian national team for the rapidly approaching Winter Olympics. The tournament is something Datsyuk has eagerly waited for. He insists he will not miss the Olympics. But they’re now a little more than two weeks away. “It would help if I play a few games before the Olympics, come back and (help) conditioning-wise and speedwise,” Datsyuk said. “I just have two weeks and we’re doing everything to help.” What busts my nuggets is that Datsyuk considers playing for the Wings before the olympics as a "conditioning" exercise in order to be ready for the olympics (which he insists on playing in even with the injury). Detroit really needs him too just as his country does but he is only contemplating playing injured for Russia. While I agree that he is injured - I just don't like that he will risk himself in Russia with this injury and potentially put himself out of Detroit longer as a result. I would hope that Detroit would be at least as important to him and not just a conditioning opportunity at this point. Maybe the language barrier makes this quote seem worse than what Datsyuk intended to say so I might be overreacting. -
I think the main thing people are bitter about is that he was such a high pick and never turned out. Sure - he is a guy who gives 100% out there but being selected that high kinda puts a target on your back. If he was a 6th rounder people would be applauding his achievement of cracking the roster to begin with.

Ya If it was a groin or muscle pull you wouldn't expect that he would be out a month (or at least played a few times here and there and re-aggregated it). From the sounds of things in the media updates he hasn't been close to a comeback and then had a setback either. If it was a foot/stress fracture I could believe that too. Not sure why they can't release the actual cause when it is clear he won't be back until its healed - this isn't the playoffs where you hide your injuries while playing injured.
-
I don't like that Datsyuk's plan is: to get in a few games before the olympics. When you put it like that it sounds like he just wants the couple games in Detroit for conditioning purposes for the olympics. It should be - Datsyuk is trying to hurry back to help detroit before the olympic break.

Jimmy was huge. Tough game for a guy getting so few shots. Neuvi can suck my D!!!!! He played crazy good and I am so glad he didn't stick it to us.
-
Nyquist and Sheahan are my new Wings favs. Gotta admit it.
-
My boy NYQUIST!
-
bulls***
-
Jesus sheahan is good
-
Can we just take a moment to admire at what a beast Sheahan is: 14 games 9 points, +2, 0 PIM. If he played the full season like this he could have won the Calder.
-
HAHAHAHAHA I'd laugh harder but I actually like the griffs.
-
OV is like "meh, ill score one later to make up for that - not worth back-checking."
-
I love it. There was that one shift where he could have challenged Q at the line but just floated around and watched from 1 foot away as a teammate does it.
-
No cleary? So many shots due to prolonged possession in the opponent's zone.

Hypothetical: What Coach Would You Replace Babcock With?
dirtydangles replied to cnot19's topic in General
Have there been any equivalents to "Pete Carroll" in the NHL? - a non traditional coach that laughs it up and is very friendly with the players? I think part of his success is the players want to play for him and like him as a human.
