Stewart was trying to f*** up glendening and kronner flattened him later that shift

Jurco and Sheahan are dynamite together. Creating stuff every shift
-
I'm guessing Helm will be injured in his 3rd game back.
-
This is far more realistic than before. The only change I see is that Jurco would be down in GR (not that I want him there - it is just Holland's behaviour). I think Alfie plays one more year and Jurco fills in for him in top 6 after next year when he retires. That leaves one slot open potentially for a Moulson type player in UFA or we keep Andersson (which is unpopular but likely). I also don't think we dump Kindl in favour of Almquist but who knows how they will sort out the back end. Holland hates to lose players.
-
Its also his dream to win a cup - and we are depleted and outside the playoffs. So...
-
I kinda get the feeling Alfie is taking it easy to be ready for the olympics - which is not what we are paying him for. Not getting hopes up.

Would you trade Jimmy for a top pairing dman?

I think we can close this thread. Howie has found his game. You can't have a top pairing dman out there 60min a game like you can a goaltender at the top of his game. -

Sheahan with a solid 19 mins tonight. Babs likes the kid. Helm who? If I was one of the injured guys I'd grab my job real fast with these young guns flying all over the place. -

Sheahan is an absolute beast. He can be a 2/3C with some more development. -

cleary needs to find a way to get that out... -
This would be over the cap limit for sure. With Moulson, Girardi coming as expensive UFA's and Wheeler coming in at a 5.6mill cap hit. Alfie wouldn't be any less than 5. Deke, Tatar get raises. Trading Smith for an aging UFA on the decline is not a good idea - Smith should be moved for someone of similar age that plays RHD if anything - Girardi plays the kind of game that doesn't age well and he is already showing it this season.

I saw a pretty interesting scenario over on HF and it was: Adam Larsson for B. Smith, T. Tatar, 1st 2014 I think this is more than fair value if not overpayment from the Wings. Larsson is the RH top pairing guy for the future we need and we don't NEED the 1st or Tatar in coming years with the prospect pool we currently have. If we could then sign one of Callahan, Vanek, Moulson to fill out the roster we could be very deep next year. CAPGEEK.COM ARMCHAIR GM ROSTER CapGeek Armchair GM Roster FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($7.500m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($5.500m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m) / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Ryan Callahan ($5.500m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Riley Sheahan ($0.900m) / Landon Ferraro ($0.800m) Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) / Luke Glendening ($0.800m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Adam Larsson ($2.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($4.250m) / Danny DeKeyser ($2.000m) Jakub Kindl ($2.400m) / Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) Adam Almquist ($0.800m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Evgeni Nabokov ($1.000m) BUYOUTS Carlo Colaiacovo ($0.000m) Jordin Tootoo ($0.000m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (estimations for 2014-15) SALARY CAP: $71,100,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,112,045; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $4,987,955 There is room to play with the cap hits a bit. I think Alfie plays one more year then we see Jurco in the top 6 full-time and after next season we see Ouellet + Sproul as our 3rd pairing replacing Kindl and Lashoff (giving us more RH balance on D). What do you guys think of that trade? It hurts to lose Smith and Tatar cause I love them but I think the team has more balance overall for years to come.

I posted in another thread that a lot of players seem to get injured stepping up into roles they are not accustomed to. Helm was trying to be a 2C, Andersson was trying to be a 2C, Ericsson a 2D, Dekeyser a 3D, Alfie is being leaned on heavily for offence, etc. I think due to some key losses though out the lineup it just compounds the problem. These guys aren't used to playing those minutes every night against harder competition. Other than that you have to question the medical staff a bit. Why are the same injuries happening (groins)? Have they changed their practices to avoid this? Can the wings invest some more time and money into conditioning and resources? Does babcock making practice optional result in more groin issues? I have no clue - but I would sure as hell start turning over stones if I was in the organization to figure this out.

The lions fan in me says - 13th? the way things are going we will get a pretty exciting present on draft day! The wings fan in me says - f*** that it ain't good enough I want to riot.

If I know anything about hockey - its that puck luck doesn't just happen - you create it through hard work and its infectious. Its not often you see a total s*** team getting beat everywhere on the ice and not hustling at all get puck luck. If we had just a little more jump in our step tonight it would have come for us but we didn't muster the collective energy to make it happen. Myself and I suspect the team included were feeling pretty sore about the last game and when things didn't go their way tonight they didn't rise above that feeling.
-
One nice thing about being injured is that Holland and Babs can directly compare guys like Jurco, Sheahan, Glendening, Nyquist, and Tatar to his beloved vets Cleary, Sammy, Bert, Quincey and see how worthless their play really is when these kids have eclipsed them in every way other than birth certificates. Without this - it would be far more likely these hot pieces of garbage would be re-signed this offseason instead of promoting a more talented youngster at a far lower cap hit.
-
Ah damn. Good game overall. That was a dog fight. I gotta hand it to the refs - they kept the flow going nicely - wish more games were officiated like that.
-
Sheahan has been in the top 3 skaters of every game he has played since being called up.
